Excellent vibes, beautiful interior, delicious drinks and wonderful service....but mediocre food.

Jungle Room has been a highly anticipated try on my list and when I finally assembled a girl's night out we were all excited and eager. As mentioned in other reviews, this is not the place for a quiet intimate dinner but rather, a fun night out or a boujee pre game. The waitress was charismatic and awesome - she gave us lots of suggestions and was patient with us when the rest of our party was slow to arrive. We ordered some things to share and everything arrived promptly and nicely plated.

Mariko's milk bread had a delicious curry butter spread!! I found the bread to my liking overall, but some of my friends found the texture of the bread a bit on the tougher side and not moist enough. The laksa bombs were a win in our books - the prawn and truffle dumplings complemented by the lobster laksa broth made it enjoyable and was a burst of flavour. From that point on however, things began to fall flat. The seafood tower looked really good on the menu. However, upon its arrival we noticed 6 oysters (these were completely good) and underneath....some very small plated selection of seafood and beef tartare. For $88, we were definitely hoping for more. Nonetheless, we were determined to give it a chance. The dishes were not up to par with its price tag - the tako was chewy but not of the pleasant kind, the scallops were over seasoned with ginger, the salmon was just a few pieces on a messy bed of seaweed salad (which I enjoyed more than the salmon). The uni soba was lacking in terms of flavour profile and depth, definitely underwhelming. Finally, the rice cakes arrived in a messy pile that tasted as gooey and sticky as baby food. This may be a preference so if you enjoy soft foods, by all means this may be the dish for you!

Hopefully, this was just an off experience with the food but there are many things to be improved upon in terms of quality, taste, and value. The experience left us feeling underwhelmed and sad. However, the drinks were definitely a redeeming factor and I would still love to return another time to have a drink and try out the dessert menu (which I've head many good things about!!).

Candle motifs & green jungle inspired fronds can be found all over this very loud dining space. Definitely a place to grab drinks but I found it quite hard to hear my dining companion.

Service was relatively fast on the the Saturday I went.

They offer a happy hour menu from 5-6 where you can get a few of their dishes for a few dollars off.

Lumpia Spring Rolls - I quite like these. Crispy skin and the addition of adding greens so you can wrap your rolls and dip was a nice touch.

Cumin & Miso Mussels - this was delicious. The soup was more of a curry to me and was the perfect addition to use the bread to sop up the flavor. A fair amount of mussels to boot.

Beef Ribs - this was very dry! Definitely not something I'd order again. The bare was quite difficult to get off the bones.

Rendang Tacos - not to be fooled by "beef rendang" because it is not that. Filling was decent but a bit small for price point in my opinion

I went to Jungle Room to grab some drinks with friends. The place was pretty spacious and hadn't gotten too busy when we arrived, so we were seated right away. Our waitress was very friendly and quickly gave us an overview of the food and drinks menu.

I ordered the Maracujà Gimlet, while my friends chose the Matcha Ya-Ya, El Viejo, and the Honey Don't. My gimlet was fantastic, with passionfruit and lychee notes blending perfectly. They even gave me a passionfruit-filled chocolate to munch on the side, which was a nice touch. The Matcha Ya-Ya had a foam that tasted just like a matcha latte, but the drink itself was quite gingery. I found the combination a bit odd, but my friend loved it. El Viejo was really unique, with a smoky flavor that highlighted the plantain. We all agreed it was the most interesting drink of the round. The Honey Don't had small melon balls on top, which made it look really cool, but it was quite sour and had an overwhelming honeydew flavor.

This place is a must in Vancouver! This restaurant is an eating/ drinking place. When I went here, I did not realize that there's dinner served and thought it was just place for drinks. I was sad when I found out.

We made a reservation on a Saturday night and it was packed! If you have do not have a reservation, the wait is long and there's a chance that you won't be seated. Make sure to make a reservation for this hot spot!

When we checked in with the server, we were quickly seated. The vibes were upscale and every one seemed to be having a good time. What I liked about this place was that there's a live DJ in the center of the room so you can enjoy the music while catching up with friends.

I ordered the matcha yuzu drink and it was so delicious! You can't even taste the alcohol hehe. It gets dangerous pretty fast if you don't pace yourself!

We ordered a couple of small bites and they were so delicious!

Overall, if I go back to Vancouver, this will be my go to spot.

Was intrigued by the concept of this restaurant since it promised Japanese-Indonesian fusion (my hone country). Place was also aesthetically pleasing with all the greenery and flowers. Unfortunately, the entire experience was quite underwhelming for two reasons: 1. There was a leak causing water to drip into the floor around our seating area, which led us to several back and forth requests until they moved us to another section 2. The foods tasted quite bland compared to the concept of what they were supposed to be. Maybe I am too harsh because I know what the original dishes tasted like, but even with the concept of adjusting it to the local palate, I still think you could have put more flavours overall.

      Mariko's Milk Bread ($7) 6,5/10
Weirdly addictive when though it was white bread and curry dipping sauce. Probably the most enjoyable dish here?

Pork Belly Baby Guling ($32) 6/10
The term sambal matah is very misleading though, seeing as it had more tomato sauce and sugar versus chilies. Don't get me wrong, it was still quite enjoyable, but nothing close to the real deal. Pork belly itself was top notch with crispy skin and juicy texture.

