Yes, I drove by yesterday Nov 16, 2020 and it was open again. I saw a few were dining in from driving by. I didn't get a chance to go into the restaurant or dine in yet though.

I had the best time here catching up with friends. Kamu Sushi is quite limited in space, so we were super lucky to walk in and be seated immediately. The wooden interior felt very cozy and inviting... By the end of our meal we were already planning the next time we visit. My friends and I were blown away by everything we ate- and the friendly and attentive service from Cheuk and Helen topped it all off!! Thanks for making our late birthday celebration so fun & special! I do understand the comments saying how small the sushi is, but for this quality and variety, I ain't mad at all. Each bite kept me wanting more & more. Kamu Sushi also offers a BYO sushi roll, which I thought was really cool!

For a party of three we went crazy and ordered a ton of rolls hahaha worth every penny, you've been warned.

Chef Omakase Roll 5/5 - This was our first roll and we were off to a great start!! The omakase roll is unique to every table, I've never been to a place that offered this before! The salmon melted in our mouths and the yellow radish was refreshing.

Deluxe Sashimi 5/5 - It's actually incredible how fast we demolished this platter considering how pretty it was. Every piece was fresh, nicely portioned and of great quality. Highly recommend!

Porkbelly Skewer 4/5 - Helen recommended this so ofc we had to get it. It was yummy like everything we've tried at this point, and paired really well with our beer.

Crunchy Blossom 4/5 - Flavor bomb! At first I wondered why the crunchies were in the middle and not on top of the sushi, then I realized that the roll was meant to look like a flower!! I love that :3

Albacore Tataki 5/5 - The albacore was lightly seared and had a hint of truffle. I wasn't expecting too much bc it didn't look ~saucy~ but I was pleasantly surprised. I also loved the arugula under each piece!

Wagyu on Fire 4/5 - Kamu can def do surf and turf. We devoured this plate so fast.

Fried calamari 3.5/5 - Thank you chef for this palate cleanse!! Ate and left no crumbs.

Chowder roll 5/5 - Chowder + sushi.. Who woulda thought. I like chowder and I like sushi so why not. It was bomb.

Volcano roll 5/5 - Usually I'm not a fan of fried rolls, but this was actually delicious. The snow crab on top was also chefs kiss. Ty for the rec Helen :)

Toro nigiri 6/5 - Our stomachs were at 97% at this point. Cheuk said have some more. This was the best way to end our meal omg I'm still thinking about this toro.

Matcha creme brûlée 5/5 - Yk its a good brûlée when you fail to break the sugar top twice. Swear I wanted to lick the bowl. At this point we already decided on a date to come back.

Family and I decided to give this place a try since they had good reviews.

Unfortunately I'd have to give this place 2 stars. 1/2 our party did not get our meals, we had to remind the waitress 3x of our orders. We also had to remind them we requested wasabi and ginger multiple times.

Everyone in our party said their food was "okay". So I'll give them a couple stars for that. Otherwise, we will not be coming back here.

Hopefully your experience will be better than ours.

Kamu Sushi is a small restaurant, but nice option of sushi located in Grand Avenue. There's a paid parking lot next to the shop also so it is convenient. Kamu has been located here for about a decade now and in my most recent experience I thought it was pretty solid. Cozy ambiance and the service was good plus it's not usually that busy on the weekdays.

I got to try their Hamachi Belly and that was very fresh and melted in your mouth. Only downside is that it is pretty small, but the quality was still impressive.

The Rainbow Roll ($15) was the only item that I felt could've been a little better because the imitation crab as the filling tasted a little bland, but the sashimi such as the salmon, tuna, and the hamachi that you find standard in a rainbow did the heavy lifting.

What surprised me though was how good their fried items were though. My table ordered the Tonkatsu ($15) and Pearl Tempura ($11). The Tonkatsu with pork wasn't the biggest portion and you would think pigs were an endangered species with the amount that is served, but wow that was arguably the tastiest pork tonkatsu I've had in a while. Most places the pork tends to be on the dryer side, but the pork here was so moist and tender while also having the crispiest fried batter on the outside. It was very well done and the Tempura was just as good. It was interesting how they also used taro as tempura also.

I thought Kamu was a pretty good experience overall. I would say it is probably the best sushi option that you can get in downtown South SF. The portions aren't the biggest, but its a comfortable environment and the service is good. You can tell they care about the quality of each ingredient especially for their sushi.

This is my first visit here. I would recommend giving this place a try. The chicken was cooked well. The sushi was okay but fair. The service is friendly and it sounds like it is family owned. The ambiance is a compact interior and neat.

My friend took me to this hidden gem and at first we had beat the crowd. The sushi was absolutely amazing and fresh! We ended up ordering additional food because the sushi was that good! It melted in our mouths. Literally the best sushi I've had in a while. I would definitely recommend coming here if you want fresh quality sushi and speedy service for an affordable price.

