I recently had the pleasure of encountering Eddie Brown, the security guard at 1 Hotel, and I must say, his exceptional service left a lasting impression on me. During a crucial meeting with a client at the hotel, I encountered an unexpected issue when a lady approached me, demanding that we lower my voice. Despite our efforts to conduct ourselves respectfully, her approach was rude and disrespectful.
Thankfully, Eddie swiftly intervened with professionalism and tact. Not only did he handle the situation with grace, but he also went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and satisfaction. Recognizing the injustice of the encounter, Eddie generously offered me a couple of complementary items as a gesture of goodwill. His kindness and understanding transformed what could have been a negative experience into a positive one.
Eddie's dedication to customer service and his commitment to resolving conflicts with diplomacy and empathy truly set him apart. His actions exemplify the values of hospitality and excellence that define the 1 Hotel experience. I am grateful for Eddie's assistance and commend him for his outstanding service. He is undoubtedly an asset to the team at 1 Hotel, and I look forward to returning knowing that I will be in good hands with professionals like Eddie Brown.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joseph L.Kansas City, MO2597Jun 28, 2024
ECO (friendly) DISASTER.
One star for the priceless views. One star for the night manager who was a saint. More on that in a minute.
Like most of you, I have a short attention span when it comes to reading yelp reviews, so please do yourself a favor and hear me out at least on the main issue which is the AC.
This is the last week of June 2024. NYC has been under a heat advisory, and temperatures routinely climbed into the mid 90s this week. Combined with the humidity, it is very unpleasant. I checked into my room at 450 pm. I had a dinner reservation at 530. What I immediately noticed was the temperature in my room which was 76 degrees. Not the burning sands of Hades, but unpleasant nonetheless. I adjusted the thermostat and noticed very little air flow. The room was stuffy like my attic.
I contacted management and they sent a guy to check it out. Fine I thought. Ill go to dinner and come back to a nice 68 degrees. For what it's worth, I cannot sleep comfortably at temperatures in the mid 70s. I come back from dinner and it's 72 degrees. I called again. And to his credit the technician came up.
He explained to me that the HVAC systems in the room are motion triggered. Meaning that if you are not in the room the AC shuts off. AND therein lies the problem! If you step out for any length of time the system shuts off. And when you return you start from square one. The airflow is so low, that it will take a very long time for the room to cool down again. This is part of their eco friendly schtick.
I got back to my room at 915 pm. I waited. And waited. Had a talk with the manager who was a woman. She told me to just give it more time. 1015 pm rolls around. Temperature has not budged one degree. That's the problem with their HVAC. Eco friendly is fine, but not to the expense of the guest who has paid hundreds of dollars per night to sleep in a stuffy and hot hotel room. There is nothing the staff can do about it.
By this point I had to get enough sleep to be back to work at 10 am the next day in Pennsylvania. I decided to leave and drive home. On my way down I met a woman who said she was moved into a different room because of the SAME issue with AC. Read the rest of the negative yelp reviews and you will see a pattern emerging.
The only saving grace was the night manager who gave me a full refund. He could tell by the look on my face that I had enough and was not enjoying my stay. If upper management is reading this, that guy is a keeper.
-----------------
The AC issue was the nail in the coffin. Ill share my thoughts on everything else. First of all this is not a five star not even a four star property. Trust me. These people can learn a few lessons from the Four Seasons.
To be honest my entire experience was infuriating the second I arrived. The hotel is on a narrow two way street and the valet area is almost always packed with random cars. This means you have to double park, and block one lane of traffic. At 5pm today they only had one guy working the valet stand. Consequently cars were piled up, and traffic was backing up. I saw an altercation between an Uber driver and a deliver truck driver. That's how bad it is. I waited almost 40 minutes trying to find a safe place to park while getting the attention of the valet who ultimately told me to leave my car double parked as traffic was honking and going past. Epic fail. Last thing I need is a truck to knock off my drivers side mirror.
Next, only one clerk at 5 pm- the most busiest time for check in. I'm waiting in line while still looking out the door to make sure my car doesn't get hit. Thankfully another clerk came.
The decor: the lobby was pretty nice at first glance, but the more you look, it becomes obvious that the wooden slat thing is overdone, and it permeates the entire hotel. Wood everywhere, even in the elevators. It reminded me of my dorm in college.
The room itself was fine. Linens were clean. Minibar was stocked. It looked like the management took the negative reviews of cleanliness to heart. But seriously it looked like my old dorm room. I think they were going to eco-chic but it's terribly overdone.
Harriet's: views are breathtaking. Drinks are overpriced at $25 each. They were okay, but nothing earth shattering. But this New York.
Despite these flaws, and there are many listed on yelp and TripAdvisor, nothing comes close to their egregious HVAC system. If you cannot get a good nights sleep because the room is too hot, why even bother staying here?
At 1030 pm, I enjoyed a two hour ride home at a comfortable 68 degrees in my car, and now I'm going to sleep in my own bed, in my nicely cooled room.
If you are considering staying here I would strongly encourage you to think otherwise. Especially in this terrible heat wave. If you must see the property, go to the rooftop bar, pay for an overpriced drink, and get a couple of selfies and be done with it. Just don't stay here.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Elizabeth C.Hingham, MA7491Feb 25, 2024
The room was dirty. The comforter (if you can call it that) had stains on it, as did the carpet. The sheets are not crisp white but gross off white/tan.
It is DARK with terrible lighting. One light only flickered. The cement floor had cracks filled with dirt. I had to ask to have the room cleaned and left $20.00 for the housekeeper. When we returned the money was gone and there were clean sheets (still folded) touching the dirty wheels of my luggage. I had to call two more times to finally get it done. When I first told the front desk the room was not clean upon check in, the young man became extremely defensive. It looks beautiful on the website. It is not worth the price.
It is worth noting that when the front desk sent the head of housekeeping, she did an amazing job. It looked properly cleaned, and she switched out all of the bedding (including brand new, different color comforters).Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Journee A.Copiague, NY261274Aug 12, 2024
Had a great experience at 1 Hotel Bk. The mood was set upon arrival with welcome drinks at the front desk. Our room was surreal and a great space as compared to other NYC hotels. We enjoyed the rooftop bar the most. Kyle was our waiter and I couldn't ask for experience! He took us through the wine list and recommended some dishes. He was so prompt and pleasant. This was my husband and I's first time at the hotel and it won't be our last. What a great place to have a "staycation" here in NY. Highly recommend!

