Very clean and equipments are always fixed when out of order. Staff for the most part are friendly. A few have egos and judge-y attitudes. Something new
at the front desk they have the class schedule listed on the screen. They still have the packet of papers version. It would be nice to have them online too just to save paper. I noticed that GNE club does not have their own website. It would be a great idea to have one just to showcase the trainers and their employees. Plus they can also provide special holiday schedules for those who are not aware that there are holiday schedules. I mean I get it, life is crazy busy and you forget what day it is. You arrive at the gym just to find out it is closed for x days.
I love that there is free wifi so I can watch my shows. I love their classes, but I wish some classes were during the PM or weekend. Like barre would be fun to try, but my nursing job is in the day and PM shifts. Unfortunately no classes on the weekend, but there was a boot camp class on Saturday. I think it got cancelled. I love going during the weekends because there is not much people using the gym. I love that there's free fruit. $40/mo I wish the hours were longer or even 24 hours. I would so be here rather than 24 hr fitness. At least here employees actually work not like at 24. They seriously need a class in the art of organization or 5S lol. So GNE club employees thank you for keeping the gym clean and safe.

Best gym ever! It's free if you're FTE, and I think contractors pay a subsidized monthly fee. Location is convenient, since it's right in main campus. It's easy to sign-up & front desk staff is very helpful.
I love the facilities! Three floors of work-out equipment and a basketball court as well. My hubby & I both work at Genentech so we love to use this free gym. I mainly occupy the treadmill & stationary bike. Hubby used the treadmill & weights room a lot. Even during busy hours, they will be a machine available since this gym is only available to Genentech employees, making to exclusive from the public. They also have water stations at each floor.
The changing rooms and showered are separated by gender. I love the showers!! It's always very clean and shampoo/conditioner/body wash is supplied, and also towels. They have lockers for your clothes too, just gotta remember to bring a padlock.
Additionally, on the ground floor, they have snack/drink bar too. My favorite gym of all time!!

Can't really complain with free 99. Club Genentech gym is free for all full time employees. They also do a monthly membership for all others at $40 a month, which isn't too bad considering what they offer.

For a company gym, I was pleasantly surprised at how much this place had. For starters, they have an extensive list of classes that happen before, during and after work hours. Classes range from yoga, spin, zumba, abs, cardio circuits, etc. They are all free and you just need to walk in/get a number. There's also a basketball court where you can play basketball (duh), badminton, indoor soccer and more. Sometimes the court is closed off for classes though, so just gotta check the schedule.

Like any other gym, they have a crap ton of cardio equipment. Treadmills, ellipticals, stairmaster, bikes... you name it. You can get your cardio in at almost any given time cause there's just so many to use. As for the weights area, it's pretty nice, but leaves some to be desired. There is a double squat rack setup that forces people to look at each other. Kinda awk. At least they have a powerlifting platform with bumper plates! The only problem with that is, as of recent, there is a sign on the platform stating that they might remove it due to noise complaints. Seriously? People complain about grunting and loud noises at a gym? -_- Anyways, the equipment are very well kept and people tend to actually rack the weights in the right place, which makes everything easily accessible.

There are a bunch of trainers here who all know their stuff. They get a little anal about a few things though... One they don't allow the use of excessive chalk because it gets all over the floor. They asked me to clean up chalk on the ground before even though it wasn't mine. wtf?
Another thing is that they don't allow recording in the gym. I don't get why. I saw a bunch of people recording and when I did it, they asked me to stop cause it's not allowed. Idk.

Overall, pretty cool gym for employees. Can't wait for the new spot to open up on campus though.

"The Hub" which has club Genentech, wellness center, juice bar, and zen garden. The things you need for total mind, body, and spiritual care. Reminds me of ultra sport minus the indoor wall climbing, pool, and indoor track. The locker rooms are helllaaaaa nice. The sauna and steam room are clean as fcuk. 1st floor has your mini store, locker rooms, chill area, concierge, massage therapy, IT bar, and energy/juice bar. 2nd floor has your cardio machines galore! Check out the jacob's ladder machine, unleash your inner super hero skills. Get your Spiderman/cat woman feels on. 3rd floor has your weighted machines, diverse assisted and free weights. You also have stretching machines to help with your flexibility. I couldn't help but geek off. Sad that there is no dead lift area. Guys learn from 24 hour fitness in Millbrae and not drop the weights. I noticed people doing this at this gym. Let's respect the place and not ruin it for others. Love that it is spacious and has circulated air. It gets pretty hot during sunset, and that is during busy hours too. I haven't checked out the classes at this place, but the classes at the old gym were pretty badass. 360 scenic view of our beautiful Bay Area. How inspiring is that? Each floor you need to badge in upon entering. 4th floor I believe is the health and wellness area, and a zen garden. Genentech you really take care of your employees! I wish hospitals did the same for their nurses, doctors, cnas, hhas, and pcas. That's my opinion tho, but lucky for me even tho I am a nurse I get to reap the benefits since the hubby works here.

As a company gym in the Bay Area, I really can't complain much. The large majority of people who come here are Genentech employees, though it's difficult to really tell.

This gym offers multiple classes a day including spin, boxing, cardio circuits, yoga, zumba, bollyx, etc. - there really is something for everyone. Granted, the times might not always work out for people since they're spread throughout the day. Regardless, I've seen many of the classes packed with people and often require a signup list just to get in. The trainers really like busting your butt and will often hold classes on the basketball court. I've seen the exhausted faces of my coworkers but also the satisfaction that they had a good workout.

