If you're looking to have your vents cleaned, look no further! Calvey Heating & Air had the best price, professional + polite + helpful staff.
The staff was great on multiple fronts:
1. I appreciated how understanding the guy was about taking off his shoes. I know many households have no-shoe rules, so it always shocks me when I get attitude from people coming into my home and won't take off their shoes. Or they walk 10 ft in and then take it off. Or they give me attitude. In ay case, the man from Calvey instantly took off his shoes when asked with no fuss.
2. He arrived early!
3. Quick, speedy, efficient service
4. Offered helpful guidance that we needed the dryer's vent cleaned, which cost extra (but still reasonable)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Milad H.San Francisco, CA01Jul 31, 2024
Quick and responsive service. Julio, Pedro, and Ivan did a great job installing a new mini-split unit for us.

Worked with Johnny Deluna on installing 2 dual fuel heat pump systems. I interviewed 4-5 other contractors before choosing Calvey. I must say they came up with the best design that allowed me to have a flexible and highly performant system. Their price was very competitive too. Overall their design was better and more cost effective because Johnny didn't try to sell me things that I didn't need and I really liked the honest and transparent approach. Additionally Johnny found the ideal placement of the external units that not only passed inspections without issues but also are positioned well with respect to the outdoor space (no other companies proposed this solution).
We encountered some issues after installation, but I must say that Johnny and his crew were very responsive and took care of solving any issue I encountered with the system. After using it for almost 2 months we're very happy with the end result.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Zihao X.San Francisco, CA2462421Mar 30, 2024
I hired separate contractors to remove my asbestos lined ducts. Calvey then replaced with new ducts and updated my home's original gravity air furnace with a forced air low efficiency gas furnace. My house is in San Francisco.
The experience was not the smoothest but I was happy with the level of service.
Negatives
- took three or four attempts over several months to pass city inspection and get the permits approved
- related to above, didn't seem super familiar with SF's requirements for passing inspection (e.g. separate building and plumbing permits were needed for replacing the ducts versus furnace)
Positives
- Not pushy about what to replace my original furnace with, helpful on the best past forward
- Work was 95% completed relatively quickly (by Johnny Deluna's crew)
- For the last 5% that was failing the inspection, Calvey did take responsibility and followed through with scheduling fixes and additional permit inspections without charging more. Shoutout to Izabella for handling things on the Calvey side.
- Price was competitive versus the three other quotes I received
More of their business seemed to be outside of the city, so something to be aware of if you're looking for contractors to do permitted HVAC work in SF. You may end up taking longer than expected to get everything to city standards.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Galen F.Menlo Park, CA04Aug 29, 2024
Calvey Heating & Air was on time and on budget. Very good customer service plus they fixed the issue in a timely manner. Highly Recommended!

Yes they technically fulfilled the contract, yes the air conditioner works, yes it passed the city inspection. Did I have a good experience? No
I went with their quote because they seemed to pay the most attention to the aesthetics of the install. They included wall patching and suggested inset mini split vents for a nicer look. Their quote was on the high side but thought based on good reviews and attention to the look of the install it was the right choice.
On the day of the install it was frustration after frustration. First they wanted to cut beams in my ceiling to make it fit in a certain spot that is easier to install. I'm not a structural engineer but cutting beams doesn't seem like the best idea. Then after we found a new spot they didn't measure or line up the hole they cut square with the wall so the inset unit is slanted and off center. Every time I asked for something to be measured or lined up correctly or installed in a new spot I was told "no it's impossible". I had to argue with the onsite workers, and then call the salesman who provided the quote who would call the workers and tell them to do it. This happened multiple times a day during the install process.
The wall patch quality that was included was bad. I was told multiple times that it's impossible to make it look right. Eventually the salesperson had the wall patch guy come back and redo it better. But the attitude I was given was that the wall patching is just a niceity they offer and I shouldn't expect quality since they are just an HVAC company.
I already brought up all these issues and more during the install and let the company know I am not happy with their work. It seems like since they got paid they don't really care and "will take my feedback into consideration with the owner". Posting this publicly with images so you can decide for yourself if you are ok with their quality of work.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Laurie B.Burlingame, CA151Aug 24, 2024
From the first phone to Calvey to the completion of our job the service was amazing! The estimate was fair and there was no additions "needed" as the job went on. They were at my home for 3 days and did their job professionally. Cleaned up everyday too. Can't recommend them highly enough!!

I highly recommend Calvey Heating & Air. On August 9 Calvey replaced my 29 year old Trane furnace and AC with a new Carrier HVAC system (I stayed with gas instead of installing a heat pump). I had 8 contractors/companies give me their estimates before I made my selection. Michael was great and presented me with a very competitive proposal. I selected Calvey because of their great Yelp reviews and reputation. Their 5 workers showed up on time, were very thorough and professional, and completed the whole installation in less than 8 hours. I have no reservations in recommending Calvey Heating & Air for any of your HVAC installation or repair jobs.

Johnny and the Calvey team have come through multiple times for me. They recently completed a 2nd HVAC installation for and their service, responsiveness and attention to detail are exceptional.
Johnny personally followed up with me several times to ensure the project was completed exactly as requested.
Great value and will continue to return for future business.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michael R.Cupertino, CA08Aug 8, 2024
Unreliable company. They set up an appointment and never show up nor do they call to notify.

Hi Michael, I'm wondering if you have the correct company because we don't have a Michael R on our schedule so not sure what happened here but as you can see in our last two reviews Calvey is responsive and communicates well. Please call Raelene to discuss.

Our technician Aidan was fantastic. He walked us through all of the inspections he was conducting and found a very cost effective solution for our cooling needs! We can't recommend them enough!
