    About the Business

Angry Fish Sushi's chefs dazzle taste buds with a variety of artfully plated sashimi, nigiri, and maki rolls, including several deep-fried options. The popular Lion King roll wraps a traditional California roll in baked salmon, and the Angry Fish roll combines shrimp tempura with a spicy sauce. The chefs also take suggestions from diners and whip up custom hand-roll creations. In addition to sushi, the chefs serve up fresh oysters that can be topped with a quail egg, uni, and tobiko.

We arrived at around 6:20pm on a Saturday night. It was super busy. We weren't aware there were table reservations online (HIGHLY RECOMMEND), we waited for 1+ hour for a table of 5.
When it was our turn, (7:30pm by now) waiter told us he would be more than happy to still do happy hour pricing for us :) and even gave us complimentary ice cream at the end! Service was amazing to makeup for the wait.
Sashimi appetizer: amazing, super fresh and the thickness of the cuts were perfect.
Mango passion: I was expecting more mango, not a fan of the sauce but the fish was fresh.
Spicy mango: delicious too, but also expected more mango.
A5 Wagyu & ribeye: amazing and delicious! Also cheaper than other sushi places we've been to.
Hotate uni carpaccio: these were sooo good, had some uni on top. There were quite a lot of flavors going on tho so I couldn't really taste the flavor of the scallop.
      Angry bomb: pretty classic
Oysters: delicious! Unsure what type of oysters but they were amazing and tasted fresh.

The ice creams were super delicious and a pretty big serving as it was complimentary!

Would come back again with reservations!!

A San Leandro mom and pop sushi restaurant known for quality fish and great customer service.
It is a culinary experience, a journey if you will. As you navigate through the beautiful presentation of fish, shrimp, and oysters your taste buds will thank you.

Mystery Box and Omakase box are awesome choices. Customer service is A1! Place is small but well kept and clean! The setting is very inviting. I will be a repeat customer and support this business.

Ever since staying around the East bay area more, my husband and I have been craving for a sushi place with not only a variety of sushi roll selections but fresh fish! We came here on a Wednesday afternoon (early dinner) and we were seated immediately! The establishment is in a large building but looks like the restaurant only takes up a portion of it. Nonetheless, the seating area is quite spacious inside!

For our dinner, we had only ordered two miso soups and two rolls! Miso soup was as expected - hot with tofu and seaweed so nothing extraordinary there. For the rolls, we had ordered both the "Sex in the City" and the "Angry Mermaid."

Both rolls had a generous amount of rice, toppings and thick fish slices - the flavors were combined well with the sauces too. We had finished our rolls rather satisfied and full! Most sushi places, we find ourselves needing to order additional rolls or filling appetizers but they were not stingy on the roll fillings and the fish.

Service was very attentive and quick! The food here is definitely a good spot in Hayward/San Leandro to get your sushi fix! We will visit whenever we are in East Bay craving good sushi.

Since coming here the first few times, we've started ordering other items such as sushi roll, happy hour specials, bento boxes, etc. The food is enjoyable and definitely gives me my sushi fix.

Tonight, we had curry katsu chicken. It was crispy and very tender. The curry had a good thickness. It didn't have any carrots or potatoes like some place have 'em.

Fairytale roll had scallop on the outside, salmon and avocado on the inside. I enjoy a good scallop roll. It wasn't too saucey and was light.

Butterfly roll had seared hamachi on the outside, shrimp tempura and avocado on the inside. I like the garlic flavor and green onions with the sauces. I didn't really taste the truffle powder, but it was still delicious.

Super white roll is escolar had imitation crab meat and green onion. Super simple, quite light. It was tasty. Fun fact, escolar aka butterfish, aka can be a laxative if eaten ONLY by itself...when eaten a small amount and other foods it's fine.

Service was good. Very attentive and friendly.
Overall, a good dinner and left happy and full.

We came here mid afternoon (around 3:30 pm) on a Sunday. The interior was clean and we were invited to sit at any table. The server was very attentive, friendly and helpful so 5/5 for service! Menus were on iPads which was interesting to me, there is no public WiFi available which is okay but just thought I would note that because I did ask. The server let us order off the happy hour menu about 15 minutes before happy hour actually started (I believe it's 4-6 pm) so my husband ordered a beer off of that menu.

