We are sooo happy that our family has finally found the most excellent family dentist - Dr Josh Froerer!! He is very experienced and skilled with the simple dental issues as well as the more complicated and complex issues. Grandma had a horrible time with our former dentist, and she was so relieved to have found Dr Froerer... he was able to fix all of the problems that she was having! My husband is very pleased with Dr Froerer for his dental care, as well as our 2 year old son. What a personable and skilled dentist if he can have an old Grandma feel comfortable there, as well as a toddler.

I am so thankful to have found an excellent family dentist, who our whole family will be going to for the rest of the years we live around here.

Hands down the nicest, most down to earth dentist you will ever meet.
I needed work done, possible filling or possible crown. I go in and he talks to you, asks about your family, takes his time, cracks jokes with his assistant. Just an all around good vibe.
So he gets me numb and when I say numb I mean my lip and tongue are gone. The most comfortable shots I've ever had. Never felt the drilling, never in any pain AT ALL. So he says, looks ok to put a filling back in it vs crown. Yippeeee I'm super happy:) he's not trying to make money off me, he's honest and very conservative about treatment needed. I appreciate that!
      Would definitely recommend him!!

Have to keep returning for a recurring tooth chip that Dr. Froerer cannot seem to fix properly. Very frustrating experience and the scheduling wait is very long.

What a horrible place they call a "family dentistry." All they care about is how much money they can get from you and/or your insurance. The receptionist lady (Casey?) is so phony and unpleasant. When I told her I was having a sharp toothache and wanted to schedule an appointment, all she wanted is my insurance information. After finding out that they won't get much from my insurance, she said the wait is 3-4 months (for a 30-min appointment), which sounded incredibly unbelievable. I absolutely agree with the previous reviews, they are LIARS! Save your time and money and go elsewhere!

I've gone to Dr. Froerer ( pronounced like thrower but with an "f" for "th") for a few years now. He's replaced a couple of very old fillings and I felt no pain. I really appreciate that the practice has dental hygienists. Fabi cleans my teeth with a variety of methods including hydro-sonic and scraping ( with water) with tools. Again, very little pain and I have sensitive teeth. I highly recommend this DDS and hygienist

My family received amazing, perfect care from Scott Hallsted for more than 3 decades. Joshua Froerer is not Hallsted. Not even close. Keep your guard up. Get a second opinion.

My wife and I have been going to Hallsted and Froerer with our three children since around 2002 (before Josh), and have always received the best customer service and care around (and we've been around). They are like family. I loved the sun glasses that they gave the kids to keep the bright light out of their eyes when they were in the chair, and of course the goody box always kept them under control (no goody if you're not good, but of course they were always good). I hope they still do that. When our son, at age 16, chipped off most of one his front teeth in a biking accident, Josh cleaned him right up and now four years later you would have never known he had any damage (a work of art). He also remove his wisdom teeth with no drama. The bad reviews that I've seen here are outliers based on issues with payment by insurance being mis-represented. At the end of the day it is the patient's responsibility to understand how their insurance plan is going to pay for their service. Yes, it's a long painful phone call, but you picked the plan, so you have to live with it.
We have changed dentists, because our new plan is out of network for this practice, and we know that we'll have to pay 40% for all services (with five of us, that's a bit of a financial hit). We have found another dentist, and everything is covered, but we have had our challenges with them and are rethinking that maybe we should go back to H and F (I wish they'd take our plan: Anthem BlueCross Platinum PPO). Dentists are a dime a dozen in San Mateo County, but good ones that offer quality care with top customer service are not easy to find, so be grateful if this practice is "in network" with your insurance.

      Updated review

Even after talking to the office, they have refused to remove the $70 unauthorized charge for Josh to look at my tongue. I was never told that this was an extra charge.
Simply the worst Bait and Switch operation around.
DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST! THEY ARE LIARS AND THIEVES!!
Every time I go to this dentist, there are extra charges that I was not informed about. The last time I had my teeth cleaned, she asked the dentist to look at my tongue. Less than 30 seconds.
Just got the bill and there is a $71 charge!!!
And they are not backing down!! Even though the insurance paid them, now they want $52.80 from me. For 30 seconds, that I did not request!
Seems like they keep churning up extra charges without consent whenever I walk in the door. I would never have agreed to a quick look and then "Looks fine". And they wanted me to come back for another 30 second look!!
A "free" teeth cleaning inevitably ends up costing over $100 in charges that I was never informed about.
I would suggest that, if you go here, insist on knowing up front what "extra" charges are going to show up without your knowledge.
      I am never going back.
      Unbelievable....

My father introduced me to Dr Josh Froerer and has perfect teeth to prove it. So glad that I now have the best dentist. I came in for braces recommendations and he was completely honest about my options and what would be the best option for my age. He's completely knowledgeable, professional, and very friendly.

I also recently had a teeth cleaning, after not visiting a dentist office for 5 years! There was a lot of work that had to be done, but thankfully there was only minimal discomfort and really happy with the results. They provide you with a way to let them know if you're uncomfortable during the process, which helps put your mind at ease but I never needed it.

The staff also knows my father and often greets patients outside the office. They really do care about you. Strange as it may sound but excited to visit again for the next cleaning.

      Highly recommend!

I would recommend finding a different dentist in the Burlingame area. I went here in March of 2012 because they were part of the insurance network I was covered with. Because this was the very first appointment at this office, and with this dental coverage, I asked them specifically whether the services I would receive were "fully covered," because I did not want to get hit with a big co-pay afterward. Supposedly they called my insurance company and then told me that yes, my services were "covered." Several weeks later I received a bill from them showing that my insurance had only covered about 1/3 of the charge for the xrays and cleanings. I went back to their office and complained about this, and the bookkeeper informed me that she only said the services were covered, not how much they were covered. I asked to speak to the dentist, Dr. Froerer, but he was out. The bookkeeper told me that the dentist would call me to work out the issue. He never called.

I have found the staff here to be dishonest. Find a different dentist.

Dr. Froerer is the best family dentist we've ever had. Here are some things I like about him:
      1) He's honest and does not try to sell dental work to you that you don't really need.
      2) He's super gentle. Even our kids (Ages 4 and 7) love going to the dentist office to see him. We used to try to steer them away from candy by telling them that they have to go to the dentist if they eat too much candy. That totally doesn't work anymore because the kids love Dr. Froerer and they'd eat candy just to get to go see him.
      3) He takes pride in his work and if there is anything he does that you're not absolutely happy with, he'll fix it with no questions asked.
      4) He's a very nice easy going person that makes everybody feel at ease about going to the dentist.

I highly recommend him to anyone. Kids and adults alike.
