I'm a huge Indian food fan, and Davie Dosa was at the top of my wish list on our recent trip to Vancouver. In all of the Indian restaurants I've been to, I honestly do not think I had seen dosa on the menu. I have a lot of Indian friends, and it seems this very much depends upon the regional focus of each restaurant. India is such a big country, and it has so many more varieties of cuisine than we have any idea of in the United States. We know the curries, the masalas, the naan and so forth. Dosa is more important in the South Indian food culture. Davie Dosa definitely has the South Indian vibe, but they also toss in a couple of Indo-Chinese dishes. The big focus here is on dosa, and if you eat here you had better order dosa.
We visited fairly late in the evening on a Thursday night, and had no trouble getting a table. Our waiter was very nice, and they had a good beer and wine selection. I always give bonus points for offering locally brewed craft beer! Three of us ordered three different dosas. We had a Masala (potato), a butter chicken, and a cheese with onion. First of all, the dosa was about 14"-16" wide, bigger than the plate itself. All three were filled with just the right about of meat or veggies and folded like a flat burrito. The dosa was paper thin and grilled to a golden brown. Each comes with three sauces for dipping or pouring. One is a tasty lentil dip, one is a tomato chutney, and the other is a very unusual coconut chutney. Each of those gives you a dramatic difference in flavor as you dip pieces of the dosa. My butter chicken dosa was absolutely incredible, and both of the others got high marks. We did take out a butter paneer curry for a family member who was staying back in the hotel, and she just raved about how good that dish was.
If you're in Vancouver and you like Indian food, this place should absolutely be at the top of your list.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

My son has peanut allergies, so I'm usually very careful with nuts. The server ensured that there were no nuts!
Service was fast! The Butter Chicken dosa was really good, and the shrimp biryani was very moist, not heavily spicy. Really enjoyed my Indian dinner!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Dosas 24 hours!! Yippie!!
To be honest, dosa is a breakfast food for me, as that's when I they eat the in Malaysia, where I lived for 4 years.
Davie dosas does Chennai style dosas, so they're a bit thicker than Malaysian ones (not that you can find those here). They have a great coconut chutney and curry sauce. My go to is the masala, but their Palak paneer is great too.
Try their paneer65!
Loads of veggie options!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

The items we tried were plain dosa, lamb curry and a lamb appetizer. The service was really good and so was the ambience.

This is a great place to go, I come here late at night when I'm hungry. It's always open, the food doesn't disappoint. My favourite is the butter chicken. The service is great! So kind and welcoming.

Food was absolutely delicious. We got lamb vindaloo and butter chicken dosas. Both were incredible. Some of the best butter chicken we've tasted. Super friendly service as well. Highly recommend!

Food was absolute abomination. Idli was tough as a hockey puck, could not even cut it with a spoon. Dosa was not fermented and was from a mix. My wife sent the hockey puck idli back to the kitchen and asked for a pongal instead. What came back was a watery congee. Vada batter was also old and extremely greasy. The food was inedible, we couldn't even eat half the plate. Please spare yourselves. Avoid at all costs.

So many amazing gluten free options to choose from. We started with the veg pakora and Manchurian cauliflower(both gluten free). Both were delicious! We shared two gluten free and nut free dosa (mushroom masala and spinach paneer) which were very good. Our son had the butter chicken and said it rivaled homemade that he has had before. The service was friendly and fast. We highly recommend this place. We
May come back to try the breakfast menu.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alaric S.Burnaby, Canada031Aug 26, 2023
cheese dosa with garlic and cilantro the best!!!!
Very good food, good environment, solid service, staff communicate well, often have advice about city sights and events when asked. Favourite dosa is a cheese dosa with cilantro and garlic, dreamy and good. And the vada yesterday was particularly right: crispy crunchy, the best. Food from DDC is consistent in taste and delivery. And the master of the place is very warm and full in his greetings and attentions and keeps the restaurant to a high standard. Nice wall mural of the Shore Temple in Tamil Nadu, look forward to seeing it in its completion. Chai could be a little more potent. And the life of Davie Street rushes by, also always interesting. It seems Davie Dosa Company has a number of repeat and devoted customers who were as pleased as we were when we ate there. And have continued to return for such good South Indian cuisineHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

