This is a wonderful place to eat!!! Mostly local clientele - (lots of deliveries went out) and amazing food. Had the opportunity to speak to one of the owners (they all work there) and Jasmine was absolutely delightful!! We enjoyed our evening and our food was spectacular - we left with enough food for 2 more meals. You should leave Victoria without eating here!!

A fabulous local place about a 15 minute walk from the more touristy waterfront area of Victoria. I was scouting for local favorites before our getaway trip and J&J came up several times. I was chatting with the woman checking us in at the and she asked what we were planning. I mentioned J&J as a lunch option and she said her father used to take her there all the time, and it wasn't fancy (I had mentioned an upscale dinner we had reserved), but really great.

She was right on both counts. J&J has a really casual vibe and was bustling with folks who seemed to be both local and regulars. I enjoyed eavesdropping on conversations while we waited for our food: J&J Special Wor Wonton Soup, green onion pancakes and Szechuan green beans. A complimentary pot of tea was brought to the table immediately, and we were given the option of shrimp, pork, or mixed wonton in our soup (we went with a mix). The spouse declared "maybe the best" wonton soup he has had, and while I have probably had many more wonton soups in my life than him, he wasn't wrong. It was a damn fine soup for sharing, with bits of pork, chicken, seafood and vegetables. Plump wonton with thin skins. The green beans were perfectly al dente and garlicky. The only miss for me was the green onion pancake, which I order whenever it is on a menu. I have had this preparation before, kind of dry and doughy as opposed to more deep fried. I just have a preference for the more crispy fried type.

I really don't get the negative reviews. If you really like Chinese food (I love it and eat a lot of it), especially wontons and noodles, check this place out.

The food was delicious and we were pleased by the service. We requested that they charge us full price but only bring us half order of something because we didn't want to waste food while traveling, and though puzzled, they obliged. No need to throw away good food!
By the way, the dumplings were delicious as was the lemon chicken!

Well to start off the ambience is 1960's Chinese restaurant. Should have left then but the friends we were with said they used to come here years ago and it was pretty good. Well it wasn't! The chow main had very thin noodles and the sauce was pretty tasteless. Same with the fried rice which didn't look like it was even fried. Also had the won ton soup which was ok, again pretty bland. And some sort of cashew chicken dish and another chicken dish which I can't even recall as they all tasted alike. We all left disappointed and we didn't even get a fortune cookie. Service was good but not the food.

Excellent service, and good food. They were so kind to find me a spot without a reservation on the day of the lunar new year. I was surprised that they were full at 5. The wait staff was very attentive, and the food was unbelievably speedy. I got the Szechuan green beans which were delicious, mixed wonton soup which was OK, and spicy wontons, which were pretty good. A solid restaurant.

This is by far the best Chinese food on Vancouver island. They also offer an amazing gluten-free menu that you wouldn't even know is gluten-free five stars is not enough for this establishment.

The worst Chinese food I have ever had. Possibly the worst food I've ever had.
I don't leave reviews for mediocre food. Only when food is exceptionally good or exceptionally terrible. This is the latter.
My partner ordered the eggplant vegetable hotpot. It had no flavor. Zero. This is not hyperbole. He added a significant amount of soy sauce and managed to eat a few bites. The majority was left untouched. Imagine a wet paper towel, stewed until it is in pieces, sitting in its own thickened goop. This dish was like that, but slightly more colorful.
I ordered the "spicy" szechuan beef. Ok. I don't know what happened but it was decidedly, objectively, not spicy. There was no savory tone to this dish. It was like eating beef with corn syrup. I added a substantial amount of pepper and soy sauce. It was not good.
The shining spot in all this: mine was not nearly as bad as my partners. Lucky me!

Service was great but food didn't live up to the hype. Both the chicken and beef in our dishes was rubbery. Husband had really looked forward to some great Chinese food but both of us found it lacking.

Reminds me of the food we ate when we lived in San Francisco. I'm still exploring Chinese food in Victoria, but this has been the best tasting since we moved to Canada 3 years ago. Seeing the large turntables was nostalgic. Fast, friendly service. Large vegetarian menu. Fair prices and generous portions. Street parking. I plan to come back often and will recommend this place to friends.

It was very good food, clean comfortable atmosphere, amazing and efficient service. We bypassed the line up outside in the cold at another restaurant to come here for a try. We were very happy w the lunch specials- good quality delivered to table quickly. We'll be back for sure!
