Wonderfully small, beautifully decorated Sushi restaurant. The service was excellent, our waitress was pleasant and very helpful.

My son and I went here on a snowy Saturday, and besides a table of 6 we were the only ones In the restaurant.

The dining area is small, with close tables and from my experience, it does seem that it may get a bit loud when packed with diners.

The menu is eye catching ( we used our phone, not to sure if they have a physical menu) both in offerings and in price. THIS IS NOT A CHEAP DINING EXPERIENCE! Saying that, it is a Sushi experience like no other that I have come across, ANYWHERE I have dined in my travels!

We started with the Spicy Miso soup, almost a Ramen like broth, with a bit of heat. (My heat tolerance is very high as well as my son) so would this be to hot for you? I'm not to sure.
      RECOMMENDED!

Followed by the Shrimp Tempura, again, some of the best that I have had. We even left a couple of pieces until the end of the meal and those were as crispy and held shape when lifted by the tail as the first shrimp!
      RECOMMEND!

Lastly we had the Jupiter Rain Premium Oshi. A feast for the eyes! Each piece was so delicious and almost melt in your mouth.
      RECOMMENDED!

We also had the green Tea, this was free refills, and was nice and hot.

An excellent Sushi experience, the whole meal was out of this world! Unfortunately, my only down side to this dining experience was for spending $59 for 2 people, (including tip) we did walk away hungry. Not starving, but hungry.

They had my favourite Sushi, Unagi Nigiri (BBQ Eel), but these were almost $5 a piece, and between my self and my son we could have easily polished off 6 pieces.

So, great experience, excellent Sushi, quality through the roof, but you're gonna pay for it.

The family had a craving for sushi and we were around the Chinook/Macleod Trail area so found this restaurant. It's in a mixed use area of residential and commercial. There was plenty of parking. The place is not very big and we had to wait a few minutes for a table to open up before we were seated. The restaurant is very nicely decorated.

We ordered the Atlantic Salmon Sashimi, Albacore Tuna Sashimi, Saba Sashimi, Tropic Rush Roll, California Roll, Veggie Tempura, and House Green Salad. Everything was super fresh and tasted great. The family really enjoyed the meal.

The staff were friendly. There is a QR code that you get the menu and you can order off the site (create account) or let the staff know what you want to order. I think the restaurant is better for couples, friends, or business meetings. There was nothing wrong for our family but just the vibe and ambience I think caters to more intimate setting. Prices also were more expensive so bringing a family with big appetites could set you back. We had a great time and enjoyed the food.

Ever since trying pressed sushi for the first time at Vancouver's Miku, one of the first things I do every time I sit down to plan a trip to Canada is research the city's best oshizushi spot. Big Catch's menu immediately enticed me with the extensive selection offered, and was one of the most anticipated meals of our trip.

We started off the meal with their house made yuzu-infused ginger beer, which was refreshingly light, citrusy and officially takes the cake for my favorite ginger beer of all time.

As you can see from the photos, the painstaking attention to detail and pride that they have in their craft shines through in the dazzlingly aesthetic sushi pieces that are *almost* too pretty to eat. I was literally giddy seeing the plate come out because of how beautiful everything looked.

To start off, I would highly recommend the Madai Nigiri, a delicately sweet red sea bream that is perfect to kick off your meal before digging into the special rolls. The menu offers a pretty extensive selection of rolls with a variety of protein options (wagyu, Miso-braised pork and mushrooms in addition to the standard fish). Everything we got was incredibly tasty (Autumn Haze, Magic Mushroom, Iron Goddess, Saba Blaze) but the most memorable standout was the Magic Mushroom, which comes with 4 different kinds of Japanese mushrooms topped with a bomb truffle sauce, making for an exquisite little bundle of umami that may be one of the best vegan rolls I've ever had.

To finish off our delicious meal, we got the sweet potato panna cotta, which checked off all the boxes: unique, not-too-sweet and portioned just right for sharing.

Service is top notch and the hostesses and servers are all incredibly sweet. Our bill came with a personalized, hand-written punny note and adorable drawing, which was a nice quirky touch to make our meal even more memorable. This charming little restaurant absolutely deserves a spot on every sushi lover's Calgary itinerary (online takeout is available and popular but I have to insist you dine in for dinner)!

This place is very small but extremely popular- especially the online takeout. As of today, they are only open for dining Thursday thru Sunday. Book reservations in advance as it gets crowded quickly.

I have had almost everything on the menu and it is all great. Everything is fresh and flavorful. When you leave - the only thing on your mind is when you want to return.

This is a cute japanese restaurant with amazing customer service. The restaurant is quite small, maybe 16 tables.. The drink menu is folded into origami folded on the table. Menu has lots of colorful photos to assist in decision making..
The food comes out beautifully plated. The wasabi is fresh and it's all in the details.. the plate garnish was impeccable, like art! We ordered bluefin tuna sashimi and it was melt in your mouth! The rest of the sushi was very nice as well.. we had the ginger, rosemary creme bruleè and sweet potato pana cotta for dessert. They don't charge outrageous for the desserts either. I had a yuzu lemonade which was fresh and delicious! We were offered more tea even after we paid the bill, which is often overlooked at other restaurants. I am very pleased with this entire experience. Would both reccomend and return!

