SO MUCH YUM IN ONE PLACE. Chelsea Market is located on 9th street between 14th and 15th. It is the home of the Food Network kitchens (SQUEEEE!!!! ) and some of the most delicious culinary delights that I've ever had the privilege to eat. Chelsea Market is a really awesome cross between mall/food court/designer restaurant/flea market/super market.
There are a lot of really cool shops and lots of awesome food stalls/shops. Some of the stalls/shops don't have seating areas so keep that in mind. Some of the food shops are similar to a restaurant, so go where you feel comfortable. My friends and I went to Friedman's for lunch and finished off in Chelsea Market's food court-ish type area for dessert at liddabit sweet and the donuttery...
Tips:
-Try as many shops as possible!
-Opt for a small lunch and lots of snacks in between!
-Take a lap before you choose what to eat... Each shop seems better than the next
-Lots of different foods for lots of different budgets!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 29, 2024
When my daughter and I visited NYC, this market was on our list. Such a fun and lively place. Lots of unique stores and restaurants.
I ended up purchasing a really cool backpack directly from the artist, I have since ordered two more from him online. I also bought a couple paperback books and a phone case.
All the merchants provided helpful service and prices varied from shop to shop. So many choices for food and assorted treats.
This market is easy to get to from the subway and definitely worth a visit.Helpful 33Thanks 16Love this 39Oh no 0 - Jul 28, 2024
Chelsea Market was the beginning of food halls in New York City. I'm sure you already know the history of the market, the current owners of the market, and even the tenants. This is iconic for any and all tourists, new and old residents, and such and such forth. The only people I can imagine dreading this is the people forced to work in this building, but COVID's probably changed some of that, right?
When you pass by all the people, you'll run into eatery after eatery; shop after shop.... even a bar or few.... but overall bustling and fun vibes. I couldn't tell you where to eat, but it almost just seems best to pick something that piques your interest and run with that choice. You really can't go wrong. Don't worry about the price too much.... that's not the reason you're stopping here to begin with.
Unlike many of the food halls built from the 2010s and onwards, Chelsea Market maintains the original charisma and isn't mired by the obvious corporate feeling. I actually recently stopped by after a long while. I managed to get some work done in here without headphones. The public wifi did the job for me. Sure, there aren't any chargers, but that may be for the better of everyone. I do like how they not only have the main seating area near the steps, but also small couches scattered across the market.
Make this a planned visit or just stop by if you have nothing else to do in NYC.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 17, 20242 check-ins
I have visited this place a long time ago. Last week was a surprise for me. Lots have changed for the better.
Variety of food, stores, drinks and snacks. And the best part is it's indoor.Helpful 6Thanks 1Love this 6Oh no 0 - Jul 7, 2024
Great place with small shops and tens of restaurants for all tastes. It can get busy, rather very busy most of the time; so plan in advance.
Most restaurants are first come, first served.
Good value places and great, amazing flavors and choices.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 14, 2024
I love these type of markets when traveling. There's always food to make everyone happy.... or just to binge eat. We pretty much stopped by almost every other spot, so I'm doing a bulk review here.
It was quite crowded when we went, but that's always been the case every time. We stopped and had some coffee, doughnuts, noodles, etc. and ultimately ended up at Le Song for drinks, then for more food. We stopped by some shops and did some window shopping, bought some souvenirs to bring back home. The prices aren't cheap, but the flavors are on point.
Definitely worth a walk through....especially on a rainy day...or if you're with a group of indecisive people!Helpful 9Thanks 2Love this 8Oh no 1 - Pamela L.North Brunswick Township, NJ815413577Jul 7, 2024
This is one of the best indoor food markets we've ever been to. With over 6 million national and international visitors annually, this is a must stop in NYC. It is owned by GOOGLE whose's office building is right across the street.
Open from 8am to 9pm everyday, it was already bustling when we got here at 11am on a Saturday. Parking is not easy but we lucked out and found one right away. Pace yourself because you will want to eat at every food stall. Aside from the many eateries, there are plenty of other shops that sell, books, clothing, jewerly, etc. I am just going to mention a few that we stopped at.
1. Very Fresh Noodles - pasta made on the premises, super fresh and absolutely delicious. Every ingredient in the Tingly & Spicy Cumin Lamb and Very Spicy Pork Dan Dan Mian were well crafted. The dishes tasted like it came from China. (Limited Seating).
2. Joey Bats Café - these were better than the ones we had in Portugal. My son and I went crazy for these Traditional Pastéis de Nata. It's eggy and not too sweet. I could eat 4 of these in one sitting (they ship nationwide).
3. Sarabeth's Bakery - Famous for their sourdough bread. We got a Turkey and Avocado sandwich and OMG, it was all about that sourdough.
4. Pearl River Mart - you can get the cutest and most unique items here. Super fun to shop at. We saw peach and blueberry Pocky Sticks.
5. Kimbap Lab - we got the Spicy Pork and it is generously filled and tasty. A 10/10.
6. I got to browse around one pop-up shop that had different jewelry vendors. I love collecting custom pieces. Don't be afraid to haggle a little. I'm happy with the two rings I purchased. Jeweler: Marina Pecoraro.
7. Los Tacos No. 1 - this had the longest line (there are other locations around NYC).
I would suggest you come as early as possible. We actually went back after visiting the Whitney Museum and it was unbelievably crowded at 3pm.Helpful 56Thanks 20Love this 57Oh no 0 - May 21, 20241 check-in
Old NYC Nanisco factory where they used to make oreos! It's since been repurposed as an upscale food hall and shopping area.
There are two floors with some lower end eating options downstairs. It gets really crowded on weekends so choose your line wisely. It's perfect to come on weekdays outside of normal eating hours and skip all the lines for all the coolest places!
There is a makers market for local artists inside which I like to look at but be weary that many of the places are a rip off and charge too much for what they are making. It does feel a bit like a tourist trap so be picky about what you are going to buy from here. I love supporting local artists but I find that this is one of my least favorite locations to do so.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1190157May 25, 2024
Love, love, love!!! the Chelsea Market!
Yes It may get a little crowded at times but there's such a great ambiance here and you can spend your time here feeling not rushed like most of Manhattan.
The lower level is where you can find the Artechouse, restrooms, a few restaurants, a larger seating area than up on the first floor, and a few more specialty shops for things like cheese and hot sauces.
The top floor holds a cute floral shop, a bookstore, some clothing stores, and plenty of food options for whatever you might be in the mood for.
One of my favorite's here being the Lobster Place.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 18, 2024
People love this place. Not so much me, but o understand the appeal. Lots of restaurants and small shops. Lots of snacking types of shops. Cool decor.
But crowded as heck. And kind of that bougie vibe if you're into it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 17, 2024
Great indoor market with a variety of international shops (Italian salumeria, Ethiopian, Sri Lankan, Mexican seafood, Italian pizzeria, Middle Eastern tahini and halva, etc.). You can do a food shop here, go for a clothing or gift shop, or come here just to dine in one of the many restaurants. The market is very large; just as large as a typical shopping mall. You could spend an entire day here. On a bad weather day, you could hide out in here.
