I am so grateful that we connected with Michael and Bay Area Appliance Repair. Super fast to respond, fast to fix, knowledgeable, and helpful!
Our gas oven was no longer igniting. Michael responded to request for service with a very prompt call, and worked with me to find a time to address the problem. He clearly explained his pricing and accurately estimated the work involved. He already had the replacement parts needed in his truck and offered different pricing options based on our expected needs. After the over was fixed, he also improved the workings of all the stove burners. Afterward, he briefly took a look at our other appliances and recommended some maintenance procedures we could follow to help extend their lifespan.
I would recommend Michael to anyone who needs help with home appliance repair.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Hank Q.San Francisco, CA061Mar 11, 2024
Micheal is amazing!!! I can't recommend him enough. Had a great experience with him and will use him for any applicant repair we need. He really treated my house and the repair like it was his own.
I have a 12+ year old dryer I inherited with the house. It's a 7 cuft dryer with a short 25" depth in a little closet. They don't make this dryer anymore, the only ones with 25" depth are the small 4 cuft stackable ones, so it was my preference to repair this one when it broke.
It slowly stopped drying on some of the settings so I called Micheal based on his positive Yelp reviews, and I was not disappointment! He came out and identified the timer as the issue. At that time he told me I had a commercial style dryer with parts that were meant to be replaced. He suggested using the other settings for now and when the heating element went out calling him back. A couple months later the timer totally stopped working, he came out again to trouble shoot again at no cost and I asked him to replace all the guts of the dryer- timer, heating element, thermostat, fuses, and suspension system. He was back in a week with all the parts, completed the repair and the dryer works great and is even quieter than when we moved in. The cost was less than was quoted too.
His prices are more than reasonable especially in today's economy when a burrito is almost $20. He was prompt, polite, super knowledgeable, friendly and advised on repairs he thought were needed and what he thought wasn't worth it. He could have sold me on a timer just to come back later and double his labor, but he didn't. I had some other issues with the heating element of my old electric stove too, I asked if he could fix it, and he said he could, but he also said it was a super easy fix with an inexpensive part and he showed me how to do it and even pulled the part number for me.
I can't say enough positive things about Micheal. If you need an appliance repair just come here, he's awesome.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nina M.Oakland, CA1182Aug 19, 2024
Very knowledgeable, honest, and straightforward. Michael gives great advice even when it means not using his services. I highly recommend.

I had a very off-putting and concerning interaction with Michael, and overall would like to caution again women or other gender non-confirming folks using this business (unless you have a man making the calls or handling communication!).
I booked an estimate for my broker dryer with Bay Area Appliance Repair, as well as with another company. After the first company finished and let me know they couldn't service my dryer because they would not be able to get the needed parts, I called Bay Area Appliance Repair to give them a heads up. My intention was to let Michael know what I had learned from the other technician, to see if he had additional insight into parts he might have access to prior to coming out, or to see if he still thought it was worthwhile to check it out. I was happy to keep the appointment and pay the estimate fee if he advised that he should look at it to make a recommendation.
However, as soon as I let Michael know that I had another technician look at it, his tone completely changed. He said "if they can't get it, neither can we" (without asking further questions about the part). And the proceeded to say "in the future, don't ever double book appointments. It's a waste of our time and burns an hour we could have used on another customer". He kept going about what I should and shouldn't do, while I barely responded.
He tone was condescending and aggressive, which echoes some comments I see in other reviews. I was very put off because scheduling multiple estimates is generally accepted best practices, which all technicians are aware of. I am certain that he would not have used that dismissive and aggressive tone with me if I was a man, and likely would have asked more questions. It would have been very unnerving to have him speaking like that to me in my home, where I likely would have been alone. As a caution to woman or other gender-nonconforming folks - this is not a business I would recommend when it comes to safety or communication, and I would not recommend being along with Michael if you do choose to book with him.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Connie C.Pleasanton, CA015Jul 2, 2024

Fast, reliable, and quality service. I had a dryer that the belt broke. Michael came and took care of it and also gave me some tips on how to care for my other appliances so they last longer and work more efficiently. Would highly recommend to anyone needing their appliances repaired.

My four year old Bosch dishwasher broke down a week before a big b'day party for my wife. I called BAAR and I couldn't be happier. Michael was fantastic. He came the next day, right at the start of the two-hour window he had promised. He was totally professional and extremely knowledgable. He diagnosed the problem, which was complicated, and returned the next day with all the necessary parts and did the repair. In addition, he showed me some basic maintenance tips to extend the life of my other appliances: fridge, washer and dryer. Finally, he fixed a loose pull handle on my freezer for no additional charge. I am now a customer for life and will recommend Michael and BAAR to all.

I had the best experience today with Michael. It is never convenient to suddenly need an appliance repair, and that's what happened. I discovered a leak in my Speed Queen top-load washer, made a few phone calls and found Michael.
I'm so glad I did. He's simply the nicest person you could ever hope to meet; friendly, professional, knowledgable and patient. He was familiar with exactly my problem and fit me in around noon, which I thought was amazing. He easily fixed it (was sediment in the valves, not my Speed Queen). Great prices too, extremely fair.
I used Galvin Appliance for decades, really miss them, and didn't have anyone new since they closed last summer. Now I do - most highly recommended!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John M.Oakland, CA08Jul 16, 2024
Michael is knowledgeable, friendly and full of free advice and honest answers. He not only fixed my dryer, but gave me maintenance tips on all my appliances. Super helpful and low key genius!

I can't say or write enough accolades for Mike at BAAR! He's highly knowledgeable, professional, respectful and his business practices are above board ethical! We purchased a new front load dryer from Airport Appliance that I *thought* was an out of crate failure. I simply hated the machine, but got so busy w/ life that I simply tolerated the dryer. Fast forward another year (when there was no warranty), I reached my wits end. No matter which setting I selected (auto, manual or timed) it would take entirely too long to dry anything. Mike diagnosed the problem *over the phone* and told us the outside vent was clogged. No need for a truck roll. My dryer is incredible and fully functional- probably for the first time since it was professionally installed. I've also discovered tennis ball infusion & essential oils and ditched the dryer sheets and fabric softeners.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 31, 2023Previous reviewMike w/ BAAR is simply the best! He called 30 minutes before arriving, and he was *on time*. He came out to look at a dryer that I knew was on its last leg. After the assessment, he could have repaired it, but he knew the repair wouldn't last and wouldn't be in our best financial interest-long term. So, he recommended replacing the dryer. Mike's business ethics and practice with us have been impeccable! He's honest and trustworthy and completely knowledgeable about appliance functionality and repair. Mike is our #1 go-to repairman for all household appliances -including our rental units! I highly recommend his company and services!
Nov 5, 2018Previous reviewOK- Bay Area -East Bay.. we need to support this business! Michael was amazing. He was available within 3 hours, called while he was on his way, put on paper boots before he came into the home, and assessed and provided his recommendation for a 10 yr. old GE Front Load washer. Based upon his recommendation, we are purchasing a new washer. He said he could repair it, but with labor and parts it would still need replacing within another year, as the sensors were going out. After 2 missed Sears appointments and another local repairman that wanted me to video the machine as it was spinning, I was desperate to receive any type diagnostics. BAAR was fairly priced and ultra professional from start to finish.... Keep up the great customer service and professional business model!
