Q:
When is the best time to go? Would a Monday at 7:00pm for the sunset still be an hour wait?
A:
Hi, yes always try to get there at least 1 hour & half before sunset. That way you can get a good spot, Since there will be a lot of people for the same reason. We went on a Monday around 5pm and it was packed! Hope this helps and have fun!
Sukaidie A.Q:
Are photos allowed to be taken with a dslr camera or just a cellphone?
A:
Camera doesnt matter. But if u want to take a picture in that famous corner, i believe theres a 30 second or 45 second time limit. So u better be ready when its your turn

I've wanted to visit the Edge for a while now. I finally decided to pay the $36 + tax (current adult general tickets are $38 and there is a $2 NY Resident Discount) and go up earlier this week on a 60-degree day. You can buy your tickets in advance online and reserve a time to go up. (Time reservation is necessary since there is limited space upstairs and the popular photography spots can get very crowded, very quickly)
The entrance to the edge is located on the 4th floor of the Hudson Yards Mall (The Shops). There are a few quick-snack shops in the mall which is convenient to grab either before or after your visit up. (Coffee, Magnolia Bakery) Once you get to the entrance, you have your pre-purchased ticket scanned. (I believe you can also purchase tickets on-site as long as there are available time slots) You then proceed to the security area where you go through a metal detector and have your bags checked. Bags up to a standard-sized backpack are allowed up, nothing bigger. be sure to look at their list of prohibited items on their website before visiting.
Afterward you make your way to the photo area (optional) which you can purchase later on the way out. You then walk through a small museum-like series of hallways which has a few interesting facts along with some graphics to show how environment-friendly the Hudson Yards community is. Next, you proceed to the elevator to go up to the top.
The elevator ride up has screens on all sides and shows some graphics. Once you reach the top, you are free to explore. There is both outdoor and indoor sections of the observatory. The indoor sections contains one gift shop as well as two bars/snack shops. You can purchase beer, wine, and snacks there.
The outdoor area is the main attraction though. It offers amazing southeast views including the Freedom Tower, Downtown Manhattan, the Empire State Building and Summit One. The most coveted locations though are the corners. There are three with the southeast being the most popular. Throughout my visit from 5:30 pm through 7:20 pm on a Monday night (during sunset) there were lines to take photos on all three corners the entire time! As you can imagine, there are those who snap a quick photo and move along while others are there taking lots of photos. So be prepared to wait if you want one (or all) of those photos.
There is also the small glass floor area where lots of people are practically sprawled on the floor to get a birds eye view of them and the stree floor, hundreds of feet below.
Photographers, keep in mind that you are surrounded by glass at all times (indoor and outdoor) so reflections are inevitable. You'll have to do some editing in post to get rid of those reflections. Also I found that a lot of the glass had fingerprints/smears on it, likly due to people touching/rubbing up against it all day while taking photos.
Why only four stars? Well I was a bit disappointed in the "experience". I recently visit the renovated Empire State Building which offers an entire floor of museum-style exhibits and much bigger (and complete 360) outdoor views. From the time you enter to the time you return, there are exhibits all around...and for the same price as the Edge. The Edge definitely lacked that and prides itself solely on the those three corner views. I felt that the Edge would benefit social media-type who want to add "that" photo to their resume. It's definitely not for everyone. I do NOT think it is worth it for children...not much to see and definitely not much to learn for the price. I think about $25 s a much more reasonable price, given the experience offered.
Overall I had a good time. I'm glad I got to check it off my to-do list...but I wouldn't go again. I would suggest others (especially those with kids) to research the other observation decks: Empire State Building, Top of the Rock, Freedom Tower and Summit One, to see what they offer before deciding which one(s) to visit.
There are clean gender-neutral bathrooms available. The larger gift shop is on the way out.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Apr 15, 2024
We've always wanted to check out the Edge, because the view from outside looked so stunning. However, after we finally made our way up there, we're not very impressed. Especially after have been to all the other "sky high" view attractions in the vicinity.
The entrance for the edge is inside the Shops. Definitely a fun and convenient location. The shops is an indoor mall, which also made access to the Edge very crowded.
Be aware, line to get in to edge according your ticket time is across the walkway and loop around the center open space.
Once the line started moving, moved pretty fast. Takes about 5-10 min to get to the top.
Top of the edge has a large outside space for customers to walk around and enjoy the views. But the picture spots still need to wait for it.
Inside is spacious and has drinks and snacks to purchase. With great view while you walk around inside.
Like I said, it is a stunning place to visit, but nothing special compare to Submit 1 and other similar skyscrapers.
If $$ permits, definitely good to visit. Do recommend by @winedinenvacayHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - May 18, 2024
Nah nah nah. C'mon now. The Edge is kind of neat, but for $40, not even on par with some of the other lookout views in Manhattan. It looks just slightly lower than the Summit One, because you can see it when you look across the horizon. But it do isn't have any of the cool interactiveness like Summit.
Ok, it does have something called cliff hanger when you are held by a cable and lean backwards, but it's not even over the edge of the building. It's over the rooftop that most people are standing. And there is a small glass floor which is cool to take some pics but that's about it. The attraction is probably 20 minutes of interest tops.
Empire State and Rockefeller are just as good as this; possibly better.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 5000398176054Apr 10, 2024
Edge at Hudson Yards is a building that features an 1,100-foot-tall outdoor observation deck known as "Edge". It's located on the 100th and 101st floors. Edge contains a outdoor terrace jutting 80 feet outward south of the building on the 100th floor. You have spectacular views of Manhattan and the Hudson River.
The Edge is definitely an entertainment spot and tourist attraction. If you want views of the city this is the place to go. I enjoy views from my apartment building so I'm not interested in paying for my city views. I suggest you do like I did and check out the admission and activities at the Edge before you make plans to visit. If you are not afraid of heights I say GO FOR IT!Helpful 25Thanks 5Love this 23Oh no 0 - Ketan S.Medford, MA013Jul 29, 2024
We went here on Sunday around 7:30 PM. It took almost half an hour to go up as there was long line. That was ok given it was weekend, also views from the top were good. But worse part was getting down. We were in line for almost 1 hour because elevators are too small and can fit only 10 people. Also the staff was managing quite poorly as we could clearly see sometimes only 7-8 people getting in. Staff could have easily asked groups of 2-3 to get in but they seemed too lazy/didn't care much. On the other hand, staff was pretty efficient in not letting poor tired folks to sit on the floor or chairs. Never going here next time. My experience with Rockefeller few years ago was way better and I should have stuck with the same.