It was late evening and I hadn't had dinner yet but I didn't want anything too heavy and happened to see some thing about a dosa. I looked up what was open at the time about 10:30 PM and Davie Dosa came up in Yelp. ITs opem 24/7! Very unusual but welcome for a night owl like me!!!
I always check the bad reviews first and I couldn't help but notice that there seemed some one-star reviews but they seemed like they were just grumpy picky people. Obviously they had different expectations. As the area is more toward college-age / non-family types, this place is about right as it's casual dining and very reasonably priced, but still good for families.
I chose the Dosa of the Day (Monday = Butter Chicken) and had a flute of sparkling wine, Veuve du Vernay Brut. It was fun watching customers as the place filled up and seeing orders come out. I sat in an elevated 2-person booth. Large glass of water and wine came pretty promptly.
Because the Yelp reviews didn't have anything very current with the last menu taken three years ago I decided to photograph all the menus to update the reviews. You're welcome! Lol!
When the dosa came I noticed that it didn't seem as round just a little bit flat in the middle. I don't know if that was because of the butter chicken in the middle or if that was the way the dosas were being made here. My dosa was very crisp and light and was delicious. I
I've had different dosas before and this place is solid, not fancy and not boring What super surprised me were two things: the coconut chutney was unusual and delicious (There's some seeds or some sort of extra spice mixed in which made it much more fun to eat!) and I also love the butter chicken that was inside the dosa. It was generous, tender and tasty although it wasn't as buttery as I was expecting it to be.
The cup of rasam was tasty and went well with the dosa and the tomato chutney was a good contrast from the coconut chutney. This order was just perfect for a late night dinner!
Service was friendly and efficient. A family with two you g girls (one asleep) and some friends came. Though they were seated at first in the central tables when a booth became available they asked if they could move there and were graciously allowed to do that.
For a light meal, this place does the trick. I'll have to return and try the other dosas and dishes!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Dosa connoisseurs can take my review with a grain of salt: I eat Indian food very often but this was my first time trying dosa. On that note, except for an unfortunate but honest miscommunication, I had a good first dosa experience! We were welcomed into the restaurant by very friendly staff and seated immediately on a Saturday evening, 7:30 pm. The staff was very sweet and I believe that the man who brought our dosas was the one who cooked them which is always nice. I ordered a peas masala dosa - it turns out they misheard my order as "beef masala", but when they repeated "beef masala" back to me I heard it as "peas" because I expected peas, so I said yes, and got a beef dosa, which I discovered once I got to the filled part. They were really apologetic about it and made me a new dosa pretty quickly. I could tell that the replacement dosa might have a been a little rushed because it wasn't as golden as the first one. Both were tasty but the crisper dosa was better for dipping.
Onto the food itself. I thought it was a completely satisfactory experience and it was special to me because it was my first dosa, but the flavours were average as far as Indian food goes and there is more richly flavoured Indian food to be had in town. The exception to this was the coconut chutney which was very flavourful and easily the best chutney of any sort I've ever tasted. It's so rare to find things that are supposed to contain coconut that actually taste so strongly of coconut. As mentioned above, my second dosa was a little underdone, but my first dosa and the other dosas at my table were cooked perfectly. The spice levels of the curries all around the table were less than what we were expecting - I always order medium and mine had just a hint of spice, the mild spinach & paneer curry had no heat at all, and the medium goat curry which I did not try was also reportedly more in line with our expectation of mild. I must clarify that the food was not bland, it was just didn't quite meet my expectations of what I know Indian food can be. Despite this, what I did really like that this meal felt very wholesome and healthy, when many Indian restaurants can be heavy-handed on the ghee/oil which leaves me feeling sluggish even when it's delicious.
Really excellent value! The peas masala dosa was $14 which is great for a complete, well-made meal at a sit-down restaurant. Even the most expensive meat dosa is only $19. Very refreshing to see these prices with how expensive it's getting to dine out these days. I would probably want to try other places for dosa before returning here just to see more variety and better understand what dosa is about, but I really liked a lot what this place had to offer. If I lived downtown I'd definitely be inclined to visit more since the relatively affordable prices and the characteristics of the food and nice people make this a place I'd feel good about frequenting.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1Business owner information
