      There service team (and Angelica), are top tier. On several occasions I have had to call them for service. They are very responsive with suggestions to help with addressing the problem before coming out. When they do show up they are extremely professional and not only address the specific problem but also preform a general inspection of the whole engine and drive train. They have found several issues that could have had the potential of causing future problems as well as being very competent in dealing with the main issue.
      They are very capable in dealing with all aspects of marine propulsion.
      As the old saying goes "Don't bother with the rest, just hire the BEST"!

      I am just greatful that ZF referred me to Kurt and his crew. I have had issues ongoing with a Cummins QSB 5.9 and a ZF Gear, little things that it seemed like most boatyards just could not troubleshoot.


      The key here, is that I have not found many yards that have good strong marine mechanics that understand the gear and all the working of the motors when it comes to little issues that can become big ones.

      Initially, I had a shift problem, with the gear not going into reverse properly, and it was a hard shift after 120 min running, but not after say only 15-30 min...Talked to another yard out of my area that qued me into the potential problem, and then to ZF and at least I had an idea. Kurt and Tim really thought it was the Solonoid, and it would be a huge seatrial for recreating a 120 min run....Tim replaced the solonid and that took care of it, and now even the troll works better.

      Had another issue with confirming if the exhaust was steam from the waterlift or something else, I felt better safe than sorry, and Tim was his friendly usual self, looked at the entier situation, Checked the coolant system for pressure and felt it was where my exhaust was and the waterlift box .

      Different fee schedule than Cummins, and it works out to get someone that really understands the issues, and finds resolution. In the long run, it is just good to have a tech service that understands what they are doing, and then, Kurt and Tim are always so accomodating.

      I have worked closely with A1 for the past 3-4 years, and can say unequivocally that they are EXPERTS in their field and are driven to deliver high quality work. Their attention to detail is second to none and they focus on doing the right thing for their customers. They have always treated us and our customers right and have given us quality work, as quoted, within expected timeframes. I highly recommend them!

      Oil pan leak meant I had to pull the engine to replace the gasket. A1 agreed to do it in mid May. In late May took the boat to KKMI and the engine was pulled by A1 and taken to their shop. After excuse after excuse they finally said the engine was ready in late July. Then it took to mid August to install the engine and let me take it out for sea trial. Fixed minor things that day and I drove it back to Pillar Point slip. Next morning it wouldn't start. Four weeks later and many excuses until they finally finished fixing it.

      A job that should have taken a maximum of three weeks took four months! And they insulted me and yelled at me when I complained that this needed too get done. They said I should have known that their commercial customers came first. I said they shouldn't have taken the job if they had no intention of doing it properly.

      Very expensive ($25k) and low quality service.

      In May 2018 we bought a 1990 Hatteras yacht. Three months later both transmissions went out on it. After a extensive search and a recommendation from Hatteras we hired A1 Transmission & Marine LLC to do the repairs. Kurt and Bill have been working on our boat, they are both very nice and professional. Throughout the process of having the transmissions repaired Kurt has kept us informed and has explained everything that he does in a easy to understand way since we don't have a lot of boating repair experience. We would definitely recommend A1 Transmissions to anyone needing work done. We will be life long customers.

      Excellent service and a bunch of knowledgeable and good transmission mechanics. Used this shop for a ZF marine transmission. Kurt and Joey were excellent in resolving my issue. These guys really know what they are doing and stay on top of it until they resolve the problem. As a commercial fisherman in the Bay Area it is good to know there is a shop like this. I will definitely be using them from now on for service and any other marine needs. I highly recommend these guys for any marine transmission repair or service. Thanks Kurt and Joey. Great job!

      The staff here are very friendly. Kurt was able to help me diagnose my problem over the phone. Unfortunately the problem was not an easy fix and I had to take my equipment in to be serviced. I received regular updates as to the status of parts that had to be ordered from the manufacturer. I am very happy with the level of customer service I received. One of the techs, Manny was very nice and offered me a water when I was at the shop. I highly recommend A1 for thier technical competence and customer service.
