Greenmarket

This Oculus Greenmarket is the tiniest one I've been to, with only 3 vendors. You'd think that with such a heavily trafficked area it would be larger, but I guess not. It's a seasonal market that ended for the year on October 24th; it had been open Tuesdays from 8 AM to 5 PM. These were the recent vendors taken from the Greenmarket website:
- 1857: "Handcrafted potato vodka from Schoharie County, NY"
- Jersey Farm Produce: "Vegetables, herbs, orchard and small fruit from Hunterdon County, NJ"
- Meredith's Country Bakery: "Baked goods from Ulster County, NY"

Jersey Farm Produce has delicious veggies; I've been content with everything I've gotten from them. Five stars for them. As with all the Greenmarkets, not cheap but high in quality and taste!

The Greenmarket at the Oculus Plaza, where Fulton Street meets Church Street in the heart of the World Trade Center is open every Tuesday, 7am to 7pm. It's a good option when you cannot get to the Union Square Greenmarket (which is much larger and open daily).

Oculus market is great for shopping locally grown farmer's produce, plus a few varieties of cheese, baked goods and spirits.

*Meredith's Country Bakery - Baked goods from Ulster County, NY
*Riverine Ranch - Water Buffalo meat and cheeses from Warren County, NJ
*Roxbury Mountain Maple - Maple syrup and maple products from Delaware County, NY
*Samascott Orchards, Nine Pin Ciderworks - Orchard fruit, strawberries, vegetables, and cider from Columbia County, NY

Support your local farmers! Enjoy!

I really miss the days I used to work in Union Square across from that fabulous farmers market. Well, they are back in a smaller way with the opening last week of the farmers market at The Oculus plaza on Fulton and Church St by the WTC buildings. A nice jazz trio provided music on a beautiful day. The usual suspects are here with maple syrup, fresh produce and bakery goods. I bought a cherry pie to bring home for dessert. Not so normal, but quite welcome was vodka tasting from a distillery 3 hours north of the city, past Albany. There were 3 choices ranging from classic (smooth) to signature ( a bit more bite with a gin like finish) and barley. Some vendors take credit cards, but for those that don't - NO WORRIES! The information tent will swipe your card and provide the cash equivalent in tokens to spend in the area. GREAT idea for those of us that are strapped for cash and don't want to hunt for the nearest ATM. The market is opened every Tuesday from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM. Go visit and enjoy!