-First Impression- Right as you enter the lobby, you get swept up in the relaxing aroma wafting through the hotel. Lavender mixed with something else, maybe? Couldn't quite put my finger on it.
-Food- All I ate was truffle fries by the pool, and of course they were delicious, lol. Also had brunch at the Osprey, will do a separate review on that!
-Service- Keyana was such a sweetheart at the rooftop! She made sure me and my friends were comfortable, well fed, and that our cups runneth over! Aquil helped us change our rooms (my friend booked it this way, please don't ask me why, lmao), had our luggage and belongings moved to the new room and found us on the rooftop to give us our new keys. Diego and Justin helped us with our bags during checkout. Literally everyone was so kind!
-Price- Definitely gonna cost a pretty penny, but you've gotta treat yourself every now and again!
-Did Not Like- The only thing that bothered me a little bit was water leaked out of the shower into the bathroom area. I just put some towels down to contain it and clean up afterwards.
-Noteworthy- The view from the rooftop is so gorgeous! Even if you go up there for only a few minutes, take it in! Also, not sure if it's all the rooms, but the two rooms we stayed in had filtered water fountains in them which I loved! Stay hydrated friends!!!
-Recommended?- Yes! Yes! Yes! 1000% This is my favorite hotel that I've ever stayed at! Can't wait to hit the rooftop again next summer!Helpful 6Thanks 1Love this 5Oh no 0 - May 27, 2024
Love this hotel and the surrounding area. Love the views. Some rooms have a hammock. So chill. The rooftop is a must see. Being your swim suit to enjoy a small rooftop pool. Dinner at the Osprey never disappoints. I always have a great experience. Love the luxury and eco-friendly vibes.

They had a vibe on the rooftop with pool access, which was DOPE.
My gang invited me to come out after being in the hospital. I had a really good time at rooftop, which, by the way the have an heated pool that tours the Brooklyn Bridge and other monumental things of NYC on the water.
Food is a1..the shoestring fries & sushi rolls with a Purple Haze just thank me later (2 glasses)
Kim was amazing, thank you, girl, for your amazing hostess, the most amazing smile.
Hit floor 10 on express elevator and have a good time!!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 7, 2023
This is definitely a beautiful boutique style hotel with a lot of plants and greenery throughout the hotel, it almost reminded me of the rainforest Café a little bit, the staff is somewhat friendly. They forget to tell you when you check in how to operate the elevator and also it is a bit. Pricey, Harriet's rooftop is situated on the top floor with great views, it's a very trendy bar I definitely recommend it , the question is, will I ever come back, I'm not sure

I Spend a lot of time in hotels throughout this country and the world. This is one of the most pretentious and overrate places I've ever stayed. They think they are something special when they're really not. hospitality is not a word here. They understand here. It's a byproduct of what they do, you're in the way of them getting money And no matter how much money you spend there problem and obstacle. This is one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed out of my entire life and I wish I would never be there ever again and I have Sweet here. B

One of my favorite stays in the city. Lobby is gorgeous. Great coffee shop downstairs (a little slow when it's busy, be warned). Rooms are industrial and beautiful with lots of green everywhere.
Took the ferry next door over to Manhattan.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0