      Beef Ribs ($38) 4/10
We were most excited about this menu, wondering if it truly resembles Naughty Nuris from Bali. Very disappointed since this just tasted like ribs with sweet soy sauce, which they didn't use enough for since it was still very bland. Cucumber gado-gado tasted good because how can you mess up peanut sauce with anything?

We decided to try out the Jungle Room for brunch. There are many lush green plants that adorn the place, giving it a somewhat tropical jungle vibe! They serve Indonesian & Japanese inspired street foods, and they use French techniques to elevate these street foods.

      Featured here:
      Wild Mushroom Taliwang Benedict
      Pork Rendang Benedict
      Crispy Chicken Taliwang Sandwich
      Matcha French Toast
      Pisang Goreng Affogato

Love this place! The Mushroom Benedict was bursting with mushroom flavor and the egg yolk was soft & runny as it should be. There's nothing more disappointing than a dried egg yolk when it comes to benedicts.

The potatoes that accompanied our benedicts were delightfully crispy and had a wonderful seasoning on them. There was a slight tang to them, which I think came from lemon juice but it was quite subtle and not overpowering.

The Mixed berry jam was a lovely way to complement the Matcha French Toast.

We've had Pisang Goreng before but this was the first time having it as an Affogato. Being quite full already from our savoury foods, we ordered just one Pisang Goreng Affogato to share. It was so good though. If I find myself here again, I think I'll order one all to myself no matter how full I'm feeling!

      Service: Good
Parking: Mostly paid parking but free parking is available on some side streets

I came here for my friend's birthday! Our bus was running late and my friend booked it for 6pm. They were really really gracious and accommodating since our bus was running late to switch it to 6 30 (and then 7)
it was really chill and there were live music playing

We shared uni soba, Indonesian chicken taliwang, and the cucumber gado gado to get a taste of everything. We raved about the uni soba the most! we were almost fighting for it and regretted not ordering 2 Very creamy and all the dish had garlic which i loved.
the next fav is the cucumber gado gado - very refreshing but a touch of spice the flavors must meshed so well together. I want to recreate it somehow at home. In total, we spent about $30 per person before tax

the last is the chicken which was good it kinda reminds me of curry without the spiciness and a bit more sweet.
We were not disappointed by any food at all - we did wish the portion was a little bigger but it was still filling.
i would rate here 4.5/5 but didn't have that option

and the server was super super sweet and offered a dessert on the house for my friend

I would definitely come back again

      deeper and delicious

I'm not sure what happened to my review from last year, so a recap: I went last year when it opened, and was underwhelmed. The menu was too ambitious & busy to be executed well, the servers seemed inexperienced and/or indifferent, and the drinks were adequate but not worth the price or hype.

About a year later (Nov 2023), I went back and:

      - staff were much more knowledgeable and seasoned

      - the drinks were better, but still not good enough on its own to be a draw

      - the menu has been tightened up and now focuses on punchy, bold-flavoured Malaysian and Japanese snack/fusion foods

      - their menu is now legible

My friend and I went at happy hour and the salmon tartar was honestly one of the best ever. Fantastic value at Happy Hour.

The "crispy" chicken sando was not crispy, but cold and sludgy from at least 2 or 3 different sauces glooped onto it. I found it inedible.

The arancini was oddly bland and boring, but if you're looking for a cheap carby filler, I guess it does the job.

The eggplant "tempura" was bad. It basically had a thick, oil-soaked batter that was more like a greasy fish and chips type batter than the thin, crispy, non-greasy texture you typically expect from tempura.

Their beef rendang tacos were very generous with the beef! Definitely a great happy hour value.

The room is still gorgeous, and they have different areas and seating arrangements for different types of diners.

I'm still giving it a 4/5 because I think the service, ambience and mostly decent options for food and drinks makes this great for a date night or group get togethers.

Sludgy fried chicken sando - very gloopy
Possibly the best salmon tartar I've had

Came here on a Friday night at 6pm. I made a reservation since there was 5 of us. We were seated right away and tucked in a really cute corner with all the jungle vibes around us. Great for pics!
Our server was super friendly and she was very attentive. But let's be real, this place wants to make money from the cocktails. So don't expect too much from the food, although we did have a couple hits.
We ordered a variety of things, since there were 5 of us.
We tried the octopus 3 ways, and each way was delicious. They have it grilled, fried and tempura. They each had a different yummy sauce to go with each. Small portion, but was good to share with 2 people. The fries are really yummy, hot fresh with a garlic lemony tang and the dipping sauce was perfect. The milk bread is warm and almost has a bit of a croissant feel, slightly flaky and delicious. It goes really well to dip in the laksa bomb broth. Those were little pockets of heaven, with coconut milk and truffle! Just wish there was more of them. I bet the fries would've been yummy to dip in them too!
Our friend got the pork belly and he just loved it. Crispy and fatty with a small salad that goes with. The one big miss was the tuna tartar, which came with taro chips. It tasted really fishy and odd. We let the server know and she kindly removed it from our bill. That's important and great service!
Finally we tried the pear and chocolate lava cake. Very yummy, mostly chocolate flavour.
All in all, it was a fun place to try and to get some fun pics. The music is a bit loud, so you can't get intimate as much as the decor calls for. Parking is also difficult to find if you come before 6pm.
