They were the most reasonably priced out of the 5 businesses that responded on Yelp. The technician was helpful, professional, and efficient. It's been a couple of weeks since the service and everything is running smoothly. I highly recommend them if you are having issues with your laptop.

I took my 2017 MacBook Pro in and paid a $30 service fee to diagnose why the screen wasn't turning on. They eventually diagnosed and informed me it would cost $599 to replace the screen with a new (used) one. I agreed. 2 weeks later they said they found another problem and it would be an additional $300-500 on-top of the $599 to fix it OR I could pay $180 (on-top of the $30 service fee) to pick it up as is (with a screen that doesn't turn on). I ended up forfeiting the laptop to them and will never see it again. I definitely recommend staying away from this place.
***Edit*** I should not have to pay $180 to pick up my MacBook. I never agreed to that at any time. That is why I do not recommend EB Computers. I would happily pay $30 (the agreed to amount) but not $180. That's bad business.

We are sorry that is how you felt about your experience with us, from our perspective, it was quite different!
Here are the details regarding your repair:
You brought in your computer on Monday, April 10th, and your diagnostic was completed on Wednesday, April 12th. We consider this a reasonable turnaround time.
Regarding the diagnostic cost, you are right, we do charge $30 for this (which is probably the least expensive in Victoria). You mention that you paid this $30, but actually, you did not.
Your computer was diagnosed with a bad LCD, and the repair was quoted at $599 installed, which you agreed to. Upon receiving and installing the part, we found that your computer had an additional problem with the motherboard. Unfortunately, this wasn't something that we could have known in the initial diagnostic. Because of this, we offered to replace the motherboard below our cost at $200 (a $600-$800 repair usually). We also went out of our way to source an upgraded part for only $300 installed. This had double the RAM (16GB vs 8GB), double the SSD (512GB to 256GB), be one year newer than yours, and had the upgraded processor (i7 vs i5).
At this point, we also explained to you that we did the labour portion three times to be certain in our diagnostic. Once to repair your computer, once to test our part on another machine, and once again to test your part to confirm that it was faulty (it was).
After all of this, we didn't require you to pay the $599 that you had agreed to, we simply asked you to either go ahead with one of the discounted repair options that we provided you or to pay the labour portion of the $599 (which was $180) because we could likely re-use the screen we ordered for you in a future repair.
Despite all of this extra work that we did (without even being asked to, it's just how we do business), you opted to get angry, refuse to pay us anything, and told us to keep your computer.
All that being said, if you still feel that that is a one-star level of service, we can only wish you luck in finding another service provider in the future that will handle your needs better than that.

I was not looking forward to abandoning Win7 on my 11 year old Vaio laptop, but various indicators said I should upgrade. I bought a copy of Win10, and failed to install it, but the guys at EB did it, overnight. Then for my boats (navigation) I bought two Lenovo laptops at 600 each. Good service and good used products. I will be back at EB for my digital needs.

Why am I so keen? Because a new comparable computer would cost me between $1000-$1500.
I can do some of this stuff myself, so I can assess whether I'm getting a fair deal on parts and service. I have bought parts, computers, hard drives and had my machine in for service when it was too fiddly and I was too busy.

It was Brad who suggested to us that our MacBook Pro could be under warranty and could be repaired free of charge. A different store said there was evidence of water damage, and Brad said there was none and we could apply for warranty, which worked, and the computer motherboard was replaced. I have purchased several machines from Brad. Great prices, great service and a nice guy to boot.

Be careful what you buy from these guys - their pricing for some of their used components is outrageous. Went in out of curiosity as they are the closest shop to my house & found a GTX970 selling for $329 - more than double market rates for used card released 5 years ago! The same amount would buy a brand new GTX1660 that would absolutely destroy it in performance. Then we have a core2 gaming computer going for $599! That's a ballsy ripoff if ever I've seen one... good luck with EB's 90 day warranty when your 10-year old, slow as molasses computer kicks it. Check around before you make the mistake of trusting you're getting a fair deal.