The sushi here was very good and very enjoyable! The service was very nice as I was greeted by the amazing staff, as well as them staying on task and being fast. The aesthetic inside is very nice as well as it was cozy and comfy. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes sushi. The sushi was well cooked, well made, and overall delicious. I wish I could come here again, my experience was truly wonderful. The staff made me feel so welcomed, especially the waitress Helen. She was very friendly to me and my family.

Dropped by in a Thursday night. We didn't realize how small the restaurant was, but luckily we got one of the last tables. There was maybe enough room for 6 parties of 2-4 people. The seating felt a bit cramped, but we stuck it out. Our waitress was nice and quick. She informed us getting our food would be slow though. It was a true statement, so don't come here if you're in a rush.

Anyway, we tried the garlic edamame, crunchy blossom, dynamite and chowder rolls. Everything was good. Fresh and light. I enjoyed all of it, but the rolls here are SMALL. I could probably finish 2, maybe even 3 full rolls here whereas I normally feel satisfied after 1 roll elsewhere. That's really my only complaint. Overall, still pretty good.

I made dinner reservations on Valentine's Day with my husband at this restaurant. When we got to the restaurant at 7, there were barely two tables for us and another party of 2. Since we arrived before the other couple did, the server gave us a table spot while the other couple sat at the bar.

The restaurant itself is super small. I think there might've been about 8-10ish tables with a combination of tables for 2 and 4 people. Then there was a small bar that could probably fit around 7 people.

When my husband and I were seated, we had nothing on our table. It took the server about 5 minutes for him to give us the menu. Then it took about another 10 minutes to order the food. It took them about 20 minutes for them to give us chopsticks, plate, and a napkin. We had to ask for soy sauce because we noticed that our table didn't have any while all other tables had soy sauce. We decided to order 4 items to share between the two of us. It literally took the cooks 10-15 minutes for each item to come out one at a time in the following order of the items below.

Tonkatsu (3/5) - Super dry meat. Literally just a tiny piece of tonkatsu with a small bowl of rice. They forgot to give us our tonkatsu sauce, which I had to ask for. This isn't worth the price.

Rainbow Roll (3.5/5) - At least with this roll, they were a bit more generous with the serving size.

Chu Toro Tartar (4/5) - I've never had toro tartar before, so I was very interested in trying this dish. It was good.

Spider Roll (3/5) - This has got to be the most stingiest spider roll that I've ever had in my life. Whenever I order spider rolls at other sushi places, they would always give us a generous amount of the crab and including the ends/legs of the soft shell crab. This place had the audacity to only give us tiny pieces of the crab. This roll is a hard pass, do not ever order this!

Since each item took forever to come out, we decided not to order more food even though we were still hungry from finishing the small portion sizes. It took us over an hour just to finish eating 4 items and another 20+ minutes to try to get the server to give us our bill. Our server completely forgot about us and was busy attending all other tables except for the tables near the front of the restaurant, which included us. We ended up leaving enough cash + tip before getting the bill. They honestly didn't deserve the tip.

      Service (0/5):
The restaurant is super small, yet they were super understaffed. They were two servers working that night and it was super hard to get their attention. You would think that they would remember to have the basic necessities ready for customers, such as soy sauce, sauce that goes with the dish that was ordered, plates and utensils, but nope. We literally spent most of our dining experience WAITING for every single thing. The service was terrible.

      Food (3/5):
Based on the 4 items that we ordered, I thought that the food was pretty mediocre compared to other sushi places that I've been too. They were so stingy with the serving sizes. The tonkatsu was dry; adding some sliced cabbage would've been a nice touch. You're better off getting sushi at some other place that won't overcharge you for the portion sizes.

THIS PLACE IS A RIPOFF AND THE SERVICE IS BAD! DO NOT EAT THERE! GET SUSHI ELSEWHERE!

My boyfriend and I decided to try out Kamu Sushi for dinner. There wasn't any parking on the main street, so we went around the block and we were able to find a spot right around the corner. I had made a reservation prior to coming, but the place wasn't even busy when we got there. The restaurant is pretty small inside.

We were seated right away since there was no wait. Our hostess handed us the menus and water as we sat down. Here's what we got to share:

      1. Spicy scallop roll
      2. Dynamite roll
      3. Tempura roll
      4. Crunchy blossom

The rolls were all okay; nothing really stood out to me. Just like the restaurant, the rolls themselves were on the small end of the spectrum. The spicy scallop roll wasn't that spicy with very little scallop. The dynamite and crunchy blossom roll were mildly spicy as advertised. The tempura roll was so tiny I feel like there was any tempura in it. Overall, our time there was okay. The sushi wasn't bad but not amazing. The service was okay too; after all the rolls came we never heard from the hostess again until we paid. It was mediocre at best; we probably won't be coming back.

The restaurant was quite small. Portions were comparatively small, based on other sushi restaurants that I've been to. However, even so, the price was fair. Service was pretty good. Honestly, I have no complaints.

My thoughts on what I ordered: The U Know Me was a little over the place. The Red Lips was meh. The Hamachi Tartar was good, the chips were unique and the paste in the center was good, and the highlight of my dinner was the Chef Omaske Roll.
