      Do they do walk ins?

      A:

Yes, except I believe on Fridays and Saturdays when they do the omakase-only seatings. We have frequently been able to get a spot at the sushi bar on a walk-in basis. It is an absolutely incredible place and you will not be disappointed!

Took our 91 year old Japanese mother for her birthday. The experience is great, the food is great, service great. Small business that provides 2 plus hour meal experience in Asian ( primarily) Japanese food. Our mother is very picky and she couldn't stop raving about the place.
The doors do not open till the time of your reservation and it is a fixed menu.

We came on a Wednesday night and were able to get reservations the same day. It's a small venue and super intimate but they are well staffed.

We got the mini omakase San (they serve a full omakase only on Friday and Saturday nights). I loved the egg soufflé dish with the crab to topping. All the nigiri were so fresh and just melt in your mouth. The service was impeccable as they were so attentive to our needs, primarily refilling our drinks. Our favorite nigiri were the mackerel and salmon. I would definitely come back! Dessert was delicious!

Hikari Sushi & Omakase is a small place, but one you should try and get into any day of the week. I was lucky to get in on a Wednesday as soon as they opened. I was staying next door at the Hilton Garden Inn and they said I needed a reservation, but I walked in as soon as they opened at 17:00, but I was by myself.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. They explained the menu and the options. The place is very nice, clean and quaint. It's conveniently located next to the hotel I stayed at and across the street from the movie theater. I had a conversation with a group that stopped in for a quick bite before their movie.

Now to the food: I ordered the Omakase San, since it wasn't a Friday or Saturday for the big omakase menu, but I had a big lunch and got in early, so I didn't need the 21 course meal and settled for the 12 course instead. There were other options depending on your appetite which is nice. Sometimes you only get one option with omakase, so this is a nice twist.

Let's just say everything I had was AMAZING and I'm a sushi snob. If you follow me, you pretty much have figured that out by now with one of my friends being a sushi chef for years and me receiving only the "best cuts" on fish day and me catching my own fish from California to Mexico throughout the year.

The plates were beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. I enjoyed every one of them. The cuts of the fish were delicious and tender with the perfect amount of fat and being lean. My only regret was not getting A5 Waygu, but I was already stuffed! Next time for sure.

If you're in Davis and looking for a nice place to take someone or just to grab a bite before a movie, head in to Hikari and you will not be disappointed.

I've been eyeing this place for a while and finally booked it to celebrate my husband's early birthday + Father's Day. It's definitely an experience and worth every penny - by far the best omakase we have had here in Sacramento! This place is easily above the rest. They put so much thought into everything, from where they source their ingredients, to the order of courses for the night. If you would've told me they had a Michelin star already, I would believe it. I'm calling it now!

We arrived almost 20 minutes late because of two accidents causing traffic on our drive over. Luckily parking is easy despite being in downtown Davis - they are located very close to a free parking lot right at 1st and F Street. We called in advance and they were very understanding, and had everything ready to go as soon as we arrived so that they could catch us up on the courses we missed so far.

I liked that they had the courses posted up on the wall so you could follow along, as well as where each main ingredient is sourced from. When a place doesn't have a written menu, I forget what it is the minute the server leaves my table, so I'm glad they had it up here. I didn't have one bad bite and it was difficult to choose a favorite, but my top ones would be the negitoro, ishidai and madai nigiri, the Japanese maguro nigiri set, and uni rice with grilled jikinmedai. But again - EVERYTHING was so amazing!

The experience is 2 hours long and pretty much ended on the dot, since they had the second and last service following ours. Everything is paid for in advance when you make reservations through OpenTable, so you don't need to bother with a check at the end. It makes the process very seamless.

Service is amazing here if you couldn't tell already by how much I'm raving about the experience. But something that stood out to me was how welcoming they were to questions, but also how they explained everything. One of the servers was a high schooler and you would never be able to tell, he was a complete professional - more professional than a lot of people twice his age!! The chefs and servers made everything easy to understand but also didn't treat you like you were beneath them. They explained how to eat different nigiri in different ways, something you wouldn't know at other restaurants. It encourages you more to want to ask more and learn more. Sometimes at fine dining type places, you feel a little bit more restricted or have to behave a certain way, almost like having to sit down or wipe your mouth a certain way. This place is more casual in that way, but you still receive stellar service. They look at you to make eye contact every time they talk to you or come over to grab a plate, to make sure that they address anything you may need. I felt so terrible some lady kept talking so loud to other people in her party when the chefs were talking and explaining things. So if you come here, it's not a time to catch up with someone you haven't seen in years- you should come here for the experience and the food and respect the presentation that they prepared for you.

