Chilling with the rolled ice cream
Come and grab a mystery egg from dozens of gashapon machine with a wide spread of Japanese cartoons like Pokémon, Sanrio, Kirby, just to name a few.
It's time for a sweet treat!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 6, 2024
Icicles has been my all time favorite this summer for ice cream. These rolls of liquid gold is worth the expensive wait lol.
I usually get the Mai Thai and my husband gets the Nutella and chill. The Mai Thai has a strong Thai Tea flavor which I love, you cannot ever go wrong when you order it because it's one flavor. As for the Nutella and Chill it seems to fluctuate in flavor as these rolls are freshly mixed sometimes the banana flavor could be more overpowering than the Nutella. After a handful of visits we finally started to ask to balance the flavors or ask for more of a Nutella flavor, the staff was very kind and of course new faces most of the time (student employees/young).The consistency of these rolls feel luxuriously thick, almost like cold clay in your mouth that melts.
There could be a long wait if it's busy because they're literally mixing and rolling these ice cream rolls with their hands and requires a lot of strength. Inside it has a cute wall set up for pictures but no seating, you have to stand and wait for your order so keep in mind the parking meter when you visit. They may be on the pricy side but very worth it considering you can see the ingredients/ process of making your rolls. The toppings are a plus if you want more flavor and texture. I always get the toasted marshmallow!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 22, 2024
while i thought the ice cream was whatever, i really disliked the speediness of this place. i went on a sunday night and while it was busy, it was incredibly inefficient. you order on a kiosk and of course, nobody knows what they want so they sit there and scroll through the menu and toppings for 10 minutes while there's a line of 5 people behind them. it took me about 25 minutes of standing in line (3-4 people in front of me) and then another 30+ minutes for the ice cream itself. i wasted over an hour at this place just to grab some ice cream. there are better options a short walk away that i recommend getting for dessert like somi somi or teaspoon. the wait was obnoxiously long. the plus side is you get a couple of toppings for free.
* there is no indoor seating btw *Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1462261278Mar 26, 2024
I can't believe I haven't yet left a review for Icicles! My favorite here is their Bravocado that is made with fresh avocado; I think about it from time to time! If they're out of avocado, my next goto is the Mai Thai / Thai tea flavor. Given each order comes with many rolls, my hubby and I always share an order between the two of us.
The staff is delightful here. It's a local business I gladly support!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 7, 2024
Cute rolled ice cream place. So I'll start off by saying that you mostly order through a kiosk. I saw some people wait in line to order from a physical person, however, you do take them away from making the rolled ice cream. This place was also very busy when we went in. There's no indoor seating as well. However, for how busy it was, we weren't waiting for long and we had a group of 4. The ice cream was so so good and would highly recommend! The only downside is there's just no where to sit.

Rolled ice cream . Yum . If Benihana's wanted dessert, this the place to go. There is a self service machine that takes credit card. If unsure on how to use the machine you can also order with the person up front. Being that this place is located in San Mateo Downtown the parking situation can be difficult but not impossible. There is a couple garages nearby and always that Walgreens if needed
I always get the bravacado and the bravacado today was served by the manager. Leave it to manager to roll it up, it came out chefs kissHelpful 16Thanks 4Love this 17Oh no 0 - Amun B.Shoreview, San Mateo, CA02558Aug 18, 2024
I've come to this location a few times and it's always been a good experience. You order on the kiosk screen and pay there, no human interaction unless you want to pay cash or something. Then you wait on the side for your name to be called once they finish making your order. We went on a Saturday late afternoon/early evening and it was empty. The girl that made my order did a great job! She took her time and layered all the toppings beautifully. It's actually the most delicious it's ever turned out, probably because it wasn't busy.

It was hot day on the Fourth of July. I haven't had icicles in a long time. It was no line since it was getting close to closing for the day. It was so good that I would definitely come back again. Oreo blast was so good.

Looks like a pretty casual ice cream place after dinner but just note it's $13 for a cup of ice cream. (but don't forget that you have 4 toppings included!)
Got Cereal Killer! It's always a fun experience looking at your ice cream being made and eating rolled ice cream. The ice cream is all rolled up, dense, so it feels kind of chewy.
Still feels like this is the most expensive post-dinner dessert option in the peninsula, but fun to try if you never tried rolled up ice cream.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
