My car broke down late at night and it was rough. Even though it was pretty much past work hours, Mike still came out to help me and was able to get my car to his shop. If he hadn't come, I would've had to leave my car overnight in a city I live over an hour away from.

The issue with my car was diagnosed promptly (failed alternator) and other problems were pointed out. I was given the option to opt in or out of different services. I appreciate Mike's kindness and fair attitude. Plus, my car is working great again!

Besides providing prompt care & fair prices, Mike was just a good example of what it is to care for people. Even though I was a total stranger, he went out of his way so that he could save me time, money, and stress. He'd easily be in business regardless of how far he goes out of his way- this just goes to show he really does it because he has a good heart. Thanks Mike!!

A few things NOT mentioned in other Yelp reviews regarding Extra Care Auto and Body Repair: I picked up my 1999 Honda Accord EX (160k miles) from Mike (8/27) after eight days since it was left. The car was left on a Monday to be inspected for a leaking water pump. I agreed to wait until Friday to have the car returned, since I had my second vehicle in the meantime. No big rush needed. We had already discussed the importance of changing out the timing belt (usually done at same time as water pump, because much disassembly is required for both of these items), and the belt was due anyway (150-170k), so I got the estimate, and approved the work to begin. Moving along, more items were added to the list, as Mike undertook a safety inspection that determined that there were 2 bad front brakes, and nearly bald tires. Engine oil did not look badly on dipstick, but had been in the car 2-3 years, so it was imperative to do an oil change, as well. Mike has a goal of releasing an owner's car in safer condition than when it came in. My vehicle was a victim of deferred maintenance, so I was already aware of the safety deficiencies that Mike had accurately pointed out. AAA used to perform thorough $50 safety checks years ago. No more. I was actually delighted that he resolved these issues, as no other mechanic in recent memory, has ever uncovered unrelated mechanical issues, and pointed them out to me, as he did. Bravo!
Skipping Saturday, and Sunday, I only waited an additional two working days for all that additional work, that now insures I have a reliable car to last at least 100k miles or more (10 years, at 10kmiles per year) until 2034 when it becomes a 35 -year- old car). My last Honda (1983 vintage) lasted 250k miles.
For no extra charge, he found a code to enable the non-functioning car radio, and replaced the worn wiper blades (another safety item) to insure the upcoming rainy season will be accident-free. A big shout out to owner Mike Rosen, Jim, and Dennis (the three that I talked with), and the rest of the staff at this unique San Bruno car repair facility, with posted hours from 7am to 11pm, M,T,W,T,F,S,S! Over 30 years in business!

Authentic, friendly, communicative. They're going to be my go-to shop going forward.

I've had my mix of good and poor experiences with mechanics (dealership and not) in the past. I can confidently say that Mike and team provided an exceptional experience.

They promptly responded to my texts and I was able to drop off my car the same day. They walked me through what they were going to do, any initial assumptions, took the time to elaborate on why they believed the initial assumptions, and then were incredibly communicative on what they learned before providing a recommendation. I truly appreciated the authenticity and transparency.

Mike is standup guy, possibly the last honest mechanic in the bay?

After having a horrible experience with a dealer a mere block away from his shop he spent the time to illustrate why I had been served a bill of goods and quoted way too much for scheduled maintenance that included several services I didn't need.

For years He has continued to provide my family with straightforward advice and service for how to best keep our cars rolling down the highway. Today after not sure who else to go to he quickly fixed an issue I was having with my much loved and well worn inline hockey skates and refused payment!

If I could I would bring him my home appliances when need to be repaired but I'm afraid to risk getting him running me out and refusing to work on our cars!

I don't recommend bringing your rollerblades to him but if you want a no-BS estimate on car repair and a resonbile bill once he's done working he's your go to guy!

My 2018 Hyundai Sonata began to shake while driving so I called Mike. As always, he was friendly and accommodating and allowed me to bring the car right in although I suspect he was pretty backed up at the moment I called.

