Kabuki Springs & Spa is an oasis of serenity in the heart of San Francisco, providing massage therapy, botanical facials and other spa treatments.

    Ask the Community

    • Q:

I want to try one of the facials but haven't had one in years. Which one would you recommend? I am a 61 yo female.

      A:

Torfeh, personally, for me, the Botanical Peel gives a real bang for the buck. But, if your skin is at all sensitive, I would go with the Essential Facial for a basic cleansing and toning of the skin.

    • Q:

Do they supply disposable razors and shaving cream? Do they have individual washing stations where you sit in front of a mirror like at a jimjilbang?

      A:

Hello David, thank you for your question. Kabuki Springs, unlike the Korean spas, does not provide razors, Our amenities include, water and tea, body lotion, shampoo, conditioner, bath gel and salt for scrubbing. The lighting is not bright enough… more

Stopped by for a Sunday night Shiatsu Massage with Communal Bath. This was a perfect spa day for me. I feel much more relaxed, with my stress melted away physically and mentally. The facilities are clean and staff are skilled and respectful.

Communal bath area (women only day) was very calm and peaceful, quiet place to relax and unwind after a long week. Lots of space and not crowded or loud like other spas. Shower options were classic with nice hair and body products to use. The hot pool, steam room, and sauna were all comfortably hot without being overbearing. The cold pool really shocks you at first, but if you sit in there for a good minute it's very worth it in between heating up. There's also ample water and tea to rehydrate from all the sweating. I stayed for an hour to loosen up before my massage but will for sure stay longer next time around.

I had the Shiatsu with Hiroko. Perfect amount of pressure in a quiet room with soft ambient music playing. She asked what spots I would like to focus on, and added good pressure and took time in those areas during the service. I could feel my tension releasing throughout the massage, and nearly fell asleep by the end of it. Super worth it!

      1 check-in

Solid 4 stars for my experience here! I only came here for the women's communal spa day on Sunday.

Parking: there is a parking lot right around the corner. Price is pretty reasonable, I think it was $3/hour after 3pm.

Check in process was fairly easy. For some reason I thought inputting my information online meant I already paid, but I guess it was just a hold. I had to complete the payment in person.

We were given a full tour of the place and where to grab slippers, the locker room, towels, and the process. You can either come in bathing suite or fully unclothed. You do have to shower first before you should go into the rooms or pools.

      The steps:
      1. Dry sauna or steam room
      2. Cold plunge
      3. Hot tub
      4. Repeat

The only strange thing was that the large shower towels were all the way in the front - this should be swapped with the small ones inside. It was kind of confusing bc you need a bigger towel to dry off at the end?

Inside the communal area they had plenty of spa water, ginger tea. They even had bath salt for scrubs.

Overall, I had a really fun experience! I would totally come here again.

PS: Your electronic devices have to be 100% off when you enter. They make sure you turn it off in front of them.

Thank you, Hurjane. That’s a good description of our communal baths. I think you only forgot to mention that it is a quiet space. I do hope you come again. Peace.

PRO: baths are amazing. It's truly a little piece of heaven in SF.

CON: I've had two services at different times and they were both terrible. The massage was done by a therapist who after I was laying on the table, told me the massage would be done with plastic gloves due to painful psoriasis on her hands--I felt badly about her condition, and extremely awkward because, I can tell you, a massage with gloves (think the kind a person working at the deli counter would wear) is not the experience you pay this kind of money for... it was terrible. Had to stop the service and Kabuki, rightfully, did not charge me.

The second service was a facial where the woman spent most the entire service restocking her shelves, and at one point left me on the table for 10 minutes. The massage part of the service was rushed and thoughtful. She explained nothing about the service--it was completely disappointing and at that price point, felt like a complete rip-off. (Right after, I sat in the baths, and saw that she was also using the spa... I couldn't help but imagine she rushed to enjoy her own experience.)
Anyway--shame on having such poor quality servicing in a place that could be absolutely incredible.

Awesome place to relax and rejuvenate after walking around touring the city. As soon as you walk in the door you can smell the good energy. The whole place smells really good and clean. The staff were very helpful.

Asha was very pleasant and friendly when I came in on a rainy Sunday! I was offered some tea while i waited for my appointment since I was early. Art completed my 80-minute CBD massage and it was absolutely AMAZING! The achy parts of my body were addressed and i felt so relaxed! Pressure was checked on, i get hot easily so they turned the heat off, fan was offered. The noises i heard last visit were less noticeable but I think it's just the city and no way around it. They did their best with cancelling out the noise! I can't wait to come back next month and to hopefully bring my bf!

Tranquil Asian spa but for westerners. Been to Korean spas in Asia and they're quite loud with people chatting and don't enforce a code of silence like here, other then that there's nowhere more relaxing to spend a morning or afternoon to decompress. Nice amenities, clean. Would recommend

Thank you, NIck. I know that our “code of silence” can be surprising to people who are expecting a more social spa, but, as you say, it enhances the calm and relaxation. I appreciate your review. Kathy

Had a Shiatsu massage from Carlos - which was great! Strong pressure which helped with tension in my shoulders and back. Carlos was friendly and explained the massage. Would recommend him for a massage.
The communal baths were relaxing and quiet. I went on a Friday which was women's day. The steam room, sauna and pools were all excellent. The hot pool could have been hotter but it was fine. I waited for a lounge chair as there aren't many so that was relaxing. I would only go on a women's day as it seemed everyone was comfortable whether wearing a swimsuit or not.
It was a relaxing afternoon at Kabuki and I really enjoyed it.
My only suggestion would be to have some free simple snacks - nuts, chocolates, fruit. I've used to having those at the spa and it makes for a even more luxurious retreat.

I decided to go to a spa for my birthday and after looking at the different options in SF, opted for Kabuki. Making a reservation for our party of 3 was easy online, and I also joined the Kabuki Club which got me double points for our visit today. While I've been to one other (russian) spa before, I'll walk through my experience a bit since some of my questions weren't answered on the website or in the reviews here.

Parking: We parked in the Japantown Center Garage which is a short walk to the spa. Don't forget to bring your ticket with you as they will validate.

The person who checked us in was lovely and after learning it was our first time, she walked us through the facility and let us know how visits usually went. As a plus size girl, she also gave me larger towels which was greatly appreciated.

I wasn't sure about sandals and on the drive over I panicked because I didn't want to get what I had on wet, but they have shower sandals to borrow and most folks wore them inside the spa area. I noticed a few folks brought their own water shoes. A few times I walked around barefoot and I was worried about slipping but that wasn't an issue.

There is infused water, hot tea, sea salt (for the sauna or shower) and cold washcloths available in the spa area, which was great and we heavily utilized. We arrived during the first slot of the day (12 - 2:30) and there were about a dozen of us upon arrival and by the time we left, maybe 30 folks? I noticed as we were walking out that there was a sign on the door that they were fully booked for the day, so I'd recommend making an appointment if you plan to come (no charge is made at the time of booking). We stayed for about 2 hours (3 -4 rotations) and felt very relaxed and refreshed afterwards. I'll definitely return.

Kabuki is an oasis in SF! Anytime life gets a bit overwhelming, I head over to Kabuki for a restart. It is gorgeous inside and the perfect environment to relieve some stress. I've only done the communal baths on women only nights for $45 and while it seems a bit expensive at first, it's definitely worth it. 2 and half hours is plenty of time as well. It is meant to be a very quiet environment and I really appreciate the staff's attentiveness to this. I recommend going alone instead of with friends to really maximize the purpose of the experience!
