Avo House

Avo House has a delightful selection of sushi and other Japanese treats. The fish is fresh, and the rolls are creative. The Bento box lunch combination is a great deal, combining your choice of main (mine was sashimi plus a dynamite roll) with soup, salad, and side dish of your choice, which can even include tempura! I love that hot green tea is served as soon as you sit down. Service is friendly.

Delish, fresh sushi!!! Seated us immediately and service was a solid 4 of 5. Presentation was beautiful. They take time on each plate to make it beautiful. We will be back.

OK sushi spot downtown on Robson St. Plenty of seating and we did not have to wait to get a table for dinner. We ordered quickly and waited a little bit to get our special rolls.
- Negitoro roll - great, tasted fresh. Green onions were also chopped in finely.
- Pacific roll - larger than I expected. 10 pieces underneath all the tempura bits. Came with a decent side salad.
- Caterpillar roll - my friend ordered this. She enjoyed it but the green sauce was wasabi based, so it was a lot of wasabi flavor.

At the end of the meal, the staff member was clearing the table and accidentally spilled soy sauce on my friends sweater. Although they were apologetic, I am hesitant to come back again.

Nice sushi spot further down Robson Street. The place is clean, simple and spacious. The staff are friendly and efficient.

We got a few dishes that were different than other places, at least with their names. We got the Fantastic roll, Canadian Dream salad and spicy Volcano roll. Okay, other places have volcano but it looked.

The volcano roll was so tasty, probably one of the better ones I've had. The tempura flakes went well with the spicy tuna and the torched salmon gave it a nice smoky flavor. We would definitely recommend this dish and we will order it again

The salad was good as it came with tuna tataki and real crab meat. Wish there was a little more tuna tataki as ours came with 3 pieces. Hoped at least 4 pieces. The dressing had a good tangy flavor, a bit different than other places.

The fantastic roll was good too with the ebi on top and the mango sauce. It has real crab meat, not imitation one so that's why it was good.

Overall a great sushi place.

I almost didn't write a review for Avo House because I don't want to have to wait long for my order but this place is fantastic and I can't recommend it more!

Props to a place that has so many vegetarian options including a tofu roll! The places is so cute and surprisingly big. They have an open kitchen to watch the chef do their magic. Service was also impeccable. The place was super clean and cozy.

I started with the Spinach Gomae, Veggie Sunomono, Tofu Roll, and the Yam Roll. The Gomae was HUGE. It was enough for 2 and the sauce perfectly coated the spinach. The Sunomono was bright and full of vegies (including beets, carrots, cucumber, and lemon). The noodles were a bit hard but softened when mixed. The Tofu Roll came with unagi sauce and slightly warm tofu (perfect to me). The Yam Roll was warm and huge pieces of delicious yam.

I am seriously considering going back now! It's my go to sushi place now!

The food is decent but the server spilled soy sauce on my white sweater. Having worked in hospitality I expected a discount on food, an offering to pay for dry-cleaning, I don't know...something. I was not able to get the stain out of the sweater. Not my favorite experience and won't be back.

Avo House Japanese Cuisine serves up fresh and creative dishes in their restaurant. They are a "must try" for anyone who's a lover of sushi!

Everything was fresh and flavourful. My favourite was the Crunch Roll. It truly lived up to its name as I could hear it go "crunch" in my mouth!

Original Pizza didn't actually look like a pizza. It was deep fried rice with food piled on top of it, and like a pizza, it was portioned into pieces which one could hold with their hand. That's where the resemblance to a pizza ends. There was no round circle divided into triangular slices, or even a rectangular shape divided into square slices. It was delicious and considering how full I was beginning to feel, I was thankful that the Original Pizza wasn't any larger. However, to call it a pizza...that just didn't feel right to me. "Sushi Bites" or "Sushi Canapes" might be more appropriate.

I'd rate this place as 4.5 stars if such an option were available, but since it's not I'm going with 4 stars.

My partner and I came here for dinner this past week. Overall, I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars. The food was tasty, though a bit on the pricey side compared to other sushi places we frequent - we shared a few rolls between us and dinner was close to $80 for everything, including tax and tip.

When we sat down, the restaurant gave us a complimentary salmon auburi dish, which was a nice touch. The dragon roll was definitely the standout dish for us- the flavours were amazing and it was our favourite of the bunch.

The staff were very accommodating of my peanut allergy. They took extra care to make sure my food was safe to eat, which I really appreciated! All in all, the food and service were good and we had a nice time.

Lives up to the hype! Yesterday was a were hanging out in Los Angeles wondering where we would grab a bite to eat in Vancouver and thanks to the great reviews, here we are!

The menu is varied and does cater to vegetarians and/or vegans as well!

The hostesses and sushi chefs were friendly, welcoming and inviting.

We had the Hamachi, Toro and Fantastic Roll. All were superbly presented in beautiful fashion and fresh tasting.

Tried this place while in town last weekend and this was decent sushi. It's a bit pricier for full rolls, while the smaller maki are reasonably priced. Still, the quality of everything was good. I had the maki combo and a full avocado roll. On a couple occasions, I heard a grunt from the kitchen, looked up and one of the chefs was giving me the Master Tetsu from Ninja Turtles glare . I had been eating quietly and had no idea, so I just kept to my own business and kept eating. However, when I left, he was very friendly and said thank you . So who knows, maybe that's just his thing. Waitstaff were super nice and attentive. Overall, decent sushi here, and they don't get as much attention not being in the heart of the West End's Ramen Row, but it's a solid spot to eat some good sushi.
