Complete Tree Care

My wife hired Matt Bowman of Complete Tree in Berkeley to trim a very large oak tree in our up-slope  backyard.  The tree had not been trimmed in years and had several dead branches.  The tree overhang our fence and covered some of our neighbor's yard as well.  Matt gave us a quote for the work, which was less than other competing quotes.  His large crew, which was guided by a worker, who I believe is Matt's son, did a great job!  They were very careful not to damage other foliage in our backyard or our neighbor's backyard.  They did a complete job, safely, without disruption and on budget.  There was a huge amount of debris, which they cut up and hauled away, without leaving a trace in our yard or on the street.  I commend this company and recommend them highly.

For the third time we have had Matt's crew do basic prune and trim. The sycamore need pollarding and other trees were hanging into our neighbor's yards. We got a cost estimate last Fall, and work was scheduled this January when the leaves were off the trees. We had good communications throughout the process. A crew of workers showed up on time. Very pleasant folks. Did a great job with everything we had agreed on earlier. The crew leaned up and left. The invoice was emailed the next day as agreed. Job done. Couldn't be happier.

Matt reviewed our complicated tree and big shrub issues along the property line with our neighbors. He listened to both of our priorities and provided a detailed estimate.

The work was excellent. Matt supervised the guys and they did an excellent job. Part of the work was redoing a huge magnolia which had been trimmed a few months before--expensively and not what we had asked. The tree looks wonderful now.

Ten years before Matt and crew removed a gigantic deodar cedar before we moved into our home. Wrong tree, wrong place. The work was done so well, no damage to surrounding trees and shrubs and with good cleanup.

Couldn't be happier with the work the crew did on our avocado and cork (Quercus suber) trees. They did a fantastic job, shaping, and cleaning up both trees, and I literally cannot see any bad or obvious large cuts from their work. So impressed. They're a great group of skilled arborists. At the initial consultation, Matt recommended that we postpone the work until fall, when it would be better for the trees, which we appreciated. The crew worked quickly and efficiently and I would most definitely use them again or recommend them to others!

Complete Tree Care has done three jobs for us, one big: removing two large trees, and two smaller jobs, removing some old gnarly juniper plants and a different overgrown hedge plants in another part of our yard.

They did an excellent job all three times. Matt is professional and his crew works carefully but quickly and does a top job cleaning up the work area after they're done. And their price was very competitive. They're busy but they were able to fit the two smaller jobs into their schedule soon after I called to hire them.

Matt has done work for a couple of our neighbors, who recommended him to our next door neighbors to cut down a couple of aging Monterey pines that towered over both our houses. We had been worrying about the closer of the two trees falling on our house, so it was a relief. Before these folks had bought the house last year I had asked Matt to take a look at the pines to assess their stability. This was 3 or 4 years ago and he said that they were reaching the end of their lifespan, but were in no danger of falling. When our neighbors arranged to have Complete Tree Care take down the trees we offered to share the cost because these trees had been a concern for years. In addition to the pines they were to take out several volunteer pittosporums which were messy, unwelcome additions to our yards, prune an evergreen in front and cap some redwoods in the back of their house.

Matt and his crew arrived September 11, w/ a plan to return September 18 to finish. They got to work and took down the pittosporum that was closest to us and the pines, leaving 10 feet of the trunk of the larger pine so our neighbors could have a sculpture created by a local sculptor. They shaped the evergreen so it is now graceful in a way it had never been before. My only unhappiness was that the crew was carelessly destructive of the succulents and agaves I had planted in the front patch over the store drain, trampling the agaves and obliterating a couple of succulents. Granted, they were all small, but I would have expected more care than that. I think I can save one of the agaves; the other is looking pretty ragged. I expected collateral damage to the fuchsias that lived in the patch closest to the pines from falling branches, but fuchsias are resilient and I knew I could prune them back, which I have done.

The work went surprisingly quickly and the crew did a great job cleaning up. When they returned on the 18th they had maybe a couple of hours work left, grinding out the stumps and doing the redwoods. I'm not sure what the entire bill was, but our share was entirely reasonable and I would definitely recommend Matt and his crew.

They did a great job on removing our neighbors palm tree and trimming our Magnolia. We also have a palm tree and they trimmed the dead leaves off in a matter of minutes. And a great cleanup job; looked as though no work had been done when they left.

We've had Complete Tree Care at our property twice now (first time ~3 years ago) to trim a dozen mature oak trees on a challenging sloped hill. They continue to impress us with their quality of work, focus on safety, professionalism, and the friendliness of the entire team.
