I worked with Jay's Small Moves for a local move from Albany to Oakland this past weekend. The moving team--Miguel, Freddy, and Richard--was incredibly sweet, thoughtful, and kind! They were all smiles and full of energy when they pulled up in the truck at 8am!
What I love about Jay's is their straightforward pricing and speed. There is a base cost plus an hourly rate at a two-hour minimum. This allowed me to accurately estimate how much my 1BD move would cost based on my amount of items and my moving distance.
The team loaded everything extremely quickly, starting with my storage bins and boxes and then wrapping my furniture before loading those pieces into the truck. They also unloaded everything efficiently at the destination, making sure to ask me and my partner about item placement. They were SO fast yet precise!
Moving can be filled with unpredictability in terms of costs and dealing with all the belongings you forgot you had. But Jay's makes the process feel simple and smooth during a stressful time. I worked with them back in 2018 for a move from SF to Berkeley, and they'll always be my go-to moving company for a 1- or 2-BD move in this area!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tim M.Menlo Park, CA1127Jul 16, 2024
This moving company made my moving process very smooth. I emailed them expressing interest and they called with some questions. They also had me fill a detailed questionnare that breaks down the move. Questions included the number of stairs to climb, the distance from the door to the parking, the number of small, medium and large items to be moved etc. They were very punctual on the day of the move and very quickly loaded items into the truck. They went as fast as they could given the number of items I had and were very professional and respectful of both my items and the properties as well. Nothing was broken and they re-assembled my bed and other furniture correctly. I would highly recommend them for your moving needs.

Today was my third time using Jay's Small Moves and as always it went extremely well.
Christopher and his team Eli and Gabriel did a great job. They were fast, professional, and so nice and funny.
I really appreciate the great communication and care given from Christopher for every step of the process!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 7, 2023
Just realized I never left a review from our move back in June 2023! Jay's Small Moves was INCREDIBLE! The BEST! I was in AWE watching them work! It was an inspiration to witness their impeccable PROFESSIONALISM.
For what it's worth, this was my first time hiring movers, and I was beyond impressed. Several friends recommended them to me, and I'll now be recommended them to all my friends too!
They arrived on time, and leapt out of their truck like a team of comic book super hero's - here to save the day, with speed, style and a smile! We were moving from a large 2br to a cozy 2br, and three fantastic gentlemen from Jay's made it happen. There was the Captain who lead the team and took care of the business side of things in a friendly, efficient, and professional manner. He asked if they could play music while they worked and I said, yes! I loved the music they played and it gave the whole process an excellent upbeat, relaxed vibe!
The Captain had two other members of his team, who I'll call The Muscle, and The Architect. Just to be clear - all three guys were MUSCULAR, and they actually jokingly complained at one point that this move was too easy - they just had to drop and do a few push-ups occasionally. Were they serious?! Was this a show?! Were they just living their best life and showing off?! Whatever the reason, I was living for it!!!
At one point I happened to overhear The Captain giving his team members some truly heartwarming positive mentorship, which I think really speaks to the integrity of these folks and their business.
Let's talk about the guy I'm calling The Architect. We have an absurd sectional sofa that barely fit through the door in our previous apartment, and the door to our new apartment is about an inch narrower. I was convinced it would be impossible to get it into our new place. But THIS guy!!! He choreographed a smooth dance with the sofa so it gracefully slid right out of our old place as if there were no space constraints at all. Then the big test - getting it into our new front door. It was clearly a challenge, but our hero's weren't fooled! After an initial defeat, The Architect seemed to bend space and time itself as he gently guided our beloved sofa through the portal to our new home! They did it!! They made our new-home/old-sofa dreams come true!!
A few details and highlights:
- they wrapped everything in blankets and plastic wrap before they moved anything, and then unwrapped everything after each item reached it's final destination
- everything arrived at our new place in pristine, perfect condition.
- it took about 3hours from start to finish, which still blows my mind. So Fast!!
- it cost about $1000 after tip and everything. I wasn't sure we could really afford it, but in retrospect, I think I would have easily burned $1000 taking time off work and renting a UHaul to do it all ourselves. Plus I was very happy to give these incredible human my money!!
- They were wearing clean clothes that seemed like whatever was most comfortable and functional for each person, which makes way more sense than a standardized uniform.
- I really appreciated these guys genuine, positive, professional, chill vibe.
Thank you, Jay's Small Moves!!!!!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - Laurie M.Berkeley, CA02Aug 6, 2024
What a professional group of packers! Moved locations in the East Bay and I absolutely recommend Jay's Small Moves. Fernando, Chris and Carlos were incredible--polite, thorough, super strong, respectful of the furniture, they took such care wrapping every piece. I would ask for those three any day--have moved a bunch over my life, and this was by far the best. Thanks guys!!

Jays helped us move from Marin to Sonoma County today. We were living in a townhouse with 22 stairs to the door and 14 inside from floor 1 to 2, with no AC in the building. They were beyond kind, personable and professional - and given we are repeat customers, we know and trust this company. Things were wrapped and protected and then packed with precision. They even placed our furniture where we wanted it, and rebuilt our bed. They had everything loaded at our home in a few hours and the price was very reasonable for the service they provide - thanks for the friendly chat and excellent move, Bryan, Darwin, Kevin and Avelino! You helped us set up our forever home.

Jay's was great. I called them and they were able to book an 8am move a couple weeks out. Great availability and very responsive via email. Honest and straightforward with rates too.
Moving day was smooth, the team was on time and super nice.
Shoutout to Bryan, Jose V and Luis F. These guys really went above and beyond -- especially when hauling an enormous couch up 4 flights of stairs. Initially it looked like it wasn't going to fit up the stairwell and I'd have to sell my couch, but they persevered and somehow found a way to make it happen! Incredible work, and they saved me the hassle and cost of selling/buying another couch.
Professional, courteous and really good people. Big respect to these guys. Thanks for making it simple and painless.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Suzanne N.El Cerrito, CA04Jun 1, 2024

These 3 men were excellent! Arrived on time, reviewed the work to be down, worked efficiently and effectively. They took time to carefully wrap our furniture, and then unwrap once properly placed; especially our bed which they rebuilt after they brought it into our new home. They worked hard all day. I would definitely recommend this moving company - well priced and excellent service.

I called Jay's Small Moves on a Sunday for a Thursday move-in. I promptly got an accurate quote and chose these movers because they can handle packing and furniture disassembly as well and I had several large or fragile items (e.g., a large desk, a monitor, a bedframe) that I wasn't confident disassembling or packing myself.
Throughout the week the company sent frequent reminders about the upcoming move. I think because I booked such a last-minute move, they gave me a time range instead of an exact arrival time.
On move-in day, my 3-man team of Luis, Karim and Johnathan showed up. They first called to confirm my address and then gave an ETA, and like other reviews here have said: they were very punctual!
The team was efficient, professional and experienced. They moved swiftly and were able to quickly solve problems such as fitting awkward or large furniture through doorways and narrow halls.
The team was very friendly too! Karim and I had some good chats about music (during some downtime) after he saw my instrument.
If I really had to pick out some negatives, I would say my desk and monitor picked up some smudges during the move. If I wanted to avoid those I probably could have planned or asked for careful (plastic) wrapping of these items, but they can be wiped clean and the important part is nothing got damaged! I think knocking the review down to 4 stars for this would be unfair; I'd give at least 4.5/5 if I could.
If I have to move in the Bay Area again, I'd give them another call!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0
