I remember when mechanic's garages at gas stations were a most common & admirable sight..good guys in overalls fixing other peoples cars..you could ask them questions & they'd gladly share their knowledge with you & make recommendations if you were fixing your own car.. then they began to disappear one by one, replaced with gas stations with pop and candy only, no mechanics, nothing. Now you can't even pump gas without paying first to some bored looking person stuck behind the till..
God help you if you need an honest-to-goodness mechanic ..
But we still have Charlies Garage!
Bill is knowledgable, easy going, generous & holds good old fashioned values; a friendly, highly skilled mechanic that fixes your car professionally for an honest price.

Bill is the best mechanic I've found in Vancouver. Honest guy, does great work and always makes time to fit us in. Cannot recommend him enough!

I used to visit him at his shop downtown, and was so relived to find him after he moved. Big or small, he's your guy.

Used to go to Bill, and my experience was same as Kez wrote. When I bought a hybrid I figured i had to go to the dealer for the vehicle maintenance schedule... after the 4th visit I was FUMING MAD! I had enough!!! Repairs $200.00 oil change and air filters (it was overpriced parts) LABOUR $440.00 - the one thing I told them to fix - my fog lights - were not even checked! ENOUGH gauging!
Crossing my fingers, hope in my heart... I called Charlie's to ask him if he took hybrids! YEAH HE DOES! My Highlander will be in the good hands of Bill... the 'motor cars guardian angel'. :)

Okay, I was a little put off by the exterior of the shop - but honestly, this is the only place I will ever take my precious honda accord ('91 and still going strong!). I had noticed some clunkyness in the transmission, it was due for a bit of a check up, and Charlie's is conveniently located near the Burrard bridge, so I figured I'd give it a try. I'm always worried about how honest a mechanic will be with me (I very obviously know next to nothing about the inner workings of my vehicle), so I was expecting the worst when they called me back.

Imagine my surprise when the mechanic told me nothing needed to be done! That's right, nothing was wrong, although he advised me to replace the fan belt before winter. It's an old car and I fully expected a long list of very expensive work. I asked how much the check up was (they did tires, fluids, etcetc) and he said, "oh, I won't charge you". What?! Really?! Ohmygod.

I can't say enough things about this place. Bill must be the holy grail of all mechanics, and I'll be back for those new fan belts before too long.

finally!! A mechanic that actually repairs my car and within reasonable rates!
I had brought my car to 3 mechanics prior and they fixed things on my car that really didn't need fixing! Too much money out of my pocket!
I found Charlie's Garage online and phoned after hours. Bill told me that I could bring my car in any time the next day. When I brought it to the garage, I explained what was going on with my car. He said he would look at it and phone when he found what was wrong.
Within no time at all, he found the problem and phoned to approve of any repairs and then had it fixed. No, he didn't charge me hundreds and hundreds as the other mechanics did,,, he charged me a very minimal amount of money..!!
He is a very trustworthy mechanic...!!! I recommend him to anyone who is looking for their vehicle to be repaired!
I'm going back there and telling my friends about his garage as well!

This place is great. I booked an oil change and service for my newly purchased used Honda Civic because the garage is in my neighbourhood. The shop staff did the work quickly and had my car ready within the day. They were super nice to deal with and very reasonably priced. I will definitely go there again!

Bill has been servicing and repairing our vehicle(s) for a few years now and is always pleasant to deal with and very honest. He has saved us hundreds of dollars. He always does a thorough investigation and when it comes to replacement parts asks us how we want to proceed- new or used, that kind of thing. He doesn't have a loaner car, instead there's a waiting room if your job is quick or he'll drop you off and pick you up at the nearby Skytrain station. I wouldn't take my car to anyone else! Highly recommend him.

If you want to be frustrated and pay way too much $$$$ for the services your car might not even need, go to the dealership.
If you want to be happy, feel like you can trust the person who repairs your car, does the work that need to be done, for half the price of the dealership, then Charlie's garage is the place to go. Bill even picks up the phone as he work. He is on it. I love it when someone has the customer service skill as well. This place is the whole deal!

After being referred to Charlie's by a friend.... I wont take my car anywhere else. Excellent service and unbeatable prices. Ive been taking my Jetta there for 3 years now. Best garage in the city. !!!
