On a relatively busy night, we got seated immediately out front (to save us 20 or so minutes.

Chips and salsa and bean salsa was delivered in plenty! So good.

Sebastian our server was very on top of things. Can't wait to come back.

Over time we've found the food tasting even better than last year, the steak in the fajitas is exceptional!

Ambiance is very inviting, and fun. Food is great and very authentic tasting, coming from a sizable restaurant. A+ !

Food was good, would like to go back and try more. Probably for takeout though.
Service was a little slow, but the place was packed.
If you're looking for somewhere to relax and have a nice meal and conversation, this is not the place for you! It is extremely loud. We couldn't hear across the table. We had to yell at each other.
They start off with chips, salsa and bean dip, which is a nice touch. Generous portions for the meals. But left with a headache from all the noise.

I've been a few times in the past years and in the most recent few visits I've noticed a bit of a downfall. The ambience and the restaurant itself is decorated very well. About 3-4 months ago we came to El Tapatio and they had no power due to the weather so we eventually left. Nothing much you could do about that.

So we decided to come back and try it again since we were in the area. We were seated right away even though they were busy as to be expected on a Friday evening. So far so good... they brought us the famous chips with refried bean dip and salsa. 5 Star to that. We all wanted water at first then my wife decided to get a Rasberry margarita... well here comes the downfall of the service... The waiter said it's on special and so we got it. It came in a huge glass with decorative garnishes... At first they brought some small sloppy prepared glass with no garnish. We were like wait, what is this? The waiter said ohh umm idk. We said it should've come like the people sitting next to us had. He agreed and went to get that right drink. (see pic of correct margarita). Then when we ordered our food... my wife ordered black beans and when her food came it was refried beans... My food I ordered the pollo Asado plate and my chicken was dryer the the Mojave Desert! I mentioned both things to our "over friendly waiter" then he began to take passive aggressive shots at us with his comments. We never were rude and were always courteous when we mentioned things that were wrong with our food. We understood it is busy and errors happen. His attitude is what did it for me. So after my wife's food was corrected because he brought her a side of black beans and didn't want to take the plate back. We figured he was gonna get in trouble or something because that's how he made it seem. We just said ok and kept her plate. Thankfully it wasn't an allergy thing. Just personal preference for the beans. Now on a positive note....THE FOOD WAS REALLY GOOD!! Even my desert dry chicken.. lol the rice was like a small pyramid decorated on our plate. We thought that was cool. The service I give 1/5, our waiter could've been more professional without his cheap shot comments. If you were having a bad day, remember you work serving the public don't take anything personal. We didn't. Ambience 5/5. Food 4/5. Bravo to the cooks for making our experience a bit better. Maybe make the chicken more thicker and juicier. I'm on the fence now of ever coming back. I give you a 3 STAR.

Bad service, subpar, unauthentic food. Not great drinks.

Waitresses don't remember your orders and are u available - you'll have to flag a waiter/waitress who isn't even in your area to get assistance.

Went here during the pandemic and it was 3/5, unfortunately it has gotten worse.

      Will not be returning.

Would rather go to R Vida Cantina or Dos Rios Taqueria - both have better food and service, Cantina has much better drinks.

The BEST Mexican restaurant in Citrus Heights!!! Hands down. The chips, salsa and beans start the meal off amazingly. The steak fajitas are delicious as heck. The margaritas are outstanding. The service is excellent. I haven't had an item that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. Sometimes mariachi bands walk through and play music! The ambiance is very colorful and authentic. I can't say enough good things about this place!

This was my 12th time setting here the tonight , I ate her with my dad and stepmom and my husband as a belated Birthday dinner with them. We seat at the bar area at a table, we had good service and our waitress was very nice and helpful as well. The food came out very hot and fresh and tasted great and smelled great to. I will definitely be coming back after the way it went this time it was way better than the 1st time I came to this place with my husband. The staff was very nice and helpful and the restaurant and bar area were very clean and neat as well and same with the bathrooms to.
I would recommend this place for everyone for lunches or dinners or even events or anything with family members and friends. I wish though that they had some more choices for margaritas to pick from and also some craft beers to pick from as well but overall it was a great time.

Came here for our book group and ended up sitting in the bar. They have a great happy hour until 7:00 pm. The atmosphere is very classic American/Mexican. The servers were attentive. We didn't know they had a serve-yourself chips and salsa bar (bean dip included) and the server offered to get it for us. They have good queso on the happy hour menu and we tried potato rolled tacos. The restaurant is large and would easily accommodate a big group.

We were just driving back from Roseville and looking for a Chinese Buffet. The one we found had a line out the door, but El Tapatio was next door and how lucky for us. The atmosphere was wonderful and so was the service. We totally enjoyed our meal and everything to do with the experience.