Mike and his team gave stellar service as always. Something I really appreciate is that Mike calls me every step of the way and explains exactly where we're at in the repair process and details all of the various options I have. It's evident through his actions that Mike always acts with his mind on the financial impact of every potential action during the repair process and does everything he can to save my wife and I money. I was also grateful that he provided me photos of all he did throughout the repair and was patient enough to bear with me through detailed explanations of technical automotive functions of which I have minimal knowledge if any and never talked down to me but took the time to make sure I understood what he was saying.

It turned out that my car was shaking due to carbon buildup in the engine (a common issue in GDI engines like the one in my 2018 Sonata). The exhaust and intake manifold had to be dissected so that the carbon could be cleaned, and I elected to also receive a valve job to ensure maximum efficiency and longevity.

Mike and his team changed the oil and even washed my car before giving it back to me and I can tell you it was not the shop's fault my car was dirty, I brought it in that way. These are just some of the ways "Extra Care" lives up to their name by going the extra mile.

If anyone I know is looking for a reliable and trustworthy team of mechanics who do quality work and treat their customers well, I recommend Extra Care every time.

Be alert avoid this place if you have. A classic Mustang this place it's not
Mustang brothers Mikey took my car and said he'll fix it the way they used to with mustang brother charged me over $17,000 for a miserable job on my car (the only complete thing on my car it's the windshield that wasn't there ) everything else it's incomplete and I dedicated to pay him because he seems like trying to keep my car for himself when you work for people before you work you should mention how much will be for example before I do a haircut if the don't ask I say the price how much is gonna so people agree or not I was never informed before doing the work that it was gonna be 17,000 dollars big mistake on my part trusting someone I didn't know well I knew the old traditional Mustang brothers not this place be careful you'll be better of doing it yourself avoid a headache

As my car is aging, I felt the need for honest feedback regarding necessary repairs. After conducting extensive research on mechanics in the area, I discovered several highly recommended ones. Aside from the very long history of very positive reviews, one thing I particularly appreciated was the ability to communicate with them via text, which allowed me to quickly gauge their availability to assess my car. They even allowed me the flexibility to drop off my car later in the day as I am usually stuck at work till then.

They performed an oil change, which was due, and conducted a comprehensive inspection to provide me with a clear understanding of required and unnecessary repairs. While other places emphasized the urgency of brake replacement, they assured me that my brakes were still in good condition. However, they did highlight other areas that should be prioritized. They physically showed me the problematic parts on my car, explaining their impact and discussing the pros and cons of addressing them.

By delving into such detail and demonstrating the issues, Mike showed that he wasn't attempting to pressure or use fear tactics to sell unnecessary services. Instead, his goal was to enhance my understanding so that I could make informed decisions. He emphasized that the suggested repairs were not urgent, allowing me to leave without spending an extra $1000 that other tried to get me to spend.

A few weeks later, I returned to have the other recommended work done since it fit within my budget and timeframe. I am confident that I will continue relying on their services for my future car needs. Overall, the service was exceptional, and I sincerely hope they maintain their outstanding approach.

I was so fortunate to have had a really bad car repair business lead me to Extra Care Car Repair, one of the best car repair experiences, l've ever had!
Mike Rosen, owner of Extra Care, couldn't have chosen a better name for his business. His expertise is extraordinary; the man has decades of experience. He somehow managed to figure out what two other car repair shops could not. And apparently, this was no small feat as he had only seen the problem my car was having, two other times in his career!
Something else I found very reassuring:
Mike is a caller. He calls when he says he will, and also, not just to keep you in the loop, but to also check up on how his repairs are working for you. I don't know anyone else who does that. Ever.
My car was fixed in a timely manner, by a shop that truly knows what it's doing, owned by a man with an enormous heart.
I promise you it doesn't get any better than this.

Mike continues to deliver amazing service! My car hardly moved during Covid and suffered from the neglect. Extra Care assessed what was needed to safely drive it and continued to source out of production accessories. It's been great having Mike and his team servicing my family vehicles for 20+ years!

Mike is the most trustworthy and considerate mechanic I've met. I had a unique issue with my car that was preventing it from passing smog, and Mike worked with me for over a month to help solve the problem. He was communicative and honest throughout the entire process and took the time to explain things to me in detail.