To counter your rebuttal, first off the video card pricing... I'm rather surprised you would have something listed for two years and not know what you're selling it for, but OK let's give you the benefit of the doubt on that & say that it was only somewhat overpriced instead of horribly overpriced.
Moving on to the system: As a retailer providing sales and warranty support $200 is not a completely unreasonable price for a Q8200. BUT it should end there. That is an end of life system, a decade old ticking time bomb waiting to fail, not something to dump a pile of hype and "upgrades" into and sell with any expectation of reliability. If it didn't already have a windows 10 license, you would have picked one up for $15 like the rest of the universe - regardless that should be included in the $200 base price. I'll eat my hat if you actually purchased a full retail license for that rig so your argument that it adds $150 in value is patently absurd.
A 120GB ssd brand new (assuming it's not also a "system pull" that cost you nothing) is worth under $30, and again a HDD is expected in the base system. The ONLY component I wouldn't expect at the $200 price point is the video card. $150 is pretty high for a used 1050, but again lets give you the benefit of the doubt - that pushes the system to $350.
I wouldn't recommend anyone buy a 10 year old system for $350, and snarkey bank comment aside it's quite a stretch selling that rig as a gamer, but as poor a value as I find it even at $400 I wouldn't have felt like you were actively trying to rip off your clients. How you justify going to $600 along with the heaping serving of conceit in your response is exactly why I gave you 2 star rating. Before I get in to my response, I'd like to say that I find it amazing what will earn you a 1 or 2 star review online nowadays! People seem to throw them around whenever they think they are slighted in the least. Also, Yelp, c'mon, how are you even relevant anymore? Aren't you just there for people to complain about food??? :)
Regardless Jason, I will treat your complaint as a legitimate one, and address it here!
Your first issue is with a video card that we had for sale. I've checked in to it for you, and it turns out this is from an almost 2 year old ad on Used Victoria where we had brand new (system pull) GTX 970 cards listed at $329. The explanation for that is that the price simply hadn't been updated in all of that time, which is our (minor) mistake. I literally have hundreds of items for sale in our shop, and keeping the price current on this one item slipped past my radar. I'm very sorry if that caused you concern, and I have taken down that ad. On a side note, if you had come in to our shop in recent months, you likely would have found that we don't actually have any left. Also, if by some chance we did and you had pointed the error out to us (nicely ;)), I likely would have sold it to you at a fair price. Go adulting!
Now, on to your second issue. You are correct, we currently have a low end PC gaming tower in stock listed for $599. I think the price is relatively fair, but again, I price hundreds of items, and I could be off by a bit. I'll list the specs here just so we are transparent:
Upgraded Gateway Computer Tower:
-2.33 Ghz Intel Core 2 QUAD Core
-8 GB DDR3 RAM
-NEW 120 GB SSD + 1000 GB Hard Drive
-Nvidia 1050 Series Video Card with 2GB
-Windows 10 OS with Antivirus and Office
-Keyboard and mouse included
-90 Day Hardware Warranty
It seems about right to me, given that the Windows 10 license and the GT 1050 alone are about $150 each ($300). Add on a new SSD and 1TB drive to that for around $100 ($400). This leaves room for the base quad core tower with 8GB RAM at around $200 ($600 total). That's just my quick assessment but if you had been actually interested and offered $500 I likely would have accepted.
Now to address your "slow as molasses" comment. With the brand new SSD, a quad core CPU (albeit older) and a GTX 1050 video card, this computer would be far from that. It would actually be quite zippy and decent at gaming (you can take that to the bank BTW :)).
Lastly, regarding your comment about our 90-day warranty. Jason, IF you had actually become a customer, you would have found out that even outside of our 90-day warranty, we are quite helpful. I literally just had a customer bring back a Macbook Pro a couple of days ago where the board had failed. She purchased it 6 months ago. We don't like to see that happen on computers that we sell so we ended up giving her a full credit ($550) towards a new computer.
OK, I think that I have fairly addressed your concerns?
Whew, that was epic! Sorry to all who are reading, but I do take complaints against my store and business practices quite seriously. We have been a staple in this community for over 10 years now, and I do my best to be fair, honest and provide great computers to my customers!
P.S. For all you fellow geeks out here, here's the benchmark comparison between a GTX 970 and a 1660. It's actually only 15-20%:

First of all, we don't sell broken computers :) Second of all, neither myself (the owner) or any of my three employees ever push customers into sales! It's not how we do things here.
Also, we looked you up in our system and it doesn't appear that you have purchased a computer from us. Are you sure you are not mistaken?