I'm really confused why this is rated so low here on Yelp because it's one of my favorite views in all of Manhattan! You get a 360 view, from Manhattan, to Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Bronx, Jersey City, Hoboken and more! There's also an outdoor deck area that you don't get at the other viewing areas. As a Manhattan resident, I have gone here over 10 times already using the Annual Pass. For $99, you have unlimited access to the Edge without needing a reservation. So I basically use it as my office on my writing days, a place to relax after going to the gym, or if I simply just want to read a book with a good view. The outdoor area gets a great view of the empire state building, so it's fantastic for photo-ops.
The facilities are clean and the staff are friendly. They have different decorations based on the season. For example, in the spring, they have a small ice skating rink. In the fall, they had a floral display. There's also a restaurant where you'll most definitely need reservations.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 3, 2023
I came here because my partner's mom was visiting from out of town. As expected, it is a true tourist destination.
We bought tickets in advance, but you can also get them when you arrive at the attraction, which is on the fourth floor of the Hudson Yards Shops mall. You have to buy tickets for a designated time slot and they won't let you in prior to that time. However, there is also a long line at the entrance. It's a bit confusing because an employee calls out the ticket times for folks to enter so it's unclear why the line is necessary.
Once your tickets are checked, the wait to get up to the attraction is 45-60 minutes. The waiting line meanders through a well-designed exhibit that explains how Hudson Yards was built as a sustainable, green neighborhood with ample trees, energy conservation, rain water collection, etc.
There are two elevators that take you up to the observation deck. There you can enjoy 360 degree views of the city as well as the Hudson River and New Jersey. The Edge itself is a small section, with an even smaller portion with a glass bottom floor. There was a fairly long line to take pictures at the furthest most point of the viewing deck.
You can buy food and drinks while at the top as well.
Overall, it's nice to visit because the NYC skyline is always gorgeous, but it's not a particularly unique experience.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Jeanette R.Richmond Hill, New York, NY22045Jun 19, 2024
This was an amazing experience. Even though you book a time they don't make you leave. You can enjoy the view as long as you want. Our experience was a little dampened due to the rain. Would definitely recommend the Palmoma, not pictured unfortunately. They put it in a souvenir patron bottle.

This was the highlight of our trip. The views are breathtaking but they come at a cost. While it's similar to the Empire State Building, it's much better.
PRO TIP: If your squeamish when it comes to heights, don't go in!!!
I believe we paid $38 entry per person for what they called "an immersive multimedia experience". Of course Uncle Ted insists we enjoy the moment with champagne. At an additional $17 per glass.
His two boys paid another $180 each to climb outdoor stairs to the top of the skyscraper and hang off the edge.
Thus truly experiencing THE EDGE!
The really heartbreaking part of our trip was when my camera phone did a free fall of 1,100 feet to an ultimate doom below. I need another champagne. 01/24Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Jan 19, 2024
One of the best highlights of our trip! The view from the Edge is just breathtaking. Easy process to make reservations online and it's worth the price! You can simply enjoy the view, take photos, eat at their restaurant, grab a drink, or enjoy a hotdog if that's more your style. The elevator ride up to the top includes a visual that you can watch. It's clear that they care about safety as well. When we visited the glass that you could normally walk over was covered in ice (it was 26 degrees outside), so they weren't allowing anyone to walk over it. The staff members were friendly and they'll be sure to make sure you get a great photo! Specifically the staff member, Mo, was great! He brought the energy that made the experience fun, and made sure we got a photo we loved!

My review might be a bit biased cause I came here for free through my work. But I really enjoyed the views during sunset. I think this is the tallest building I've ever been on (its the 6th tallest in the world). It does get very windy up here. I'm also afraid of heights and could not for the life of me walk over the glass floor.
