My friend told me about this and said we Had to do it, so here we are!
This was very much not what I was expecting for an Adult only event! It was a Huge area of, strange contraptions, gizmo's and gadgets, and wacky creations! All just out for people to enjoy!
To be honest it was Very overwhelming with just how much there was!
There was things you could interact with, things to just watch work, things that you press a button, it was all so crazy!
I cannot even begin to describe all of the crazy things that were here, especially as it's not a place I myself would have come to, but I'm very glad I came!
It's a very "Oooo what's that" kind of experience and there's not actually a whole lot to...do for lack of a better way to say it. But it was a hell of an experience! High recommendation from me!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sam A.Benicia, CA314867393Feb 27, 2024
Hey, if you've never been here before, I bet this is pretty cool.
If you grew up going to the exploratorium as a kid on field trips, then you realize the night time version is basically no different other than cocktails and a DJ.
It is first date central here, because it's a good place to hang out, chat, and play with the interactive exhibits.
But if you've seen it all before, then you've seen it all before lol.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 12896258Jul 23, 2024
Such a fun experiment! I really enjoyed it after Dark. It is a very couples-type place or a group of friends hangout! The staff are sooo friendly and helpful. My only warning is that you would want to wash your hands a lot! A lot of touching in this exploratorium. Again, luckily it's all adults soo no kiddie hands touching things... i would bring your own personal hand wipes and/or sanitizer. They do provide a couple throughout the exhibit though. I just felt it could have had a little more.

The exploratorium is a great way to spend your Thursday night whether with family, friends, or significant others! I personally went with my family and it was a great time! There's a parking lot out across the street that you have to pay for, but we parked at the parking structure near Pier 39. I got free tickets for the four of us since I had my EBT card, so make sure to use it if you have it!
The whole place is filled with tons of interesting and immersive exhibits, so much so that I still don't know if it's possible to get through every exhibit in just the four short hours that you have there. Based on our family, I think it's great for all ages (18+) as there were different exhibits that piqued our interest and allowed us to have a lot of fun in the process! No matter who you're with, there's a lot of exhibits that feature mirrors or photo opportunities that I recommend seeking out to make digital memories for that night.
Definitely going back to get through the rest of it if possible!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - 41876293Jan 21, 2024
The Exploratorium After Dark was truly a one-of-a-kind opportunity that allowed me to geek out like a young kid and learn so much about science and San Francisco. I loved going into the Tactile Dome (a surplus charge) but a great way for you to relinquish all of your senses and just explore a pitch dark dome. You can't see anything as you walk/crawl/feel your way through the area. This was so funny for me since I would swear that I was going the right way and wouldn't be. The remaining exhibits in the Exploratorium were so cool. From waves to lights to swings, everything was incredibly interactive and even more fun. There is also so many exhibits that getting there early is definitely recommended. An amazing date spot and an even better curiosity place. Looking forward to going again.

Fantastic spot for date night and group dates! It's really nice that they have 18+ nights so that adults can enjoy and embrace their inner curious child without having to deal with actual children.
One of my favorite exhibits and activities they had was the Tinkering exhibit. My boyfriend and I are big DIY-ers, so it was very fun to play around with different objects, like LED lights and arduino and dissections of singing toys, like Elmo.
They do a great job of making the entire place very interactive and educational. Wonderful place!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 1685163021215Jan 1, 2022
Last time I attended Exploratorium After Dark was at the old location at the Palace of Fine Arts many years ago. It's just as fun today, even post-COVID era. If you love science, it's easily 5 stars, how can you beat inteactive exhibits, learning and seeing science in action, and spending time with loved ones (especially for date night)... all while enjoying adult beverages! Well I'm not very good at science, but engaging with different exhibits is still entertaining and mind boggling, but maybe it depends on who you come with... I think EAD makes for perfect quality time with a significant other, free of distraction from kids in the venue. And the place is spaced out well, so it didn't feel too crowded during our visit.
My favorite piece is the tornado exhibit which is one of the beautiful and mesmerizing artworks demonstrating a vortex of water that actually occurs in everyday tasks, like stirring liquid beverages.
Unfortunately, some exhibits were closed due to the pandemic, and there were not a whole lot of drink choices through Seaglass Restaurant (your only option here). Also, affordable parking is almost non-existent. Otherwise, I'd definitely give this place 5 stars... I'm always looking for something "different" to do, and this certainly fits the bill.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Yesenia V.CA, CA031May 2, 2024
It was great lots of HANDS ON lines are a bit long for the activities but the bigger kids (8yrs ) perhaps would enjoy more.

Oh the fun! As adults, I don't think we had more fun at a museum learning, playing and exploring as we did here. Some locals told us about this place and we decided to check it out.
There was a DJ that was really good. A dance floor. Alcohol and lots of interactive installs that made for hours of fun. More museums or learning exhibits should take after this concept "After Dark". I'm from DC where there are TONS of museums. None of this After Dark concept. But if they did, its would be a hit.
I'd like to explore this the next time I come to SF as I'm sure I didn't get to check out everything the first time.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 1 - Arnold M.Hayward, CA5842123Feb 4, 2022
I absolutely love this place! I've been here at regular times but this was my first time experiencing the "After Dark" times and it was awesome!
If you're looking for a place to hang and do science stuff (lol) with friends, a date, or solo like I did, this is the place to be.
It was only $20 bucks to get in and you get full access to all of the different exhibits. The Seaglass restaurant was open and served drinks and food!
The staff there are extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Shout out to the team that did the cow eye dissection! They were very cool about me live streaming my experience there and my viewers enjoyed the whole trip.
Would definitely recommend After Dark since you get to experience so much for such a low price. Amazing place.
I would post more pictures but there's only so much I could post!!!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