5 stars no doubt, I'd give 10 if I could. We are so lucky to have this gem here in Davis and I hope it'll be around for a long time.

I'm happy to see omakase made its way to Davis. It was lovely to hear the chefs attest to the quality of ingredients and the pride in their work and course they presented. The staff were attentive to our needs and happy to help. There was an instance where a chef was expressing her excitement for an ingredient, and then a server undermined her enthusiasm. As a consumer, I would feel more comfortable hearing a script from the chefs or from the chefs themselves. Overall I had an awesome experience and it was worth the investment. Thank you!

We did not have a reservation but we lucked out and they were able to seat us. The restaurant is small and intimate and the music wasn't overpowering. We chose the omakase ni option which came with 8 chef selected nigiri, 2 starters and dessert. The first two dishes came out very quickly but the nigiri took a little time (once it came out you can see why). The nigiri was beautifully plated and each fish brought a special addition to the meal. I especially loved the salmon and the eel, but all were delicious. You can taste the care and passion in each dish. I have not had sushi this delicious since my last trip to Japan. We cannot wait to come back!

This Omakase experience was extremely good and definitely one of the best in the Greater Sacramento Area. The servers and sushi chefs are extremely nice, professional and the absolute best. As soon as you walk-in you feel extremely welcome as its smaller and very intimate.

The courses were great for the weekday menu. Got the third omakase option and I was filled enough contently. My favorites were definitely the NZ Salmon and the optional Wagyu. They just melted in your mouth perfectly.

The only thing i wish was that this place was open when I lived here for school as I definitely would have been a regular.

The food was of course top tier. You're coming to one of the only five star restaurants in the area so you should expect no less. I was always attended to if my water went down half way, needed more ginger, and was even able to adjust the wasabi level of my sushi all throughout my meal. The chefs here were not shy and took plenty of pride in their sushi, throughout the whole meal every course was explained thoroughly and in detail. The restaurant has wood work completely done by the founder and owner of the restaurant, bringing the exact ambiance of a little Japanese restaurant in Tokyo. Any questions that were asked they had an answer and if not they consulted and someone had it. These guys are very knowledgeable and it was my pleasure to dine at Hikari Sushi and Omakase.

Had a wonderful experience this evening! Hubby and I sat at the counter and enjoyed the full Friday night omakase experience. This was our 3rd omakase (1st here!) and I will say this was the one where I learned the most! Our chef was passionate about his craft, the history of the style of food, and his intention to provide an authentic experience to his guests. We enjoyed all of the courses, the fish was fresh, well prepared and often unique, and thr service was excellent. We left satisfied, more knowledgeable, and eager to return again! Thank you, Chef, for the awesome experience!

      Yes! That is all.

Okay, but really... made reservations for a Tuesday evening. Boyfriend and I didn't know what to expect. The restaurant looked small on the outside and was definitely small and intimate on the inside. We were seated at the bar. The waiter was extremely attentive and friendly. Definitely would have passed the Japanese vibe in Japan. He asked to hang up my coat. Definitely was feeling like a somebody at that point. We ordered the Omakase Ni ($55) and Omakase San ($65). The only difference is that with the latter option you get 2 additional Nigiri, totaling to 10 instead of 8. However, our chef gave me 9 pieces. Rather than giving us our food all at once, the chef prepared each one in front of us and placed them individually on the serving plate, which we then transferred to our personal plates. This was a unique experience and definitely allowed us to appreciate each piece. Our order also came with an egg custard, diced sushi with fruit, a handroll, and cheesecake with green tea ice cream. Everything was served in cute little plates. Portions were also very small but enough for you to enjoy and appreciate what was served. We also ordered a carafe of Moon on the Water Sake ($26) and Pomegranate Aloe Vera ($5). Everything was beyond amazing. It was about a 1.5 hour experience. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone seeking a nice intimate restaurant for a special occasion. They also offer a weekend experience that is about $175 per person. Will definitely try that out next time.
