There are lots of auto mechanics in SF to choose from but bottom line I'm not sure any of them can compare to Metric.
Here's the biggest reason I keep going back: FULL TRUST.
I mean you're really at the mercy of any shop w the necessary diagnosis and cost of repair, right?
Jose + Andrew are biblically honest, trustworthy, customer service focused and expertly knowledgeable. PLUS IT DOESN'T HURT THAT THEY'RE NICE PEOPLE WHO REALLT CARE!
Can't speak highly enough of Metric Motors.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 027 Jan 2021Previous reviewThis is hands down best auto repair shop in city.
Quality service, super fair pricing, owner trusted integrity and bar none the best customer service I've ever experienced.
Truth!1 Feb 2020Previous reviewPedigree of the shop is deeply Porsche obsessed + dedicated to the brand.
Recently sold but it's never been better.
Joel @ the desk keeps the customer service at a top notch level.
3rd Porsche and I've brought all of them to these guys. - Daniel W.San Francisco, United States425828 Jul 2024
I've been taking my BMW to them for years. Very reliable and a lot cheaper than a dealer. They are very easy to communicate with as well

These guys are great, taking care of two cars for me since 2019. Pictured is manager Jose standing beside my car, after giving me some free training in how to operate my car!

I was the one who got serviced. Have you ever picked up your car at the dealer and asked in frustration at your bill: "How much?? For what???"
Then my best friend recommended Metric Motors.
Metric Motors is a high-value, top-quality, totally chill upgrade from the usual nightmare of expensive, pointless, dealer service.
Metric Motors' Service Manager Joel Gile and his team of highly-qualified technicians take pride and pleasure in their work. They love German cars!
Transparent, end-to-end, friendly, and professional customer service. Less costly, and much better, than anything on offer at a high-overhead, branded dealership.
Just look at my happy car in the photo! Complete satisfaction. - Melissa V.San Francisco, United States273599823 Nov 2023
Jose and the team are honest, helpful mechanics. I was quoted over $900 to fix an engine sensor in my Volvo. The wait time was about 2 weeks. Metric Motors replaced the sensor with a Volvo factory piece for $300. Even better, the repair was done in one day.
I've brought my car back multiple times and always receive great service. Jose is always reachable by text and can usually get you in within a day or two. Highly highly recommend!Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - SF R.San Francisco, United States01417 Mar 2024
Our Audi A3 failed a smog check. We went to Metric Motors and Jose explained that we just needed to do a drive cycle since he had recently worked on our car and the engine codes were cleared/battery disconnected. He said once we did that, we could stop by and he would scan our car for free to make sure the car passed the smog retest. Jose is such a nice guy with excellent customer service. You can tell he is enthused about what he does. It's so nice to see someone who likes their job. He's very professional and takes the time to explain things thoroughly.
After completing a drive cycle, I went ahead to a smog check station, got our car retested and it passed. It's hard to find great service nowadays. Thank you Jose for taking the time to walk me through what I needed to do and offer moral support!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mikhail B.Berkeley, United States679 Mar 2024
I have been bringing my VW GTI to Metric Motors since around 2015. My first time bringing the car in was to get a second opinion after having received a quote for $8k+ at another shop in SF. While they agreed that everything listed in the quote COULD be done it didn't NEED to be done. Instead they took a considered approach to addressing priority issues. I have never felt taken, had, or that Metric had anything other than my best interests in mind. The owners have changed over the years but that culture of good, honest workmanship hasn't changed.
Recently my car broke down in the East Bay and needed to be towed to a shop. A friend recommended a mechanic in Berkeley that specializes in VWs but I didn't want to take any changes and had it towed straight to Metric. The work was done in less than 24h.
My car is getting old and will need replacing at some point. I hope that I get another VW so that I can continue having my car serviced at Metric.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ralph C.San Francisco, United States014530 Jan 2024
Our Audi A3 overheated, and our normal mechanic said the engine was ruined, head gaskets were melted, told us to just trade it in, I didn't have $60k laying around for a new car, so I just parked it back in my garage. A few months later I called around to a few garages but no one would touch it, they all said the same thing, trade it in and get rid of it.
Then I called Jose at Metric, he's the only mechanic who said "Bring it down, I'll take a look at it". When I went down to his garage he literally stopped working on the car he had in the bay, took a flashlight to my engine, told me it was only the water pump in about 30 seconds, and gave me a reasonable ballpark repair quote on the spot. I was kind of dumbfounded thinking it can't be this simple, but a day later he started working on the car, sent me video text updates with the work he was doing on it, and low and behold he fixed it, cleaned out the valves, checked all the fluids, did a nice oil change at my request, and, I can't believe it, but my car now runs like a top, no kidding, like a brand new car, oh my god I can't tell you how happy this has made my family.
Metric Motors is a great shop, I don't even want to talk about them because then they'll be swamped, but wow they really did a great job on my car and it's running perfectly now, I can even go on road trips with it, I'm so impressed I can't even begin to tell you.
Thank you Jose, Angelita at the front desk, and there was another mechanic there as well, thank you guys so much for the great work you did for us, we are so happy we found you!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 15 Sept 2023
I used to come here and the service was timely and fantastic. However, in the last two weeks I tried to schedule an appointment for an oil change. Left voicemails and even texted with absolutely no response. Supposedly changed ownership? Regardless, how hard is it to respond to someone. Simple yes or no to my request for the appointment should not take more than few seconds. Not coming here again.

Metric Motors changed ownership a couple of years ago as of Sep 2023. I've taken my Porsche Cayenne to Metric for 10 yrs+ with Andy, Joe & Joel being exceptional. Although, new owner, Jose, seems nice - I've had 2 nightmare services under his watch and the business is being run terribly...very sad. I've lost all confidence in basic yearly service checks, additional mechanical need to be completed and documented and I reported back to Jose my concerns and he still never got back to me! Can anyone suggest another great mechanic firm for Porsche, Audi's...?

Absolutely amazing customer service. I've been dealing with ongoing issues with my mini Cooper the last few months and was feeling extremely frustrated with other mechanics I had previously visited. Over a call with Jose and Angelina I felt like I was in trusted capable hands. They worked with me to find the best pricing available and even offered to have me ubered to work. Knowing how much money I had already spent on my vehicle they even offered to let me pay on a payment plan. Can not recommend enough especially with mini or other European cars! they know their shit and make you feel like an actual human being!
