The staff was courteous, well-informed, and accommodating, despite not having the specific book I was seeking. They kindly offered to order it for me. I also mentioned that I am an author, and they were proactive in ordering my book as well. They assured me that they would make it available for purchase.

This bookstore is busy and energetic- many readers in the store- young and old. Big variety of topics, new and current. They have events, autographed books, toys and games here. Didn't see any used books. Every inch is full of an enticing books or other item! Good selection of travel books by country - thanked for having several books on Scotland!

This is my go-to spot for books locally. There is a warm, friendly environment. It is very neat, organized, and clean - just how I would like my own library. It is well lit with lots of good features on display. Oh, and signing events with authors! Eragon! They do have medieval fantasy titles and books too! There is a whole section dedicated to that - more geared towards young adults. But it is good to see a few Dungeons & Dragons titles here and there!

If you are a local teacher, inquire about the discount! For educational staff too, I think? This is valuable and a good way to support local bookstores.

Nice independent neighborhood bookstore. It's a good place for browsing for books and magazines. A little small but they have plenty of books in every category plus cards, puzzles and other gift items.

They have a free membership program that gives you rewards after spending so much.

Great book shop. Goes the xtra mile to find what you're looking for if it's not in stock. Great selection & awesome customer service.

Came in looking for something for a child with autism (sensory, texture). Asked a rep (older woman with grey hair/glasses) who was of 0 help. She had me help her look in a section designated for adults. The woman had an unfriendly vibe to her and u can tell she had no idea what she was looking for. When I said I had to go she became sort of defensive. Its really not my job to be helping me guide you in your place of work. Would likely not come in again based on my experience with that employee alone.

One of the better indie bookstores in SF, with a great children's section and good fiction and non fiction areas, full of staff recommendation tables. The Bookshop West Portal has the advantage of being right off the MUNI line, and with nearby street parking (pay for metered parking right outside) as well as only being a block from the Noe Valley Bakery and Peet's Coffee here in neighborhood-y West Portal.

You can get their frequent buyer card, for a discount after a minimum amount of purchasing. The only weak link here for me is their magazine selection, which is very small and not terribly inspiring, but does carry the basics along with some literary zines. The Bookshop WP does host some pretty major authors in a very small space, so worth checking it out for one of their readings.

This book shop is a particularly special place. There are little nooks and crannies where you can browse through the book of your choice, a great layout, cat and bumblebee socks (of course, duh), date books, and all the book genres your heart could desire. Including cookbooks - and by cookbooks, I mean even a Harry Potter cookbook containing recipes from all the movies. There's a recipe for magic wand breadsticks that you simply cannot miss. It has a very sweet vibe, and the people who work here are absolutely delightful. Bookstores are always worth wandering into, but especially this one.
