Perfection. That is what I experienced at Kaide Sushi. This is the best sushi that I have ever had, and I highly recommend visiting if you are in the area.
First, a bit of a story... My girlfriend and I decided that we wanted to eat good sushi in Vancouver. We went to a couple places and were very disappointed with the quality of the fish. The night before our visit (on Canada Day), we absolutely gorged ourselves on sushi (in proper American tradition) at a different restaurant, but the food was just okay. We were disappointed, stuffed, and sad; we swore that we could not even think about sushi for at least a month...
Well the next day, we were still fairly determined to get a proper sushi meal, and we found Kaide on Yelp. We joked around about going but eventually we said why not and checked it out. The atmosphere was nice and there was space at the bar so we sat down. We were greeted by the owner (older Japanese man) and his fellow sushi chefs, and they seemed very friendly and personable.
When it came time to order, we went with our traditional first pick of salmon nigiri and went with a roll. We usually judge a sushi place by the quality of it's miso and it's salmon nirigi. The salmon was not the best we have ever had but was much better than the other sushi places we visited. Then came the tuna nigiri... my god... that tuna was the best damn tuna I have ever put in my mouth. I dream about the tuna now. We ordered a few more sushi rolls even broke our sacred tradition of finishing the meal with salmon nigiri, replacing it with the tuna nigiri.
Okay, tuna aside, the rice was firm yet sticky and had the best consistency that I have ever experienced with sushi. During our meal, the owner joked with us and told us stories as well as answered any questions we had about the fish. The value of this place is insane.
***Those who live or work near this shop, you are lucky, and I envy you. ***
Bottom line: The fish was fresh, delicious, and simply melted in your mouth. The rice was perfect. The price was amazing for the quality of the sushi and the atmosphere was much nicer than some of the other sushi joints in Vancouver. The owner and his staff are very pleasant and experienced. If you want 'effing fantastic sushi, GO HERE NOW.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Joanne K.New York, NY215119254Dec 26, 2023
Absolutely delicious nigiris are found here!
The two kind servers and the sushi chefs are looking out for your taste buds and they would want up to get their local BC uni ($6). It is often sold out but it's probably the best Uni you can get in town.
I don't want to rave too much because I don't want my Uni to always be sold out but this place deserve the recognization.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 21, 2023
For me, this place fell below the current standard of Sushi Vancouver.
The overpriced Miso Soup was so concentrated that... I couldn't eat it (see pic.)
I say overpriced because the $2.50 for a Miso Soup is above current prices in the city....moving on....
The Sushi itself was decent, but the environment took away from the quality of the dishes. It was dark, gloomy with lights burnt out and dusty tables. Our server was unfriendly and rushed us from beginning to end.
The first thing that hit me after walking out disappointed was the thought that this place just needs some serious TLC.
Maybe dust it off a bit.....metaphorically and literally.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tarney S.Kirkland, WA0213Feb 11, 2024

I came here for dinner with a friend on a weekday evening because of the excellent Yelp reviews. We decided to get a half order of salmon and tuna sashimi as well as two rolls - mako roll, rising sun roll. Overall I found the sushi quite fresh. The rising sun roll was quite unique in that there was no seaweed at all which was a first. However I did not find the special rolls that unique but thought they were quite tasty regardless. Friendly staff and stop by if you're in the area!

Invited my friend for a birthday dinner here due to the rave reviews.
Kaide is tucked in a dense treelined boulevard near the end of Richard Street and has a very finicky hours of operation due to perhaps its target customers-workers. They are closed at 8pm.
We ordered sufficient of nigiris, sushis, sashimis and rolls. The waitress wasn't very fluent in English and got a few orders wrong and overcharged us. But ok it was rectified upon some lengthy finger language involved communication.
Service was exceptionally slow perhaps due to lack of staff or too many customers. 1 wait staff. Could be logistics or difficulty of hiring these days.
Food quality is nothing spectacular, I would say it is average, they tend to skip the mayo in the rolls. Reminds me of Korean owned sushi joints.
Okay. It's a try not a must.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jen L.Bellingham, WA05Nov 1, 2023
They often have butterfish! So good. Everything I've tried is delicious. Very welcoming staff.

ATTENTION TOURISTS:
This place is not a culinary destination for out of towners but totally solid for your weekly rotation. Vancouver is blessed with so many sushi restaurants that this place is just average at best. There's nothing special about this place (no special rolls, techniques, flavours, etc) but it is decently fresh and good quality ingredients.
My group had a variety of stuff (nigiri, rolls, sashimi) but it's the same as other mom and pop places so I won't get too much into it. The tuna tataki however was a little strange since it was big thick pieces of tuna on top of a salad with a yuzu sauce. Tasty but not a must try.
The only other thing was that it had a weird smell when we walked in, like they were trying to cover up the sushi rice smell or maybe from the vape store next door? You get used to it after 5 min or so but it definitely threw me off initially.
If I lived in the area and wanted some sushi I'd come here but don't bother if you're from out of town, it's a waste of a meal imo.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Alyssa S.Central, Vancouver, CanadaJun 4, 2022
Vancouver is blessed with an abundance of sushi restaurants that churn out big portions and some fusion for reasonable prices. Kaide stands out as a more traditional and smaller Mom n' Pop style experience that prides itself on its daily fresh offerings. I had what I think might be the best saba nigiri I've ever had in the city. Fresh saba hits different! Kaide's was nicely charred - still had that nice oily texture & fishy flavour saba is known for but somehow cleaner and smoother. Service is nice and attentive. The sushi chef takes a lot of pride in his food !

Was staying in central downtown van city and was looking for great places to eat some sushi for dinner. Little did you know, I eventually stumbled across Kaide Sushi. After seeing that it had consistent great reviews and amazing 5 star comments, I encouraged my crew to try it.
We made a reservation for 7, which they were very friendly about in making quick accommodations. We headed over and they already had a table set up for us. Service was great right off the bat!
Food: I orderd salmon sashimi cuts, and dynamite roll. Personally ordered this because they are my two favourite in general. AND BOY OH BOY! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! The cuts were fresh, thick, and amazing. Flavourful. I can't find a fresh fish place like this in Toronto... mmm!! My friends had the Kaide specials, and they too, were fresh, amazing, and soooo worth it.
We all took our time and appreciated the food, because it was definitely worth taking your time to enjoy. The price would be around $$ depending on what you get. I now understand why people rave about BC sushi, and I'm glad that I've experienced it with Kaide. Would definitely come back! 5/5!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
