Fred's - your kind honesty (restored? no,) give me faith in automotive humanity. May you be booked solid for eternity. I write this review in full knowledge that I am bumping myself down in scheduling an appointment as the word is already out about how honestly and efficiently you run your decades old business.

      THE BEST. SIMPLY THE BEST.

I used to take my Civic to Art's Automotive, where I received superb service but.... When I bought a Fiat to my dismay I found out that Art doesn't work on European cars. I almost took the Fiat back and bought another Honda so that I could stay with Art! Upon checking out Yelp though I found another garage with amazing reviews - Fred's. Off I went and am so glad I did. How could I have been so lucky to find not 1 but 2 gems in the world of auto repair? Art and Fred? You ARE simply The Best.

I took my Audi Q5 to Freds for an oil change and because my engine light was on. I had previously taken it to the shop at the dealership that I purchased the car from and they advised me that the o2 sensor needed to be replaced for $400+. I opted to wait and based on my girlfriends recommendation, I took it to Freds.

Fred's did their own diagnostic and confirmed the same issue and rather that trying to sell the work, they called me to say that the part is under warranty from Audi and to take it back to them for free replacement. Now that is customer service.

I will now be taking all of my cars to Fred's.

Ps. It would be nice if they washed and vacuumed your car, but I'll let that pass for great customer service any day.

they were able to press in new bearings in a day, awesome! Minor quibble: did not mention "environmental charges" to throw out two bearings. For 10$ I could have easily done that myself and so a $130 bill turned into $150 with taxes and fees. But still friendly guys and got the job done. Recommended!

This is the place to go !!!

Fred's is a medium sized garage that is located just off of 41st and Fraser.
They are a full service garage to take care of any of your vehicle needs.
Harold is the owner, his father Fred was the original owner and son now takes over. His mom is even still there working everyday !!
The service is awesome and attentive, nevermind HONEST !!!
I love this place and will take anything that has an engine to them.
Say hi to Harold and mom's for me next time you go..... won't be disappointed !!

      Great family run business !!

      We love Fred's.

We first found out about Fred's when we heard an opera there. Yes!!! An operatic production in an automotive garage. It was an evening with Opera Appassionata (now defunct *cries*) of Kurt Weil's works titled "From Brecht to Broadway'. The cars were used as part of the stage set up. Very nicely done. From this we came to know more about Fred's garage, their place in the community, and how Fred's son Harold continues to be a wonderful presence in the neighborhood.

Inside their office they have a sign that states:
"Fast, Inexpensive, Good. Pick two out of three"

This in essence states their policies. They are a neighborhood garage, and they aren't open on weekends. During the week they work hard to provide the service for their clients whether it be fixing up an old clunker as part of your hobby, or doing regular service on your auto to keep it running ship shape, or providing you with a repair needed or giving you suggestions on other repair shops that might be more suited to your needs. They work on all types of cars and even work on some real classics and collector models.

Call them up and make an appointment if you need some typical service. They aren't a lube station, so don't go there expecting to just jump the cue to get your oil changed. Be courteous enough to show up for the appointments you book, as they run a pretty tight ship.

They've been helping me get my baby, a 1951 Pontiac Chieftain back on the road. I am determined to be cruising in it by Spring 2012. (Pic: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/pxYw_rAE4J8VC7amWwdUCg?select=eawEOYcX58GC2D0ssvZQOQ )

Highly recommended for honest, dependable service.

I just want to put my two cents in as well. I used to live down the street and took a used purchase to Fred's and they have always been the most reasonably priced and super thorough in any explanation on what needed doing and costs.

      Love them

      Updated review

I've only been there once but they saved me a headache and lots of money. I had taken a used purchase to 2 other places, and they kept suggesting things that never fixed the problem. I took it to Fred's, they charged me $50 for the inspection, but he said in his honest opinion and from his experience it was a head gasket issue. So I got rid of it without losing my money and time. There was a lady in the waiting area, before I left she stopped me and said "I just want to let you know, I've been coming here for 15 years and they know what they are doing". So I would recommend them.

I have taken my car here for over 10 years and am very happy with the service I get. Harold is great and it really is a family business. They have fit me in during their busiest times when I have had an emergency. No nasty surprises and they were honest in telling me it was time to let my old jalopy go rather than face an endless list of repairs that would just prolong the inevitable. I recommend them to my friends and neighbours.
