Fowl+Fare wasn't our original destination, but it definitely will be in the future. The spot we were going to was on vacation and this popped up and I knew we had to go.

As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by two men who clearly love the food here. The cashier was really helpful in breaking down the menu for us. The chef in the back was so helpful and you could tell he really loved what he was making and wanted to make sure it was good for his customers.

My boyfriend wanted light spice so the cashier recommended the lemon pepper with some mild spice added. It was the perfect recommendation and had just enough heat for him.

I was intrigued by the pear slaw on the citric hot and I really enjoyed the balance between the refreshing was of the slaw and the heat of the burger. The chicken was fried perfectly and I was crunching the whole way through.

There are just two tables inside (also two bigger tables outside) and we happened to sit next to a regular who calls this the best spot in alameda. He put us onto the banana pudding, which is a MUST order. The flavors are yummy and the texture is perfect. The portion size is also great because the burger will fill you up so you'll have more banana pudding for later

So this place was very what can I say interesting. Truth me told it's so in the cut with not much signage that we drove right past it. Then we parked and ended up walking right past it.

Sad to say the food was not top notch. The fries tasted old like they fried them earlier in the day and then refried them once we ordered them. We sat outside because it was scorching inside. They didn't have what I wanted which was the box so I settled for the chicken sandwich which was meh. Didn't taste as seasoned as I expected it would. They also had no drink options. If you don't drink Coke or you expect a variety don't even think about it.

Plus they brought our food outside and just set it in the table. My fries were falling out onto the nasty outside table where we had to lay down napkins to keep them from being wasted. They need to use trays or baskets or something.

I feel bad giving them such a hard time but in all truth I am just hoping they make the necessary changes because if not I don't see this place lasting much longer. We more than likely won't be back.

I love fried chicken sandwiches, especially hot ones, so I was stoked to try this place out. Ordered a couple of the citric hot, a couple classics, and an order of fries for the family.
Fowl + Fare is run by a super nice dude, and I'm happy to see new businesses on this side of the island. Their style of hot chicken sandwich isn't really my cup of tea though. It was just too sour tasting for me, but I did think their seasoning worked well on the fries. The buttermilk was decent, but nothing special. Would probably give these guys another try if they offered a more traditional Louisiana hot chicken sandwich.
If Yelp allowed half stars, I'd definitely give this place a 3.5

Small unassuming shop with one person taking orders and one person preparing the food. There's a water station and a fridge if you're interesting in purchasing drinks. Two small tables inside, so not the best for large groups. When we sat inside to eat, we did notice small bugs on the floor...might be because the doors opened and they do have an indoor planter by the wall.

Citric hot - 4.5/5 good amount of heat which is nice since I usually find things to not be spicy enough. I didn't love the lemon flavor, wish there was an option to not have that but my bf enjoyed it. The chicken was not dry at all which I really appreciate. They use dark meat which was a nice touch. I would prob order this one again when I come back

Black Garlic - 4/5 good crispy sandwich, not enough garlic though. I personally didn't taste much garlic when I tried it.

Fries - 3/5 I asked for this to be extra crispy and the person at the counter said they already do their fries extra crispy. It was not extra crispy...came out soft and I didn't really care for them. They're sweet and comes with an aioli for dipping. Costed $6 which is a lil hefty price tag for fries.

Wow! Really good fried chicken sandwiches. Chicken came out crispy and juicy and the flavor combinations were great. The Jamaican jerk had a subtle heat to it (not that spicy) and the jerk sauce was really flavorful but eats a little too salty for me. The charred scallion aioli also added a nice smokiness to it. Would like some acidity to balance out the saltiness like pickles or something.

Citric hot is SPICY, nice heat and good flavor throughout. The pickles in this helped provide some acidity which was nice.

Fries are great too. Very small shop, so dine in is limited. Come support this business!!

Small spot next to an Indian grocery store, only street parking available. There's not a lot of seating inside but there are two picnic benches outside.

No frills. Chicken sandwiches and fries. The chicken is well seasoned, perfectly crispy, and pairs beautifully with the slaw and brioche buns. The fries were nice and the seasoning was delicious.

Note: if you can't handle spice, probably not the place for you because there's a hint of heat in every bite.

Ordered the jerk chicken and lemon pepper an and fries. I rather enjoyed my meal and found the jerk chicken to have the right amount of heat. It was a lil on the salty side for me though. The slaw was good, wouldn't mind having that as a side dish or more in the sammich. The lemon pepper seasoning tastes fresh, like real lemon zest was involved so I'll probably get that next time.

All and all, it's a good small lil spot for a quick thigh meat fried chicken sandwich.

Just tried Fowl and Fare for the first time today! I LOVE fried chicken sandwiches and never knew there was a good chicken sandwich spot in Alameda, so I was super excited to check it out. I got the citric hot chicken sandwich cause we like some spice around here, and girlll it was spicyy! I feel like I have a pretty good spice tolerance and this wasn't unbearable, but the spice overshadowed the flavor of the chicken. It was a mix of a dry spice rub and a spicy oil and spicy aoli with a hint of tang. The pickles and slaw were a nice balance for the chicken and the brioche bun was good, but I just wish I could taste more of the flavor! The fries were good. They had a nice Cajun seasoning similar to Popeyes fries. Overall, I'd come back again, maybe to try some of their other sandwiches, but it's not the best chicken sandwich I've ever had.

If you're craving some tongue-tingling tangy flavors, this is the place for you!

Just when I thought the fried chicken craze was slowing down, I saw this spot pop up in their new location on Alameda's main island just off of Park Street. Hubs and I decided to try it when our Saturday errands ran into lunchtime. The flavors at Fowl + Fare make a classic crispy chicken and dill pickle or even a Nashville hot chicken sandwich seem bland and boring.

We ordered the classic chicken sandwich (which is actually mildly spicy itself), and the citric hot. The citrus flavor was unlike anything I've ever tried, making every bite intriguing. The pear slaw and unique seasoning blend elevate the flavors and set this chicken sandwich apart from the next. Even the fries come with a zesty flair that tastes like a sweetened jerk spice blend. Chef knows what he's doing.

The dining room is rather small, so consider grabbing your order to go. While you're waiting, you can buy a craft beer or two from next door to enjoy with your gourmet meal at home like we did.
