You won't regret coming here to let your kid/s play! This is a brand new play space, with plenty to do and experience. As beautifully described in the first couple of reviews here, 5 ecology areas are on display, with so many cool things to do that will overwhelm your child at first. My daughter (5 years old) particularly loved the elevated structure (with water sprinklers at the bottom). Slides are cool but will get hot quickly after sun exposure. Afternoons are beyond busy, so try to aim for a morning visit. There's also a "theatre" in the back, where kids can do some dramatic play. An horizontal climbing wall (age 5-12) is also available, although I doubt that even 12-year old kids can finish it. Water fountains are available, but you will be craving for shades seats (if you can find any)... most trees are young and on hot days you'll be roasting (bring a hat and plenty of sunscreen).
Overall, it's really a great space to let you child roam free and enjoy exploring... a true destination playground worth visiting even by itself. We came in the afternoon after a morning visit of Governors Island.Helpful 4Thanks 3Love this 7Oh no 0 - Jul 27, 2022First to Review
We were heading to the ferry for Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island when we walked by this park. My kids scoped it out right away. It's hard not to notice this cool modern park. If I were a kid, I'd want to play here too!!!
The park is new and opened in Dec 2021. I love everything about this park. They had me at the modern design! Plenty of seating for parents to sit and play on their phones while the kids play in the park. Haha. Absolutely beautiful park. If you get a chance to take your kids here, do it.
Phenomenal park with cool and modern play areas focused on five ecology zones. The granite slides were definitely a favorite among the kids. The big slide was super popular and all the kids lined up for that one. Be careful kids as that is super fast and I saw several kids slide their butts straight onto the floor!!! Ha.
"Battery Playscape was designed post Storm Sandy and is built to flood and recover. It fosters environmental and cultural awareness through innovative contemporary design driven by sustainable and water-conscious features.
Children experience five ecology zones: Bluff with five granite slides; Riverbed and Marsh with vast salt-tolerant gardens, elevated tree houses, and sand/water play; and Dune and Meadow presenting ShowBox, the first improv/puppet theater in a NYC playground. Playscape's biodiversity will become an exemplar for flood zone landscapes across the globe."Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Apr 3, 2023
This is a destination playground. If you are in NYC, this is worth going out of your way for if you have young kids. Fully enclosed with lots of different areas, your kids will be SO happy here. Even in non-water season, there are tons of play spaces. Our kids were 6 and 8, but younger would definitely enjoy as would older -- I would guess 10-12 is probably the upper limit. In good weather there are vendors with fruit and food, and the carousel and Statue of Liberty view are right here.

Pretty cool playground. The water & sand area is a little funky. Wish it wasn't like a mini lake. Tiny kids in diapers and parents whisking them out after realizing they needed a diaper change. The slides are fun.
