Flywheel Taxi

I called, got cancelled on; new driver was found, he was great; after grocery shopping called for a ride home, got cancelled on.

Taxi drivers - don't complain if you're not getting the business if you are going to keep cancelling. I would prefer to support you, but I can't when this happens continually.

I took a taxi from SFO and gave them the destination address in writing. It was in Richmond CA. They took me to the Richmond District in SF. I told them it was wrong and finally I got to my destination. The cost was astronomical. I called the headquarters and they would fo nothing about it! Be very cautious before you hire them.

After years of service I needed to change payment methods so I wanted to replace the expired debit card with a new one and their mobile app was not working -- was not allowing that option. The message from customer support was that someone would respond within 48 hours and that message was not an "auto reply" but was from a person. I resent my original request for help a few times but after two weeks I just deleted the application from my phone . In summary there is no customer support any longer .

I write to praise Flywheel Taxi and to offer a warning. I was ripped off. You might wonder, well, why would you then say something positive. I'll explain.

I fly lots. In 2023, I logged more than 100 flights. The route I take most often is from New York City to San Francisco. I land at SFO, then take a cab to a residence in the middle of the city. I try to support an industry under challenge from ride share services.

Last night, which was the Sunday before MLK Day, I rode with a driver who, when we arrived, showed $54 and change on the meter, and I said, well, add $12 for the tip. The driver had difficulty with the math. I say that not to disparage him. It is why I remember this so well. I said, that means $66. It was just before midnight. I was tired (I'd slept on the flight, woke up for an hour, then went to sleep promptly once I was in the bed.)

This morning, I had a Flywheel receipt. It was for $78. So you can see what that means. The driver added $12, but to the $66 and not the $54. I try to be generous in spirit. That is not just to be principled. It also is out of fear of karma. So it is possible he was confused and did not deliberately rip me off, but instead, it being late at night, just made a mistake.

I contacted Flywheel via email. The reason I want to commend them is I had thought, well, I'll never hear back. To the contrary, a human being replied within an hour, indeed in less than half an hour. That is much better customer service than many companies. (I got the runaround from a bus company that runs the express service to Newark airport; their phone system keeps you on hold and then drops you, and I tried it a half dozen times, because I'm stubborn.) Furthermore, they had an explanation that was plausible. It accords with what I observed. They said, they could do nothing because Flywheel was merely the processing service. The driver used Square. The ride was not booked through their app. They have a whole system. (I'd be drivers using Square do so for various reasons, perhaps not all of them the best.)

The word to the wise, then, is something I have reminded myself: you have to double check the driver's phone if they are entering the digits themselves, then presenting it to you for signature (or not even; sometimes it isn't needed).

If I could give zero star, I would. My hotel got me this taxi to the airport, and the driver and I was engaging in a casual conversation of how he moved to San Francisco and his career paths and all. Then he talked about how his ex-girlfriend's vagina looked different from general prostitutes' vaginas. I told him it's very inappropriate and I didn't wanna talk about somebody else's private body parts. BUT he did not stop. I had to yell at him several times to make him stop. if I were not on the highway, I would've jumped out of the car. very bad experience. i left a review when they emailed me, but the taxi company didn't give a damn about it. If you're a female planning to use their services solo, reconsider.

I've never actually taken a Flywheel, nor will I ever as I value living. Based on how they drive around the city, anyone that wants a guarantee to safely get from point A to point B should probably look elsewhere. Hope to see Flywheel's and their horrendous drivers off the roads ASAP.

I had a terrible driver who drove over 70 mph and at one point took both his hands from the wheel to put on his mask. He was constantly fiddling with his phone and stuff on dashboard. Terrifying experience. Rude driver. Cab #P695 airport to SF noon on 8/15.

Showed up quickly and didn't balk at a short ride. Was pleasant not chatty. Recommend highly

The driver demanded cash. When I asked for receipt he threw a flywheel card out of his window and told me that is the receipt. He then flew off before I could get his car number.