The food was good, most of the fish was delicious, tasted fresh and melted in your mouth, but there was one (the lighter fish I'm not sure what it is) that was tough, a bit stringy and not quite as pleasant to eat - that was my only gripe. The roll was good, basic with some shrimp on top but definitely not as good as the rest of the platter. The remix was $60 and I think would've been more worth it if it didn't have the stringy fish, but still not bad. We were full after sharing the remix and would consider coming back if in the area.

Quality/Quantity - Got here for Happy Hour again. Thanks for having 7 days a week HH.
HH Japanese Spring Rolls (4pcs) - Was not as good as the first time...? Still good, but we felt the first visit was larger and fresher.
HH Japanese Taco (2 pcs) - Still my wife's favorite.

Suzuki, Japanese Sea Bass - Two orders, we have been on a HUGE sea bass journey recently, but unfortunately, this did not meet our needs. And my wife had a bone in hers.
Dry Aged Rib Eye - I would have preferred medium raw, and a thinner slice of meat. My daughter was the smarter of the two and only ate half at a time. I put mine entirely in my mouth at one time and the beef was a little hard to chew...
FairyTale - The favorite order for all; my daughter picked this one.
Angry Fish - Our least favorite, But we always try to get the signature items/the name of the business.
Green Dragon - This was huge and good. Off of the Super Size roll menu. Always good to get a roll off of this menu.

HH Sapporo - Light and refreshing. I prefer stronger and more flavorful beers, but when eating Japanese... They overcharged me $1, but corrected right away when I brought it to their attention.

Cut and pasted from my previous review, yet still forgot to order.
Note to self for next visit - Rockin Crawfish, King of Jungle on Fire.

Also available - Specials, daily specials (see website), omakase, lunch or dinner menus, entrees, udon/soba noodles, "boats"/angry fish remix, appetizers, desserts, and sake. They have so many "specials!"

Atmosphere - Liked the exterior and interior decor.
Table sitting, got the exact same table as last time. Not sure if they have outdoor seating when the weather permits...? They sure have the space for it. See pictures.
Just discovered a hidden/narrow private dining room, see picture.
Clean and nice decor bathroom, see pictures.
Open 6 days a week from 11am to 9pm or 9:30pm; closed Tuesdays. Yelp's & their website's hours differ slightly. Probably due to the last call.
Private parking lot in back, another reason I will be a regular customer. I like the convenience. Just noticed the "Lock your car & never leave valuables" sign, so be safe.

Service - 6 stars, just like last time. The team ALL made sure we were taken care of. It was amazing to see how often each team member visits you to see if you need anything else. They were all very accommodating. It is good to see the entire team working together and supporting each other. They probably pool their tips...? See below.

iPad or QR code for menu.

Price - $100 + generous tip. Interesting, no mandatory 15% "service charge" now...?

Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2013! Why and how did it take me 11 years to discover you!?!?

Took my parents here for their first visit for a late Father's Day dinner, and the experience exceeded our expectations! The menu is extensive, with a wide range of options from cooked dishes to raw, constantly updated with new items. Even if you're not a sushi lover, you'll find plenty to choose from. The service staff was attentive and accommodating, and despite a busy night, our food arrived quickly, which was fantastic. The fish was expertly cut and of top-notch quality--they definitely don't skimp on portions. You'll leave feeling completely full and satisfied! Angry Fish is truly a hidden gem in the quaint little town of San Leandro. You must stop by if you are in the area!! ;)

This isn't a place that you are going to eat and talk and take your time.

So ok now that we got that done.
Ok the parking is tuff but there IS parking in the back. It is a popular place and small so it's an eat and go place. Have your order ready to go, because they are busy. You walk in and write your name on the list and wait outside. Once called you are seated given an iPad menu and you start to order ASAP. I ordered a chicken teriyaki and tempura plate. I also ordered a "Mclovin" sushi roll due to the name, that it has spicy tuna, and HOT CHEETOS! I know right? I had to try it. The chicken teriyaki plate was great! Tempura perfectly crispy. Rice was sticky and great too. The Mclovin roll was good but, I forget that hot Cheetos are a powerful taste so I didn't get to taste the other great ingredients in the roll. We will definitely come back!
