Bert's Automotive Transmissions

I've been coming here for several years now and there's a reason for that. I've had most of the basics done...battery replacement, brake pads, tail lights, oil changes etc. Every time I've been able to bring my car in at a convenient time, it's been ready when they say it will be and the pricing has been more than fair.

Once I even brought my car in for tire rotation and oil change and Mo said I didn't need the oil changed yet cause i hadn't reached the 6K mileage (i brought it in after 6 months). They rotated my tires anyway and didn't charge me anything.
Who does that??

I also appreciate that they don't make me feel like a total tool even though I basically know nothing about cars. They answer my questions and always give me a thorough breakdown of what's going on and why.
I have a few friends who've recently had really bad luck with their mechanic so I'm more than happy to keep giving Bert's my business.

I have nothing but praise for Azaad and the team. I have been going to them since I got my car and recommend everyone I know to them. They are fair, honest and open about what work needs to be done. I never receive surprise charges. When I got my gaskets replaced they even gave me a selection as to what part model to get with varying prices. When my car made weird noises, they took it overnight to test drive it and discovered the problem was rubbing metal. They didn't even charge me. Definitely will be a lifetime customer!

Bert's is awesome. I checked many different mechanics around Vancouver to have some work done on my 1980 F150. It was a big job, changing drum brakes to disc brakes and installing a new limited slip rear end in ford 9". There are always variables and unknowns in doing jobs like this and Moe and Azaad really spent the time with me to determine what I wanted out of the work, and what was ultimately the work worth putting in, and they did an honest job estimating and reviewing all the work with me along the way and at the end. They are courteous, passionate and honest and give great feedback. Really, stand up guys! They are busy in there, for good reason, because they are the best around! 5 stars. Thanks guys :)

I had some issues with my car and took it in to Bert's Automotive on Kingsway St. In Vancouver March 10/2021 and they charged me $380 to tell me what was wrong and also gave me an estimate to fix 2 problems they said they found . But both things they said needed to be fixed were recently repaired elsewhere so before I went ahead with their estimate to fix both so called problems I said I would go to the other places first to see if there was any warranty left . The first place said they would warranty the rear shocks after I told them what Bert's said about them being worn out and I made an appointment with them on the 13th . When I took it there they said there was nothing wrong with the shocks and gave me paperwork stating that . So i went to Bert's and left a letter telling them this because they were closed when I went there . I also asked the owner who I'd dealt with there , Azaad to phone me which he didn't do so I drove there on Monday afternoon on the 15th and asked to speak with him and the man at the counter made me wait while the owner finished his lunch at 2:30 pm which I found to be very unprofessional seeing he'd already ignored my letter which I was shown they had received . And when he finally came out I tried to show him the paperwork I had from the people who did my shocks stating they were ok and he didn't even want to see it and still maintained that he was right that the shocks were worn out even though I told him what Canadian tire said and I even had it in writing to . Then he told me to leave which I did . But there was still the other problem they diagnosed which was the front passenger wheel hub which I had made an appointment to get checked out by the people who installed it which I did and they also independently checked my rear shocks to and also found nothing wrong with them either . And both places said I was charged way too much for the tests Bert's Automotive did . So not only did they incorrectly tell me what was wrong with my rear shocks they also gave me an estimate to have them replaced that didn't need doing . And when I phoned the owner back today the 18th and tried to tell him all this he offered me a $30 refund off the $380 I was charged and when I told him that wasn't to my satisfaction he said he was done talking to me and hung up before I could finish speaking . The bottom line here is I had been happy with their service in the past although I found their prices high and thought I could trust them but after this experience I will never use them again and would not recommend them to anyone !

These guys are honest, fair, decently priced and very patient about explaining the various options available in the multitude of situations I have brought my vehicles to them for. I feel totally safe trusting them with my car and knowing I am not being lied to or upsold.

I have sent friends to them as well, and they have all come back surprised at how little they spent and how well they were treated.

I was experiencing what I thought were rear differential/transmission noises at high speeds and brought my car to my regular mechanic to confirm. They were in agreement that the problem was likely this and due to the specialized nature of the work immediately recommended Bert's Auto. They called the shop ahead of time for me and Azaad was able to take my vehicle in that same day.

Upon arrival everyone was busy but still friendly. I did a test drive with one of their mechanics and he was very thorough and thoughtful in putting the car through its paces and asking questions.

Once we were back in the shop both the mechanic and Azaad hoisted the car and invited me to get under the vehicle with them taking the time to point out potential problem points and also explain any mechanical workings I did not know about. Again, patient and thorough. I have an older car (70's) and they were able to source many parts for very fair prices which i did not expect given the rarity of some of the items.

The work took a day longer than planned but that was only because I agreed to a touch more work outside of the original scope. Having said that every conversation I had after I left my car with Bert's was very informative and at no point did I feel pressured or getting a hard sell. I truly got the impression that they take pride in their service and car about your ride as much as you do.

In the end everything came in on time and on budget. When I picked up the car Azaad told me (without any suggestion on my part) to come back in a month and he would do an inspection on the vehicle free of charge to make sure that all repairs were holding up to a level that he and I were both satisfied with. Considering I am going on a 6000km trip in a month he understands the importance of a customer feeling assured and trusting in the work as well as the people doing it!

I will continue to get my car serviced here and do not hesitate recommending Bert's Auto to anyone in need of their specialized work.

I called Bert's and asked for an estimate on clutch replacement service, was quoted $900 including parts+labor. Once they took it apart/got it up on the hoist, price suddenly changed to $1600+tax even though job was the same. The manager of the shop tried to justify increased price by saying my engine and transmission were non standard for the car and also clutch was high performance. A few quick google searches later discovered these were all lies. (ex: clutch was just OEM replacement, engine and tranny are standard) After bringing these issues to his attention, he refused to correct the pricing, so only option for me was to get car towed to another shop nearby to finish the job. (btw the other shop was great and fixed things up perfectly for the quoted price) Once car arrived at other shop and on hoist, they discovered that the slave cylinder shaft was bent at 90 degrees, almost as if it had been put into a vice. Strangely the mechanic at Bert's had mentioned the slave cylinder was bent just as I was about to tow it out of their shop, even though they had never mentioned this being an issue earlier. (was this an oops I bent it on purpose moment for the mechanic?) My advice is do not trust these guys! There are lot of honest/better shops out there - no need to use Bert's.

I recommend Bert's Automotive very highly. Azaad is extremely honest and straightforward in explaining what is wrong and needed to repair. Top notch service. I have not had an experience this good at a repair shop ever. I have been to them a few times now, and will never go anywhere else.

Unorganized, Overpriced, Unprofessional, Rude and Incompetent. Kept my car for 2 months to do something that should have taken 5 hours of labor and did not provide updates unless I called them. Also charged double the industry rate after dragging out the work on my vehicle. Questioned the inflated charge and provided several quotes from other shops to the owner confirming the huge difference in price and witnessed a tantrum and meltdown followed by the being hung up on. This was surprising as he sounded very accomodating initially.
Be wary if they do not readily provide you with a quote and instead tell you it's a labor of love. I found this to be a stalling tactic as my vehicle was worked on only when they had time deferring to other work which was not ever disclosed or agreed upon in our first conversation. Without a doubt the worst example of customer service I have experienced in any industry.
