Burgoo came to life because we believe everyone needs a little comfort and a place to enjoy some great comfort food. No matter what the season is, a tiny bit of comfort can go a long way to making someone's day more satisfying. We felt that creating an old-world, countryside ambience in our locations--through earth tones, natural finishes and materials--would harken back to a simpler time. We hope we've achieved that in some small way and trust that all those who come here experience Burgoo's essence.

I had really high expectations, given the positive reviews, but felt like this was just okay. To be clear, it wasn't bad but was just mediocre. When I walked in, there was no one at the hostess stand and it took a couple minutes to get seated even though the restaurant was mostly empty. After getting seated, service continued to be slow despite an empty restaurant.
I ordered biscuits and a soup/ salad. The herbed butter that came with the biscuits was delicious. Soup and salad were pretty good.
Nice little place, just needs to be more attentive.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 9372401373Jun 14, 2024
It had been awhile since I visited Burgoo on Burrard street. I came here because I had friend visiting Vancouver for the first time and she wanted to go to the most "cheesiest" restaurant we had... first place I thought about was Burgoo.
This particular location is pretty nice, they have big tables which allow for larger groups and a small patio right in front of St. Paul's Hospital so a lot of hustle bustle. As a big lavender fan, I obviously ordered their lavender mocktail and it was SOOO GOOD that I ordered it again a second time. I would highly recommend trying this as a summer drink, so refreshing and yummy!!
Their fonduementale was a big hit as always, although I wish their bread pieces were more like croutons. It would taste better!
I tried their corn ribs for the first time and was pretty impressed!! The flavours were amazing and it was pretty crispy. Also got their mac n' cheese which never disappoints.
The service was great as always!! I think the next time I would go back there would be once it's cooler to have their decadent French onion soup heheHelpful 5Thanks 2Love this 4Oh no 0 - Natalie H.Vancouver, Canada765Jun 6, 2024
I'm so sad to report that my at one time worth every penny $30 grilled cheese and tomato soup has been reduced to half a notch up from Tim Hortons. There so was completely unseasoned, watery, and lacking it's usual perfect kick of spice. The sandwich was considerably smaller, completely lacking of all the beautiful lovingly grilled in a bucket of butter golden brown bread, the barely browned bread seemed almost as if it came out of the microwave and was totally ABSENT of the crispy Carmelized cheese wafer that formed from the generously stuffed excess cheese mthat spilled out on the grill during the cooking process. This meal used to take easily at least 30 minutes from the time it was ordered to be in your hand. This complete rip off fraud of a meal was put in less than ten. So disappointed, really annoyed that I ordered another bowl of soup on top of the after school special, as aside from dipping my lacklustre sandwich into the flavourless bowl of disappointment, it was inedible.
Service was excellent! The girl behind the car was beautiful, friendly and attentive. I'm sure if I didn't take it home, and I had brought the issues to her attention that she'd have taken care of us.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1353622611Jun 4, 2024

My partner and I just love Burgoo. Sometimes you just need comfort food, and that is exactly what Burgoo does best. My go-to is always the French Onion Soup, my partner always gets the Mac & Cheese. We have been here several times & it has always been top notch. I'd also recommend the dark & stormy, they do it well here!
Pretty small place with cozy booth tables & dim lights, we haven't needed to make a reservation but we do just in case. Music can get a tad loud. They accommodated my peanut allergy very well & the staff were very kind.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Sep 30, 2023
It was my first time going to Burgoo on Burrard St. Across from St. Paul's hospital. Went to burgoo with a friend. I had the French Onion soup. It was really good. Liked the cheese on top. But it was very hot so have to be careful not to burn your mouth. And it wasn't bad price wise either. I would recommend trying this restaurant.

Excellent from top to bottom. Staff were A+ starting with the hostess then the server. The atmosphere was a bit country kitchen. The location felt welcoming and relaxed.
This is an eclectic mix of comfort food from around the world - it is subtitle but once you really read the menu it will become clear. Probably the best Cuban sandwich I have ever had. My wife enjoyed the Straight Up tomato soup. Both were served with a side salad of fresh greens. The Burgoo biscuits can't be missed. It was the perfect end to a long and warm day in the city.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Karl D.Vancouver, Canada11627Jan 26, 2024
Grumble. I really, really want to be able to give Burgoo four or five stars, but I can't until their chefs learn to be grownups about primary flavours. I'll explain: today it occurred to me as I was about to walk past that I couldn't remember why it had been a few years since I ate at Burgoo, so I stopped in for lunch. Ordered the dijon chicken (side of biscuits) to eat there on site, as well as a jambalaya to take home to my husband. The biscuits were good, and came with herbed butter just the right texture for easy spreading (but didn't Burgoo used to have amazing cheese-chive biscuits? I think they did...).
The dijon chicken was beautifully plated, and had all the makings of a real winner: a good amount of high-quality chicken, good mushrooms and properly-not-overcooked peas and turnips (maybe rutabagas?), and plenty of dijon sauce, with a nice puff-pastry crown on the side. Sort of deconstructed chicken pot pie. But it was massively oversalted. It was just way, way too salty, far beyond the bounds of personal taste for a bit more or a bit less salt. It was difficult to taste flavours other than SALLLTTTTT!!!!!! That turned what had sounded and looked quite appealing into a disappointment.
Got the chocolate-banana bread pudding for dessert. Desserts are usually meant to be sweet, and again, there'll always be variance in personal preferences, but this was massively too sweet. Far too much sugar. It was difficult to discern any flavour other than SWEEEEEEET!!!!!.
Back home, hubz--who had been looking forward to the jambalaya, and unprompted by me, had the same reaction as I did to the chicken: OMG WAY TOO MUCH SALT.
Somebody please remind the chefs they aren't cooking for toddlers with undeveloped palates. Adults don't need (or want) to be whacked over the head with SALTY or SWEET; it's a damn shame to vandalise dishes by drowning out the flavour of high-quality ingredients like this.
(Oh yeah...that's why I hadn't been in awhile!)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 9, 2023
Met up with a friend on Dec 21st here for a lunch. This was smaller than Main St, but the same cozy atmosphere for a comfort food.
It was freezing cold that day. We ordered After School Special ($19.50) and French Onion Soup ($14.50). I was so impressed by the taste of both grilled cheese and tomato soup. Crunchy bread and so much stretch in cheese! Besides it was a good cheese NOT Kraft cheddar! Tomato soup was so flavourful! Even my friend liked the grilled cheese, it was excellent!
Couldn't say much on French onion soup. Buddy said it was salty so she couldn't finish it. Food was on the pricy side for sure. I seriously enjoyed my food it was quite a surprise. I was little puzzled of construction of kitchen and washroom thinking washroom was way back against the wall. Food didn't take long to come out.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - David P.North Hollywood, CA0262May 5, 2024
The service was terrific and I cannot put in to words how wonderful our food was. All I can say is, if I were to open a restaurant, I would do whatever it takes to steal the chef away from here. If you like homemade beef burgundy, French open soup, grilled cheese sandwich and Irish coffee, get yourself in to Burgos Bistro.
