Are they still open? I been calling everyday and no pick up.

      A:

Yes they are open. The lines are long which is probably why they don't pick up. Call in when they open to place a phone order.

Amazing food for an affordable price.

I ordered 2 orders of plates if the Hong Kong style fried chicken. The staff is super nice and friendly.

When you enter the establishment it's not the best but the food was amazing. They give you 2 friend pork chop, an abundant amount of rice with fried garlic. And pineapple and one egg for $7.50.

The parking is not the best but you can always order ahead of time and double park.

They close early. But I will definitely come back next time

Why advertise as "open" but are never actually open????

This is the 5th time in the last month where I've called in. I even drove past it once too, to make sure they are really closed. I live 30 mins away and yes, a few times was my fault for rushing over before they close without calling first.

I've called numerous times on Wednesday and also called today - FRIDAY. Update your business hours or set up a voicemail greeting to let customers know you are closed.

Cheap food doesn't equal cheap business ethics. It is very frustrating!

Gateway Kitchen was a spot suggested to me by some friends - they were getting food from here and asked if I wanted anything. I did not physically visit here, so I am not sure about the ambience and service of this spot. The food was affordable / cheap for what you get - most of the meals are about $6 - $8.

My friends ordered a variety of their combos, while I ordered their Jumbo Fried Quarter Leg Chicken, which came with a generous amount of garlic fried rice, a few pineapple chunks, and 1 egg. The chicken was good for the most part, but it was a bit dry. The garlic fried rice was flavorful and went well with the chicken; the pineapple was sweet, which I enjoyed; and the egg was a bit runny like how I usually like / prefer my eggs. I also tried some of my friend's pork chop, which was pretty good - it was very juicy and I did preferred that over the chicken.

Cheap eats is not always good eats. Very cheap platter with very generous portions. Unfortunately the quality of the food fell flat for me. Although crispy, the pork chop was overcooked and dry. The garlic rice was too bitter for my liking as the garlic was burnt and sprinkled atop the large bed of rice. If you're looking for a cheap meal that will fill you up, this might be the place for you. Unfortunately, it didn't hit the spot for me.

Saw the sf eater article on gateway kitchen being the cheapest Filipino fusion restaurant, all cash, say no more I'm trying it.

This is located in Daly City, small Filipino fusion takeout restaurant. It's cash only no credit cards. We called ahead for pick up order.

      WHAT I ORDERED
hk style pork chops (4) it came with garlic rice, egg & pineapple - it was very filling. We used scissors to cut the bone in pork chops to eat
longanisa (2 orders) - so sweet, tender and tasty
      tocino (1)

7 orders, total came out to be $53!!!!! How cheap and affordable for an entire picnic meal!!!!!!!!!

If you know, you know! Great hole in wall spot for Filipino food. Highly recommend the Hong Kong style pork chop, longanisa and tocino! The reason this spot gets 5 stars is because it's affordable and you get an abundant amount of food. Hoping this spot doesn't raise its prices. I always recommend this spot to friends visiting San Francisco. Location is only for pick up, which is a bummer because it would be nice to sit down and eat there!

I was excited to try Gateway Kitchen based upon reviews I had read and posts on Jnstagram. The prices are good but you get what you pay for in terms of the amount of food. I ordered the HK style pork chops that came with garlic rice and I ordered a side of fried shrimp. My wife ordered the deep fried Bangus fish.

The pork chops are very thin so the deep frying caused the meat to be very dry and the seasoning was super light. The Bangus was the same, it was very thin so the fish was dried up from frying. The shrimp were crunchy but also not a whole lot of flavor.

The prices aren't bad, people are very nice and if you need a deep fried food fix Gateway has several choices.

First time here, I'm always at superstar. I been craving for months and months because I live in San Diego now and nowhere does it like them.

I don't like longanisa but theirs was not too bad. I feel like they just boil the sausages and don't cook it any other type of way that I'm used to. What I really wanted was some HK porkchop and that dried fish. Everything was great til I saw a hair in my fish I literally wanted to die but I just took the fish with the hair and threw it away and still ate LOL These pork chops are so small compared to what I'm used to too. Anyway not bad, good value still during this inflation period. Maybe I won't cheat on superstar ever again ;)

I don't know how I have not discovered this place sooner. Sister store to Superstar, Gateway Kitchen is a staple in Daly City. There is a vast selection of Filipino silogs to choose from with great portions and great price. Definitely a bang for your buck.

When I went there, I ordered my ultimate comfort food--tosilog--and it was absolutely delicious. The tocino was tender and flavorful and the garlic fried rice had a nice texture. The egg and pineapple served as good buffers for the saltiness of the tocino.

Service was great. No dine-in and cash only, but you will NOT be disappointed.

It's a hole in the wall kinda place where their prices haven't gone up like the rest, but it's only takeout. I had to do a double-take on their prices! And it seems lots of people are looking for cheap eats cuz there's a line out the door that keeps on going. But they work quickly to get you on your way.

Hong Kong-style pork chops: pretty decent portion and they were crispy on the outside having a light batter keeping the meat juicy. 5/5

Fried calamari: small portion compared to the chops. It reminded me of onion rings but squid instead. Probably won't order that again. 3/5

The sides: Garlic fried rice which was flavorful and plentiful. Trying to cut back on carbs, but I kept eating! The egg was runny which was good, but hidden under the pineapples. Though I think it should be on top of the rice. And canned pineapples were ok. 3.5/5

Definitely gonna stick with the chops the next time we go back! They ran out of chicken leg quarters. So we'll have to try that next time too. It comes with garlic fried rice, an egg, and pineapple chunks. 2 orders and it was around $14! Can't even get one order at most restaurants for $14 much less 2!! Service was efficient and nice. Only took maybe 7 minutes to get our orders. So if you're trying to strrrrretch that dollar, hit up Gateway Kitchen!
