Homewood Suites by Hilton Oakland-Waterfront

My recent stay at the Homewood by Hilton Oakland Waterfront was far from the comfortable and inviting experience I anticipated. The hotel is in a desperate need for room remodeling. The condition of the rooms left much to be desired, with the enamel peeling off the bathtub, creating a less than appealing environment for a relaxing soak. The rugs were worn out, suggesting a long overdue replacement, and contributed to an overall feeling of neglect.

Furthermore, the bathroom sinks appeared very outdated, which detracted from the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the space. It was these details that compounded to make my stay uncomfortable and gave the impression that the hotel had seen better days. The ambiance felt very old, and not in a charming or vintage way, but rather in a manner that suggested a lack of proper maintenance and updates.

In conclusion, while the location of the Oakland Waterfront might be convenient, the current state of the rooms does not meet the standard one would expect from such an establishment. I hope to see improvements in the future that will bring the quality of the accommodations up to par with the reputation of the brand.

About as rough a motel stay that I've had in years. Way off Hilton brand.
There was dog feces around the deck lounging area. Advertised nightly dinner available = no.
Rusty old appliances in the room and a toilet that I had to Jimmy everytime.
The welcome staff was nice but it was not enough to make thia stay anything but a kne time mistake.

I parked my car in front of the hotel - and it was broken into in daylight at the busiest time on Sunday. I asked if they had a camera in the frond of the hotel facing the parking - they said no, only on the door.

Don't park your car here.

I agree with the other patrons - this Homewood Suites is overdue for some updates. The rooms are very okay but there's occasional peeling of paint and the bedding feels like it's been through the wash a few too many times. Staying here makes me feel like I'm staying at a relative's house who doesn't host much / a little dingy and musty - not what I'm looking for in a hotel experience. Plus there's occasional rift raft around the hotel which makes me feel uneasy sometimes.

Even with these minor quips, I do find myself staying here quite often because:

1) Parking is free and easy - just be mindful to what you leave in your car.

2) It's conveniently located next to the freeway - just a quick Uber ride to Uptown Oakland!

3) Okay. The view of the marina is great!

Horrible, stay away!! I already knew getting a room in Oakland would be iffy now due to a lot of the crime increasing but I thought a Hilton brand would be a good choice, I was WRONG!!
First with check in, I arrived before my BF and he forgot to add my name to the reservation. The front desk said she would have to call him to confirm because they have been having a lot of issues with people checking in and just being "visitors" which I did not understand until I walked away from the lobby (prostitution).... I called and he said to give her the phone but she said she would call herself which she didn't, she went ahead and gave me the key.
The hallway reeked of weed and was very noisy. The room, thank god did not have the weed smell but did smell strongly of cleaning spray. The room was very dated along with cracked furniture. It was dark when we checked in so I did not notice a lot of the other things til the next morning.
The shower was super clogged with enough hair to make a wig, as well as the sink. The microwave did not work in the room and maintenance did not show up until the next day at 7am! We had to get a late check out due to maintenance taking about 2hrs and two trips to clear out the shower so we could shower and leave.
This is when I really got to see things that would have made me leave at check in...
Mold on the bottom of curtains and in the corners of the window, stains on the walls and ceilings... parking was horrible and people even parked in the entry way between buildings, as well as a abandoned looking motor home with homeless and trash around it in front of the hotel, to the side of the motorhome there was a huge memorial for a police officer that was killed outside of the hotel the month prior.
The only good thing I can say is they did have a good breakfast, and it is right off of the water so okay views, but area definitely is not safe and better take any valuables with you.... Also, still waiting for management to call me back because the lady in the lobby upon check out was not trying to listen to any of my complaints/concerns and told me to take a card and call... stay away!!!

The moment we arrived, the hotel was beautiful inside and we were greeted by the hotel clerk, she was extremely nice (thatnks for making our stay better!). LOVE the back patio, our room was nice as well. Hotel was clean, and i didnt realize there was breakfast too, but the food was good as well. I love how its so close (15-20min) to different areas like the movies, golf, japanese garden, etc. My husband and i both stated we'd definitely stay here agin.

Only 2 issues: our a/c stayed only at 77 (we didnt ask for maintenance), and just a suggestion, but theres nowhere to put toiletries in the bathroom. Maybe add a little stand by the side of the sink?

We had a room on the ground floor facing the freeway on ramp. There was constant traffic noise. The environment was dicey. Lighting in the parking lot was dim and I was concerned about the possibility of a smash and grab. The sign on the lobby door saying don't leave anything in your car was helpful but not reassuring. It's on the water, so easy access to vagrants, one of whom wandered by while I was trying to get the access key to work.

Hallway was dirty, smelled of marijuana. Thankfully didn't see or hear much of the neighbors. Friends staying in a different part of the hotel said that they were up all night because of 13 and 14-year-olds running amok in the hallways and rattling the connecting door to their room. I'm a mellow person, not very demanding, but took a long time going to sleep because of feelings of alarm. Would not stay there again.

This hotel has wonderful front desk, housekeeping, and breakfast service. The suites are roomy, so comfortable, and clean. The hotel is on the water by the Brooklyn Basin. There's a beautiful patio area with a pool, hot tub, dining area, and outdoor fireplaces. There are two coffee shops very close, a ramen restaurant and a German restaurant right nearby, gorgeous views, and a lovely recreational area for walking, skating, biking, picnicking, etc.

I had the best stay due to a great employee named Sabrina, I'm also a Hilton member, I was able to have the easiest check in of my life and I'm a person who has lived in suites due to work. I'm super grateful for the amazing customer service was given throughout my stay. Thank you Sabrina for giving above and beyond. Please give this women a raise! I'd say well deserved.
Environment: was welcoming, clean, calm.

This review is for the staff - very friendly!

I usually opt-in for a Digital Key but I always make it a point to visit the front desk for the complimentary water bottle and for a hard key. I'm a Hilton Honors member (previously Gold but due to Covid, have only maintained a silver)

The lady at the front desk was very nice enough to give a complimentary room upgrade over looking the water. She also asked if we needed any ice, extra pillows, etc.

I wish I checked what her name was so I can give her a proper shout-out.

The next morning, they had a brown bag for the complimentary breakfast. (How the pandemic has changed the norms). It consisted of a bagel, apple and yogurt and hard boiled eggs. They also had coffee, tea and the regular warm drinks. The lady at breakfast was very helpful and had no issue giving us extra eggs when we requested some. Mind you, this was very early at 6 AM and she was already at high spirits.

I would come back for the staff.
But the property is definitely dated.
