Excellent place to pick up free wood chips for your garden. Friendly service. I've been going here for years and highly recommend it
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 22, 2009Previous reviewAnyone can take as much wood chips or wood mulch as they wish for their garden. Perfect! The guys there are always helpful. (They also offer a drop off for most types of wood which is ground up but I never use that service.) Bring your own shovel and containers. Tough to find so make sure that you know where you are headed. They usually don't have a sign out.

My overdue feedback.
Thanks Sanjay for your expertise and speedy delivery! Your driver was very punctual, and your recommended 20 yards of organic soil was spot on for my backyard. The mulch is great holding in the moisture for all my plants, trees, and roses.
Will update the new pictures once I build out more planter boxes.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Anita J.Rohnert Park, CA0102Aug 28, 2023
STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS!! The "bookkeeper" doesn't know what she's doing! We've gotten bogus invoices twice now for dates we were not even in SF! They'll send you an invoice from 3 years ago saying you didn't pay it and tell you it's up to you to prove you did pay even if you weren't there!!! Then if you don't comply they take you to small claims court for $300!! They are VERY SHADY! Now we have no choice but to pay as we won't be in the state on the court date and it would cost us more to go to court and lose a days work than to pay the $300! So this is basically a shakedown to take money from you! BEWARE

Hi Anita,
I do apologize for any inconvenience that these past due invoices has caused you. I understand your viewpoints but we have 2 signed unpaid invoices from Shawn himself so my bookkeeper sends them out for our customers to pay monthly. I've known your husband Shawn, the owner of Timberwood Tree Service, for over 15 years and we had a similar incident in 2014 where $2k worth of invoices accumulated where we had to go to court and won judgement against Timberwood Tree Service then but we were able to discuss the matter and work things out and start over our business friendship.
Please have Shawn contact me so we can discuss the matter and work things out in a calm matter and clarify the misunderstanding.
Thank you

Some of the best things in life are free. That includes compost and mulch! Plenty of that for you here at Bayview Greenwaste!
Bring a shovel and trash bag, and anything in the mounds in the back (compost and mulch) is free for grabs as long as you do the work to shovel it in yourself. If you're lazy, you can pay a fee for them to deliver you their organic products!
I came here over the weekend to pick up some compost. As it was my first time, I was a little confused as to what mounds were what (with the exception of the wood chips pile). I believe I may have picked up some arbor mulch instead of the compost (they're both brown). Oh well... it was free! I'll be back again sometime soon to grab some more compost/mulch, and likely will have someone who works there to instruct me on which mound is what.
For those who want to trek out to SF to grab some free "dirt", their hours of operation are from 7-3:30PM Mon-Sat. They're open during COVID!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Sasha D.Castro, San Francisco, CA321116Sep 23, 2022
Really fantastic place for free mulch. We've been using it on our garden paths and front yard for the last three years. Team is skilled, thorough, kind and even loaded the mulch for us. We will be coming back again and again. Thank you!!

Bayview Greenwaste delivers! Like literally - they deliver mulch to our big community gardens every year and we can't do without it! The drivers always get the gigantic piles of mulch placed in the right spot and the process is always easy.

Sanjay at Bayview Greenwaste is an incredible community member. They are always doing their best to help the community. They donated 60 cubic yards of material to a project I worked on in 2010/2011 called Hayes Valley Farm. They are also willing to help you haul green waste with their trucks if its possible with their busy schedule. Thank you Sanjay and Bayview Greenwaste team! :)

Excellent service. When dumping debris for the first time, pay first. Minimum is $20.
Their "compost" is only briefly composted, but it makes for a great soil amendment. The chips are a very consistent product in color and texture.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jack B.San Francisco, CA22463May 14, 2017
They take in green waste at a good price.
Always friendly. A good option to paying dump prices for green waste at Sunset.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Denise L.San Francisco, CA151323Feb 7, 2018
This place says it is less expensive than recology but it is not! They are actually more expensive than Recology and the trucks move around you while you are unloading so you get absolutely filthy, at least I did. They kicked up so much dirt and they did not even care that they were only 5 feet away from where I was the only person unloading my truck, which took about 15 minutes. They were not around me when I started but instantly came over to my area when I parked and started unloading. Unless you have to go on a day where Recology is closed I would say do not go to this place but it was okay. They did have first aid supplies when I smashed my finger and it was bleeding profusely.
