Hilton Garden Inn SFO North turned out to be a good base of operations for our recent family trip to the Bay Area. We stayed for 6 nights at this one hotel for free (more about that later) and toured all around SF and visited Sonoma to San Jose and everywhere in between. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hilton-garden-inn-san-francisco-airport-north-south-san-francisco?select=IMuGkaUT1NCwxZ3WYEjRJA#Xa59NL3tf7bqkaGUhqyhAQ
When visiting San Francisco it is great to stay right in the city. But, there are few places that are a good value. Plus, a rental car?, forget about it. They charge you $50 + a night just to park the damn car. Most SF city hotels are in the upper price ranges too. Some are worth it but some are not.
The other option is to stay just outside of the city. More choices of hotels and better value for the money. Plus, often free parking like the HGI SFO North. So this trip I decided to stay near the airport. We wanted a rental car get around because we didn't want to be stuck just in the city. We got in from HNL at 11pm and got our bags and called for the HGI airport shuttle.
Location: Just a couple of miles from the terminal at SFO airport. Located in an office park area along with a couple of other business class hotels. Very close to San Bruno, a shopping mall and about a 10 min. drive into the city. The office park closes and rolls up the side walks at 5pm. Nothing in walking distance after hours. FYI there is a Bart station at SFO airport that goes right into the city for about $16 round trip.
Rooms: This is a newer modern business class hotel. Very nice rooms. In room coffee, refer and microwave. Basic choice is one King Bed or 2 Queen Beds. Clean and modern and quiet. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hilton-garden-inn-san-francisco-airport-north-south-san-francisco?select=IMuGkaUT1NCwxZ3WYEjRJA#5Qy_O17tZTYYShuECvME4Q
Amenities: Mini exercise room, laundry room, breakfast and dinner in the hotel lobby, computer room with printer, wifi, free parking, airport shuttle, mini pantry area with microwave dinners and snacks.
Staff: Helpful and pleasant. Hotel Airport shuttle prompt. But they do ask that you get your bags first and wait at the shuttle pickup zone before calling to request a ride. We were treated like paying customers even though we got free nights.
Breakfast: Free for us. Great coffee, oatmeal, cereal, fruit, made to order omelets. I would not have paid the 13.99 for the breakfast myself. But, the breakfast was a nice luxury for us and prepared us for a busy day of sightseeing. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hilton-garden-inn-san-francisco-airport-north-south-san-francisco?select=IMuGkaUT1NCwxZ3WYEjRJA#m4fCFzq2atf_XCsaFfiidw
Dinner: The same lobby restaurant that serves breakfast also does dinner in the evening. They also have a small bar area open. We didn't try this though.
Free??: Yup! free! free! free! I have a Hilton Honors American Express card. You rack up points pretty quickly. We used our points for a total of 7 nights this trip. Plus breakfasts included because of the card. Going rate at this hotel is about $189.
I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. I recommend it to San Francisco Tourists who are trying to put together a trip. Just remember that it is a business hotel and not a destination resort.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jul 7, 2024
Stayed here for 2 nights a few days ago. Love that it is near the airport for early morning departures. Room was decent, however, when we first arrived and turned the air on, it had a musty smell. It took a bit to air it out and eventually, it was fine. Nothing fancy about the room and the beds were comfortable. Staff was friendly and offered assistance when we were trying to decide where to eat. Other than that, we didn't really explore the hotel so I can't comment on anything else. Would stay here again if we decide to visit SF again.

The hotel was clean, people friendly and decent food in coffee shop. Manager goes above and beyond to please guests. Front Desk people also are efficient and friendly. Its just not quite up to my Hilton expectations. So slow on weekends with closed coffee shop and nothing in area for food.

It's 4pm and it's been a solid HOUR and counting waiting for checkin and for them to "make keys." Not to mention a queue of 10 parties ahead of me. They'll charge you for an early checkin. Do you think I'll see a credit for them checking me in late? Lol. Don't stay here, go else where, your time is more valuable

Easy and accommodating staff. Requests were fulfilled promptly. The only minus is their lack of bowls (we requested some for oatmeal and they gave is these really shallow dishes that were in between bowls and plates). But honestly felt really peaceful here away from the crazy insanity that is SF these days. Perfect spot to be close to the airport and still have very easy access to the city, also easy to travel down south the explore other neighborhoods.
Again staff here very gracious and attentive. Though I didn't try their food, the menu seemed very diverse and prices were VERY reasonable. I was so surprised!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Joy H.Walnut, CA0161May 23, 2024
Worst Hilton Hotel i stayed. They never clean our rooms. Staff said it needs 24hrs request for them to clean your room. I am a Hilton Honors member since 2012 and never heard any of that kind of policy. Why staying at the hotel if that will be the case. We requested a toothbrush and they asked us to go to the front desk to pick it up instead of bringing it to your room. We requested a fresh towel and they asked us to go down the front desk to pick it up as well. This location cannot keep up with the Hilton customer service standard. Its like a SELF SERVICE Hotel. You stay on hotels to get pampered specially when you are on vacation. I will never recommend this Hilton location at all. SO DISAPPOINTED.....

Top Line: Kind management & most of the staff are doing their best in a building that needs significant repairs. These staff are the only reason this review has 2 stars instead of 1.
Pros: Near UCSF Mission Bay, Gym open 24/7
Cons: Significant building leaks and damages, breakfast & parking are not included, price is high considering state of building, breakfast staff who cursed at my family member.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - George S.Atlanta, GA154Oct 2, 2023
I used ways.com to park at this hotel for transport to SFO. The advertisement stated that the hotel would shuttle me to the airport. I paid $34.00 to park at the hotel for two nights. This seemed like a great deal. However when I arrived after pre-paying online I was told by hotel staff that they didn't have a hotel shuttle. I was 2.5 hours from takeoff and had to pay $30 to be taken by Lyft to SFO. When I returned it was late Sunday night and the price was $60 to return to the hotel. Overall it cost me nearly $140 to park and travel from this hotel to SFO for two nights. Do not fall for this advertisement from Ways.com or this hotel. Shameful. Read the fine print and call ahead to verify.

Staff is super nice and helpful, rooms are quite clean and modern. On my most recent stay I chose a room on the top floor via the app, and checked in. When I got my mobile key I saw they had moved my room down a few floors. Not a huge deal but still disappointing. I would've rather chosen a different room myself if something came up.
My main concern is that, the last couple times I've stayed here, I've smelled natural gas outside the building and exhaust inside throughout the weeklong stays. Most recently I had opened my window (facing North, West side of building) for some fresh air and had to close it right away because the smell of natural gas was starting to get into my room. Every time I walk by the engineering or elevator rooms on the first floor I smell very strong exhaust. I don't think I'll be staying here again unless that is looked into. Seems unhealthy or even possibly dangerous.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 1 - Apr 14, 2023
My husband was selected as guest of the day, which meant he got a free night of parking and a free $10 credit that we could use at the restaurant or bar. Check-in was quick and some of the friendliest that we've had in a while. Our room was clean, smelled great, and we had no problems during our stay. The shower had great water pressure. We felt safe to park our car overnight in their parking lot, which says a lot when you're staying in San Francisco! Anytime we left or arrived, the people at the front desk greeted us. It was incredibly windy during our stay, we actually got a warning through our weather app about gale force winds, but it was still very quiet. We would definitely stay here again.
