California Mantel & Fireplace

My fireplace went out after a very windy day, so I just assumed the pilot needed to be relit and called PG&E. They explained that it was an electric ignite and nothing to do with the pilot and suggested that I call an independent contractor. This is where the fun begins... if you've ever searched for fireplace repair, fireplace service etc you'll get a lot of misc. companies such as HVAC or chimney cleaners, none of which actually provide a service for the fireplace itself. I finally found California Mantel & Fireplace and they sent someone out to do a cleaning and inspection to find the problem. The service person arrives and I get him all setup to do his thing and I returned to the office to work. He lets me know that it is fixed and has it all put together (this was less than 10 minutes) so I asked him if he cleaned and inspected it in which he replied that they only wipe down the glass. I thought it was odd, but hey what do I know about fireplaces anyway? As he's walking out of the house I tell him to have a good weekend and he let me know that today was his last day on the job. Hmmn? That raised a red flag for me on the whole inspection and lack of cleaning that took place, but it was working so I figured it was my bad for not pushing the issue. A few days pass and the fireplace is still working but there is a delay on it starting, so I call them back and explain the situation. I decided to inquire on the cleaning/inspection that was included in the original $185 service fee while I am at it. Today, a very nice man named Jim came out and he did a thorough cleaning, and inspection of the fireplace. He explained things step by step so that I knew what he was doing. He cleaned out all of the years of gunk that had accumulated in there, replaced some logs and rocks and got us back in working order. Unlike the first visit, I am pretty confident that we are in good shape now. The first encounter was not too good... but they sure made up for it today and they were pleasant to deal with.I will definitely call them again for any future fireplace needs (hopefully not too soon!)

Repair of two gas fireplaces. Fireplace number 1 had side panels fall off. On/off switch on number 2 was not working. Two repairmen came over and were able to fix both fireplaces in a short amount of time. The workmanship was teriffic and the fee was reasonable. I would highly recommend their service.

I would note though, that it took two weeks to schedule an appointment. I guess that the price you pay for getting a highly rated Yelp service. So if your project requires immediate attention, you may need to consider other options--or exercise patience.

Back in December 2023, I scheduled a fireplace maintenance for my property. Customer support on the phone and the service technician were polite and professional. Unfortunately that week one of their service technicians came down with a flu, but the team reached out to reschedule and I got an even faster appointment date in the end. On the day of the service appointment, the service technician was very professional and made sure to lay out the service carpet and wore shoe covers when entering our property. The issue with our fireplace was a simple fix of removing the spider web from the gas outlet. I was happy with their work and would recommend their fireplace services to other folks.

We bought an electric insert to replace a 23 year old gas insert. I prefer to buy local even if the cost is a bit higher. The price for our insert was actually lower at California Mantel and Fireplace, however the $125 delivery fee brought it up to slightly more than an online price. We were ok with that!

When the insert arrived, a trim piece was defective. My wife contacted California Mantel and Fireplace and was told to contact the manufacturer directly. Issues of this nature is what makes me want to buy locally-service after the sale. Being told to take care of it ourselves is not what I expected. Not much support after the sale.

I did contact the manufacturer (SimpliFire). They were exceptionally helpful. Their representative (Kendra) shipped a replacement of the defective trim to me the very next day. The tracking number shows it arriving Friday after it shipped on Tuesday.

Overall, a so-so experience with California Mantel and Fireplace, but a great experience with the manufacturer.

I would like to acknowledge your service representative Mana who came to my home today to repair my fireplace. He was very professional, courteous and knowledgeable of the unit. Mana took his time to troubleshoot and fix the problem. I highly recommend this company and most of all, this technician!

Called them for a new mantle for my fireplace. Shawn and his job foreman. They came out as promised, took measurements and said that they would call me with ideas and prices. Total ghost, never called to follow up. My opinion they are only in it for quick money. Find easy jobs and over charge you. Just my opinion.

After dealing unsuccessfully with 1 other company and an independent contractor we were referred to California Mantel. We were told before we needed an entire new kit amounting to hundreds of dollars. Rob came today and with his experience was able to determine an issue that resulted in a simple fix..very simple! He saved the day! I would highly recommend California Mantel!

Both Michaels, the service tech and the office guy were awesome. Service tech arrived when they said they would, diagonosed the problems with two fireplaces, gave me as much information as I wanted about the fireplaces and the remotes, fixed a remote and ordered a part. Staff called back and kept me informed the whole time. Remember when this was simply "expected" of your service provider, and now it's refreshing to know it still exists. Highly recommended.

Nikki is the best and she helped me fix a really hard problem. They standby their work.

We needed a new fireplace and their selection and knowledge was outstanding. After the purchase they installed and what a fabulous job. So happy.

Only company that called us back and could install in 2020. Great service especially from our installer Ryan. He did a great job and went above and beyond for us.