I heard about Big Catch from my colleagues. This restaurant has 3 different pricing on three different menus. Prices on SkipTheDishes are the most expensive of the 3 menus, second would be the dine-in menu and lastly the take out menu. Both the SkipTheDishes and the take out menu have platters and combos. The dine-in menu doesn't offer platters or combos but they have special of the day items. When I say special of the day, I do not mean cheaper prices for the item they have listed as special of the day. The name "special of the day" should have been called "feature of the day". So here is an example: The Big Catch Combo on SkipTheDishes is $21.45 and if you went there and had it to go it would be $16.50. Yes that is a big difference. Another example would be their special Oishi Sushi: Eat in $15.95, Takeout $14.75 and Skip $19.15. Pricing of every item that are the same on the three menus are all different. If you are ordering platters or combos the price differences are huge. Don't forget the delivery charge on Skip as well. Just one platter on Skip vs take-out price difference ranges from $20 to $40.

I live in Downtown and it takes me about 20 mins to get from downtown to Big Catch. I came on a weekday when it was about -17 degrees and I thought to myself if I wanted to dine in or take out (to save a few $$). I ended up dining in instead. Sushi tastes a lot better if eaten right away. I ended up getting the 2 Oishi sushi: Autumn Haze and The Una. First off, I really liked the way the presented the dishes. It was really nice laid out. The sushi was made with care. I really liked the flavor. All the ingredients were fresh. The flavor in the autumn haze was interesting because they added like peppermint leaf or some sort of minty leaf in the sushi. The Una had the unique non spicy ginger topped on the sushi. The flavor was so unique that I have never had it in sushi back in Vancouver or in Japan before. Don't get me wrong, the chef and server here are Japanese and I am sure the sushi here are very authentic. I am sure there are restaurants in Japan that serves sushi using the ingredients they used to bring out that unique flavoring. I liked the decorations or sauces that they put on the side of the plate. They were very light in flavor but they were good. The wasabi was stamped with a nice flower and that was very pretty making the entire dish photogenic worthy.

At the end, I also got dessert. I got the Sweet Potato Panna Cotta. It was small but it was very light and refreshing. It had a very light hint of sweetness all from the natural sweet potato. Desserts are not offered on the Take-out or the Skip menu.
Service here was awesome. I was checked on couple times on how thing were going. Like most Japanese restaurants in Calgary and towns, tea is not free. There is a $1.25 charge for tea. I ended up getting hot water with lemon. I had enough tea at work already and don't think I want to drink any more.

Décor inside is really nice. The restaurant is very small and I do suggest making a reservation when coming here. I came on a cold day and there was a table available right away.

In Calgary, it is not easy to find a good Sushi or Japanese Restaurant. I have tried many Japanese restaurants in Calgary and it has always been a hit or miss. Prices are always on the higher end when it comes to specialty restaurant like Big Catch. Being from Vancouver, Calgary doesn't have a lot of good Japanese options. I do highly recommend trying Big Catch.

The restaurant is located inside the Heritage Station Development Plaza. There are plenty of free parking out front.

Always consistent and I enjoy the Oshi Sushi and the chicken nanban. The little extras like the always cute notes and flower for presentation show they really appreciate their customers.

After hearing great things about Big Catch, my boyfriend and I decided to stop by to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. I had messaged them on Instagram to ask if they were going to be open, as it was a stat holiday on the day we wanted to visit. They said yes, and were kind enough to help me book a reservation through IG! However, when I arrived, they didn't have any record of the reservation :( There was a free table in the corner, but I didn't like how it felt super cramped. Oh well.

I started off with a sangria, which was okay but not as sweet as I'd like. We ordered the Chef's Sashimi to start (~$24) which comes with 12 pcs of sashimi - we had a mix of salmon (4 pieces), tuna (4 pieces), hamachi (2 pieces) and bluefin tuna (2 pieces). All of the sashimi was super fresh! (And I was born and raised in Vancouver, so you know I'm picky about my sushi). The presentation for all of the food we ordered was on point! Made for a great experience, and also great Instagram photos (haha). For rolls this is what we ordered:

Ruby Sky - bluefin tuna - I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce (it was very salty). I would probably pass on this one unless you're a huge fan of the umami flavours.
Autumn Haze - a tasty option for salmon aburi, but the green halo was our favourite!
Green Halo - your classic salmon aburi sushi. Was one of our favourites of the night, we liked the spicy kick.
Passion Sunrise - surprisingly one of my favourite rolls of the night, despite not being an aburi roll. Would reorder again!
Dynamite Roll - your standard stuff, my boyfriend wanted this one

I really regret not ordering the Iron Goddess (wagyu beef aburi). Next time! We couldn't resist trying one of their desserts and went with the Matcha White Chocolate Panna Cotta ($2.75). The dessert is very cheap by dessert standards but was a small portion. There was a lot of intense matcha flavour, if you're into that!

One thing that I will note is that so many people raved about the excellent service but unfortunately I did not have the same experience. No one came to refill our water and service was only mediocre. Nonetheless, the food was tasty so I would return! It is a little more on the expensive side, but definitely worth it for a special occasion or simply, a treat yourself kind of meal!