There are plenty of your standard cardio machines like stair master, ellipticals, and treadmills, though they could add a few more standing bikes. However, space in general is the limiting factor, both inside and out. Luckily, a new gym will be opened to allow for more stretching space and locker rooms.

The weight lifting area is also fairly complete given the amount of available space and includes three squat racks and a powerlifting platform - which is pretty hard to come by, even in your large 24hr Fitnesses. The free weights are particularly nice since they have 2.5 lb increments up to 30 lbs and caters well to those who can't increase their increments too much. When the gym gets busy (ie. 11:30-1:30 and 5-6:30) it can be tough to get on equipment or a bench, but people are often pretty open to working in sets. Scattered around the edges of the space are also a variety of lifting machines as well.

Overall, pretty great for a company gym and looking forward to when the new space opens up.

The gym is a fair size offering a variety of equipment and classes for blue badge employees to take advantage of. There is also a basketball court...which can be a little tight on space at times, like during the March Madness event where different departments go head to head. Outside of this, there are also a variety of club sports that go on throughout the year that you can join. All these programs really allow you to network outside your department on a less professional scale.

Note: $40/mo for red/green badge employees. And there is apparently another gym blue badges can take advantage of somewhere in Burlingame.

So I've been coming to some version of "The Genentech Gym" for over 12 years, since the Schoeber's days. This is by far the best iteration of the Genentech gym yet, and I think it owes it's level of excellence to a great staff.

Club Genentech (GNE) has all the amenities you would expect find at any other gym: exercise classes (at last count a ridiculous 25 different classes!), various cardio machines (treadmills, stairclimbers, stair steppers, rowing machines, , free weights, weight machines). That's baseline right?

Well Club GNE takes the baseline and then adds more to take it to the next level. There is also a basketball court, a studio for spinning, a studio for boxing, there are knowledgeable personal trainers, a sauna, a steam room, they offer massages, they have towel service, and complementary daily fruit.

All this is complimentary (personal training and massages are not complimentary) to GNE employees (Blue badge only; sorry :\). Contractors and family members can join for around $40/month, not too steep a price considering I used to keep a $32/month 24HR fitness membership (the Gellert location couldn't carry Club GNE's jockstrap) just for the hours and holidays.

The gym is conveniently located for it's customers at a location central (more or less) to the sprawling SSF campus clientele. Shuttle service runs throughout the business day and can take you from the various GNE building to the gym and back. Anyone remember when the shuttle would only run between 11 and 1:30? Things have certainly improved.

Like I said before, the staff is great. They keep the gym in tip top shape: the gym floor is always clean (okay the guy's locker room wreaks but chalk that up to the poor decision of installing carpeting in an area where bare sweaty feet would be the norm); and the equipment is regularly maintained.

Though my usage of the gym is pretty basic (treadmill, free weights) I can appreciate the lengths the staff goes through to keep things fresh and new at Club GNE: they bring in new classes (Moms in motion, Zumba, Olympic Lifting), bring in new equipment (that funky you-supply-the-power treadmill I love but was intimidated by initially), organize and maintain programs like the walking and running groups, team sports and also organize fun events like the Annual Genentech Games. They also do things to help people stay motivated like posting inspirational quotes on the monitors around the gym, posting healthy recipes in common areas, and praising people in their "member spotlight". I think they also do a lot to inform members, recently developing and posting a set of videos on their website (which is pretty complete and informative by the way) to help members with things like stretches to relieve office related stresses (to prevent repetitive stress injuries), and gym basics like basketball basics, and effective use of boxing hand wraps.

Please don't be this freaking jackass!

They have a sign that says $40 and month for non members...those who do not work for Genentech, however when I called they said their gym is for Genentech employees only. How miss leading!

Good: Clean (generally), well-equipped, not too crowded
Bad: reception staff is more interested in their YouTube views than anything else
Ugly: Please, somebody replace those towels.

Tons of classes and sessions to choose from! Just to name a few....
      -Keiser Circuit
      -Body weight boot camp
      -Cardio Ab Blast
      -Zumba
      -Cardio Dance

Trainers and staff are friendly and resourceful!

Well-equipped with cardio machines and the frills for weight lifting/strength training - but be warned, it gets busy during peak hours (11-1pm and 4-6pm) and you may end up having to wait for certain machines...treadmills and elipticals typically get occupied most quickly I think...the gym is spacious though so you don't end up feeling cramped ever...

Showers and locker room are kept clean at all times but smells funky at times....SWEATY GYM SOCKS for sure...ewwwww, maybe use something to mask that out and I'd have no complaints....

There is an indoor basketball court that gets converted to badminton courts (on tues) for those interested...

Overall an excellent gym that caters well to Genentech employees....I'd highly recommend one to take advantage of the facility!

Ps: I love the complimentary fruit they give...healthy snacking after a good workout :)

I have been working out at this gym for the past year. I like that it's always clean and very new and modern equipment to workout on. I noticed the font staff isn't always that friendly but when I go on Saturdays or Sundays I see the Best staff member there ( Francesca) She is super cool, friendly, sweet, and down to Earth. When I get a chance I like working out here because it's low key and good parking.
