Great customer service , always a pleasure to do business here , If you're looking for a clean storage and 24 hour access I recommend American Storage .

Long story: I'm swapping out some furniture at my place which means I can either keep both old & new stuff and always be walking in between OR could go with the livable alternative of getting some storage! A friend already had a 8 x 20 unit so I went in with him.

Even though I'm coming from Oakland it's pretty convenient, has 24 hour access and open most days of the year. The security guard makes rounds so sometimes it takes him a minute to get to the gate but I'm happy to wait if it means he's watching out. Finally it's clean so I'm pretty comfortable going there.

Definitely worth a look!

So I rented a storage space here for over a year. I'm a contractor and store equipment at their facility. I moved out on the 28th of February and notified them that day. They charged me for an entire month anyways.

They are claiming that I needed to provide them a 7 day notice. I said that I did, on the 28th. They should then deduct the difference, correct? Well they claim no.

So unprofessional. Any business would do this, it's common sense as well as professional.

Renter beware......

The staff was helpful and helped me unload a heavy item into my unit. I always have an easy time getting in

Note that we really liked so much about American Storage. It's easy to get in and out of. It's spacious and well-marked. The office is staffed by Carmen who is lovely, always answers the phone, and overall is a great asset to American Storage.

We finally moved out as we had three major problems that are worth sharing, and which I would have wanted to know about when considering the unit:

1) In our first unit, the floor essentially caved in in the corner. We moved into a larger unit and thought we were set.
2) Our second unit was broken into. I have no idea how in a secure facility this would happen. We had over $5000 worth of technology stolen. American Storage was unfortunately not helpful nor did they accept any responsibility. Apparently, it was because we used our own lock thus our fault somehow. It turns out our area was one of the areas not covered by camera.
3) Not long after that we came in to find the roof had leaked and ruined quite a few of our items. Again, no responsibility, no reimbursement, no support at all.

We finally moved out at our own expense. American Storage ended up costing us a lot more than just the monthly rent.

We had two storage units at American Storage and most of our things were ruined by overwhelming rodent droppings, urine, and chewing. And if that wasn't bad enough, there was a hole in one unit, water came in an ruined a mattress and box springs that we had used for only a few months! We had no food nor anything else that would attract rodents. This is absolutely unacceptable! I wouldn't store even my garbage can in this filthy place! They deserve negative stars.

Absolute scam. They lock you in at a set rate and then a few months later will continuesly increase the amount you have to pay. Then when you ask them why your rate is increasing, they tell you that it fluctuates and there is nothing they can do. Avoid at all cost, literally.

This company made our move a total nightmare. An employee told us we could come until 6pm to rent a unit, and we timed our day around that schedule, but when we tried to rent a unit at 5:40 -- a big truck full of all our possessions in tow -- the person in charge told us they stopped making rentals for the day at 5:30 and we'd have to come back the next morning. That was a huge problem for so many reasons: 1) Our truck was due that night and we'd be charged late fees for keeping it another day. 2) We had no idea where to legally to park a large truck in a new city. 3) Our belongings weren't safe the truck unattended (the truck came with a lock but a wire-cutter would have made short work of it).

When I expressed my concerns the the person in charge, he had the gall to suggest we sleep in our truck on the street to guard our stuff from theft. I could hardly believe that this was their solution.

I can think of many considerate ways to address the needs of a customer who had been put in such a position: offer to park the truck in their facility overnight, reimburse us for our truck late fees, or just rent us a unit before 6pm as previously agreed --- but this company resolutely refused to help us. We took our business elsewhere, finishing our move hours later than should have been necessary.

A bullet point review is in order, since I can't get too artsy reviewing a storage space...

-friendly/helpful staff with an awesome hot sauce collection and an even more awesome cat (see picture)
-clean facilities
-easy access
-good location (compared to other facilities far outside the city)
-good deals for your first 6 months

Oh My God! These guys are great! I can be so amazed at a company that has its customers as its primary concern.

They use large shipping containers that are split up into storage bins with good, strong roll-up doors on the front of each. The area is clean and well organized. When you come in to the office you'll find the staff helpful and on top of their job. John is incredible and really uses his heart to help all he can.

I used to use Public Storage at Mission and South Van Ness. I had a 10x10 and paid $310 per month. I have the same size here at American Storage and I pay $175!!!! Holy Crap Batman!!! Public Storage is only open during the day, but American Storage is open 24/7!!!! Any time you need them, they are there.

The only negative that I have is that there are no lights and no electricity for plugs anywhere near the lockers.

Now this place is a little out of the way, but obviously well worth the trip. At the end of Caesar Chavez go one block past 3rd Street and make a right. Go to the light and make a left and you'll see American Storage on the right, across from the grain elevators.

I highly recommend this place and hope many of you take your business to them. I can't say too many good things about them.
