      Still serving massive, quality sushi.

+ Melted in the Mouth Roll ($18 for 8 pieces): filled with unagi and avocado and drenched in a more liquidy ponzu/unagi sauce. Definitely melt in your mouth! (8.8/10)

Arrived early for our reservation. Had to wait outside until 15 mins after we had made our reservation.

Wait staff ignored us for another 10 minutes after seating us. They then continued to ignore us another 10 mins after finally getting us menus. This place is small enough that the three servers should have had no problems.

They never brought our appetizers. We had them cancel the orders by the time we were ready to leave.

The sushi was ok at best. We ordered the omakase. The sushi rice was chewy as were a number of pieces of fish. The fish pieces are far too large. Nigiri should be bite sized. I appreciate generosity but I want to be able to fit the nigiri in my mouth, not awkwardly pick away at it. Sometimes you can't avoid a grisly piece amberjack, but there is no excuse for improperly cut chewy tuna or salmon.

The ambiance is ok. It feels a little cheap and grimy. The bathrooms were not a pleasant experience.

With the wealth of good sushi options in the Bay, Amami San Sushi is a big miss for me.

Seems like south city has an interesting downtown. First time hanging out in this area and already a few places I'd want to try

Came to Amami San for a birthday date suggested by a friend. Ordered the omakase which is 10 pc at $42.

Thr fish is plentiful and fresh, the wasabi is earthy with texture. I think it might be a blend of real Wasabi and paste? Either way it was good!

Also ordered the hamachi kama (they were out of salmon) which was moist and tasty.

Nice place for a casual dinner. A ton of good nigiri and rolls options too.

I've been frequenting this restaurant for years and it's never disappointed me! I hadn't been here in a while and visited recently to celebrate a buddy's birthday. He said "don't even look at the menu, let's all do Omakase, you won't regret it." And he was right! Every piece was delicious, and for $42 each, a good deal! This place gets very busy and parking can be challenging at times, they take reservations by phone.

I've been here 4 times now and each time have gotten the $42 omakase. What a great deal. They have 10 pieces of sushi and the cuts are very generous in size. I've always left full after. Their gyoza is also quite good. A little hidden gem in SSF

I think they sometimes chance some of the pieces tok. There used to be a scallop piece that has since been replaced with a seared lobster piece!

      Updated review

UPDATE: So I was coerced to trying Amami again. With the expectation that it would be better this time around, but it was the same as it was 6 yrs ago!

It's pretty loud and busy with many patrons who work in the area. The waitress was fast in taking our order and giving us tea.

CHIARSHI ~ my daughter and I both ordered this. Small slices of fish with rice underneath.

SASHIMI REGULAR ~ my sister ordered this. It's basically the same as the chiarshi but the rice is separate from the fish.

Fish was fresh, but you really don't get much. Only thing I liked was the fresh grated wasabi. The salad was bigger than the chiarshi I ordered. The miso soup was bland. Definitely doesn't taste the same when it's too diluted. You'd have to fill up on rice to be full.

I only agreed because I wasn't paying for this. Sorry, but I'd rather travel to San Mateo for sashimi/sushi. SSF doesn't have many Japanese restaurants and that is why it is busy here. If they had competition, they would have to offer more or lower their prices to keep up.

The waitress rushed us out by taking our dishes away as soon as we were done.

It was about $30/pp. Not worth it for lunch IMHO!

If you're looking for a bang for your buck for fresh sushi, this is the place to go. Amami's seating is on the smaller side, had to wait about 25 minutes to seat our party of 5 on a Monday night but it was totally worth it. The sushi came out fresh, especially their nigiri pieces on the $42 Omakase set is insane! Very generous portion sizes here. Toro and maguro pieces are thick and freshly cut. The chicken karaage and tempura were super crunchy (shrimp tempera was a little meh) Servers bring out complimentary hot tea during the meal and able to refill anytime. Sushi in the city can be expensive, but the quality of this place speaks for itself and is pretty affordable. It does get busy inside so service can be a bit caught up, however, servers are super friendly. They have lots of special on their menu whiteboard posted on the inside as well. 9.5/10 would go back again for sure!

Long time fan, first time reviewing. I've been here many times, often for dinner. This time I went with my sister in the afternoon and didn't realize we walked in 30 minutes before their closing. They still took us in which we were so grateful for, and never felt rushed. They were on break and still made sure we had full cups of hot tea.

      Ordered:
      - Chef Alan's Omakase Special
      - Lovers Boat
      - Agedashi Tofu
      - Chicken Karage

Overall everything was great, fresh and well seasoned! Great service and ambiance.

Craving sushi and paid Armami San Sushi a visit.

      Wait time:
Amami San Sushi is often bustling, but we lucked out with immediate seating on a Friday evening. Typically, they operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

      Food:
Opting for the $45 omakase, we were treated to 10 generously-sized and incredibly fresh sushi pieces. The quality far exceeded the price point, making it a fantastic value.

      Customer service:
The staff is quite busy, so don't hesitate to vocalize your needs. However, they're generally quick to respond and ensure a satisfactory experience overall.

My wife and I stopped in to get the sushi regular, which is usually the chef's choice and a California roll. Typical and most common cuts of nigiri like tuna, yellowtail, salmon, shrimp, etc.

We also got the 10 piece Omakase, which is also the chef's choice of their freshest and unique.

      Wonderful dinner as always.
