When I search for "Dishwasher" "Appliances", "Appliance Stores", or "Appliance Warehouses" I get mostly repair places. There are only a couple stores that sell new appliances... and they're not reviewed highly.  I am looking to buy a dishwasher in San Francisco (or around).  Anyone know better search terms I should use?

I'd go with Sears and buy their extended warranty and hire them to install and take away the old unit.  Their warranty service is great and if the installers damage your property, Sears will pay to repair the damages.  I speak from experience after having had two sets of washer and dryer replace over the last decade.  I also had them replace my refrigerator and they came out and replaced the new one because I found scratches in the new one.

They offer good rebates and discounts, especially now that Veterans' Day is coming up, as is Thanksgiving.

fry's, best buy, sears, lowes, home depot if you are in and around the city or anywhere for that matter nowadays.
there is not much margin pushing appliances and they take up tons of floor space.
so the big box stores are becoming the only viable option...plus the delivery guys hate going into the city.

for high end stuff call a contractor to order...most all folks living in a city aren't competent diy'ers.

Gosh, there are a number of specific stores.  For chains you can try a department store, hardware store, a specialty store like Best Buy.  Some of the appliance-focused places include Floorcraft and Cherins.  You might also try kitchen specialty stores for dishwashers, particularly the customized finish / installed kind.  I have a several-year-old uncrated but never used Asko dishwasher if you're interested.  Real cheap if you don't mind moving it yourself.  We can plug it in and make sure it works.

BTW, usually google is your friend when the Yelp search bar doesn't work.  You can do a search like this:

Appliances -service -repair "san francisco" site:yelp.com

The minus sign means to exclude the word, but thanks to google's fuzzy searching it doesn't completely exclude the word (because most retail places do repair too).  But it's weak on trying to focus results in San Francisco, I haven't found a tight way to only get those results.  If Yelp would have a feature like google's minus sign, or some structured searching, that would help.   Sometimes you can look at your browser bar to see how Yelp actually deals with searches, and enter the search up there instead of Yelp's search bar.

I tried the same search in google maps and the results were also not too good.  That works sometimes though.

I spent about five minutes doing this before I gave up, which is about as long as it would take to go through every one of the 283 search results for appliances, and just use your brain to skip over the ones that are repair shops.  Sorry I can't help too much with the searching.

Thanks for the comments.  I also called a handyman friend who recommended Pacific Sales Appliances on Bryant.  We went there. They had a very knowledgeable salesman and a large selection.  The price for what we were looking at was a bit lower than the quick cell-phone Google search for an online low price.  We bought.

Pacific Sales in SF is not listed under "appliances".  It's under "Electronics" and "Home Services".I have filled out the suggested category addition (but I couldn't find "appliance", just "appliance and sales" under the sub-category of "local services".)

So far the experience has been excellent.  I'll write a review once the dishwasher is delivered and installed.
