I won a gift card from Hoshi so my wife & I went for lunch yesterday. The place is pretty impressive as it has a nice waterfront view in the patio & inside the restaurant. The staff were friendly and welcoming.

We ordered Hoshi Special Gozen. Serves in two platters. The sashimi were really good. It melts in the mouth as well as the grilled salmon, you can taste the freshness & a different kind of burger. It blend well with the other veggies that comes with it.

The Sukiyaki hot pot was so flavorful. It comes with beef, veggies, tofu, noodles. The broth is so flavorful. We actually emptied the pot.

Albacore Tuna Mango Salsa is to die for. The tuna was so fresh as well as the tomatoes, onions & avocado. It blend well with the tangy & savoury dressing. Sooo good.

The service is excellent. The server keeps coming back to ask if everything is ok.
Overall, we had a nice dining experience at Hoshi. Will definitely come back & recommend to everyone who one to try a different kind of Japanese food.

There's something special about dining seafood right by the Beach Ave marina that makes the meal even more enjoyable and relaxing!
Hoshi is a cute little Japanese restaurant tucked in the area with a good variety of sushi, sashimi and creative Japanese dishes. In my visit my friend and I ordered the Uni Chawamushi + Toro & Foie Gras Nigiri + Kaiseki Kobachi Set + Aburi Sushi Lunch Set.
Quite enjoyed every dish and they were all beautifully plated. For lunch they have lunch sets that is quite affordable for a restaurant in downtown and for the selections in the sets too. The restaurant is a more intimate spot that's quieter probably due to the location, but makes the perfect place to a bring a date with a nice romantic stroll along the marina and seawall before or after a meal there - and there you go, date night is all set!

Hoshi is an amazing restaurant, the food was amazing, the sashimi tasted really fresh and was prepared well and also visually appealing. The tempura was not overly greasy and tasted great, the desserts were also great! The rolls were also delicious, a lot of different choices to choose from! Would recommend this restaurant to friends and family!
On top of the food, the restaurant is in a great location with views of the water and boats from the patio and inside. The owners are incredibly nice and friendly, servers are attentive and hospitable. The area itself is beautiful for a walk around after dinner as well, there is free visitor parking in a underground once you receive a pass from the restaurant.

We went to Hoshi on the day of my birthday. I wanted to try this restaurant since it was first open. The place has a nice waterfront view from both the patio and inside the restaurant. They have some very interesting beer selections. We ordered their sweet potato beer. The beer was smooth and didn't have a stronger bitter after taste. They also gave me a glass of complimentary champagne for my birthday as well! Everyone ordered a hot pot of some sort so we ended up doing the same as well cuz... you know... FOMO They have kaiseki too but I can't eat shellfish so we didn't go for that option.

      We ordered:
      - chicken karaage
      - salmon and toro oshi
      - salmon sashimi
      - sukiyaki hotpot
      - oden

They have free parkings shared with Na Jia. Overall, we really enjoyed the dinner. Nice view, food and drink.

You can't ask for the better location to enjoy great japanese classics, a class of cocktail, and the perfect sunset.

If you want something truly special, you gotta try their Matsutake Suimono, inspired by traditional soups served to emperors in ancient Japan. You can pre-order this in advance but definitely worth it. Seasonal produce/seafood such as clams, okra, crab meat, all incorporated in a thickened clear soup had plenty of umami and truly satisfying.

Along with this, their special menu features were all great for a summer feast to share with family and friends.

Bluefin Tuna w/Mango Salsa had very good textural contrasts and balance of flavours were consistent.

Sakemuchi Clams were one of our favourites of the night, with gentle plump meat (and no grits) plus plenty of sake flavour.

Mentaiko Dashi Maki Tamago was also our favourite with its sweet eggy aroma and the tart/savoury sauce complementing the egg's richness very well.

Beef Tongue Steak was not dry and the garlic chips were crispy without being burnt, which took skills. They were also very generous with large pieces of seared seafoods for their Aburi Set Chef's Selection.

Thanks to the gracious staff, it was a tasty meal with great atmosphere. We really enjoyed the vibrant colors on each plate and fresh seafoods.

The old M8 location by the water. Prices on the high side for what you get.

Didn't think the unagi was worth $9 a piece. Wasn't even hot or preferably slightly crispy burnt.

Best dish was the large clams. Beef tongue well marinated but not particularly tender.

For a restaurant with a decent view food is acceptable. Note parking access closed at 10 pm sharp.

PS forgot to mention online reservation works. Got an email and text promptly after filling up web form.

Nice spot for a casual bite of Japanese food. Is it the best Japanese food? No. But I've had far, far worse, and the food is anywhere from decent to pretty good, the location is excellent, and service great. It's very well priced, especially given the location, and a fairly sizeable patio for a small restaurant.

Just a warning that the patio is in the shade by the afternoon, and coupled with the cool marine breeze, it can be quite blustery and cold even during a summer evening, so I recommend bringing a sweater or jacket along.

The service was terrible and the price was ridiculous high. It's very hard to communicate with the waitress. Spent almost $300 for two!!! The drink taste bad because of excessive ice. The price for uni menu doesn't fit with the taste. The waitress told us they have the sea snails when we placed the order. We waited until we pay and got notified that they were sold out....very disappointed... we also got served with the very expensive wagyu beef without even knowing that until we pay. Not recommend this place and it ruined our Valentine's Day.

      This is $150!!!

A Japanese restaurant with a beautiful view! We had a nice table by the window with a view of the harbour. The restaurant is small and cozy with indoor and some outdoor seating. They have a variety of items to choose from on the menu. We started with a Kaiseki Kobachi Set which is a selection of 3 signature appetizers. It was all seafood, 3 types of sashimi. Good appetizer sampler to try. We also ordered the uni chawanmushi, toro nigiri, foie gras nigiri and the aburi lunch set from their special menu which included: chicken kaarage, atlantic salmon oshi, and 4 pieces of assorted aburi sushi. The lunch set was also a great way to try a variety of aburi sushi. Quality was good but wasn't the best aburi sushi I have had. The karaage was tasty and I quite enjoyed the chawanmushi.

Good quality food, not quantity, but enough to satisfy. Great view with the water and boats just off the boardwalk. Location is hard to find and need more signage to indicate where the rest is off Beach Ave. Yes I would return for the fresh oysters..

Came for happy hour today. I had the sunset cocktail and the tatanka cocktail. The tatanka cocktail is made with apple juice. It was on the sweeter side. The sunset cocktail was more refreshing and sour. I prefer the sunset over the tatanka. The pizza sushi tasted like a crispier okonomoyaki. Would not recommend. The oysters did not taste fresh (or maybe it was just ours). There was a very strong milky flavour and the soy sauce ponzu sauce did not help with the fishy flavour. The Toro aburi sushi was the best thing we had all night. Very smokey - you really can't go wrong with aburi sushi. Would recommend it but it is on the pricier side. The beef tongue came with a salad and garlic chips. Some parts were very nice and flavourful while the end parts were chewy and disappointing. Would not order this again.
Overall i felt like it was a bit pricey for happy hour. The food was mediocre. Would definitely recommend the aburi sushi and the sunset cocktail but other than that I would probably not go again unless I was looking for somewhere with a nice view and they have free parking downtown which is great.
