This place is a total hole in the wall, but the sushi is super fresh and flavorful, considering the price. This is the best cheap sushi I've ever had (not that I'm a connoisseur of cheap sushi or anything). I'd make sure to stick with the salmon and avoid the standard tuna, which I found to be a bit too fatty.

As mentioned in previous reviews, they get the texture of the rice just right. $10 will make you satiated - $20 will make you bloated.

This place is going downhill fast. The rice used to make my sushi was definitely not fresh. It was hard, crumbly and very sour. I ended up only eating the fish and not the rice.

There are a few seats for dining in, however it's cramped and dirty. The counters were cluttered. There is a huge garbage can in the makeshift dinning area. It felt unsanitary.

I haven't been to this location in a long time. I don't think I will come back here.

      Cash only.

Ugggghh it pains me to write this but their rolls have gotten pretty gross. They don't taste even remotely fresh.

Somehow their nigiri and sashimi is still decent (but of course on the lower end of sushi quality in Vancouver) based on their price point to portion size.

No frills. Still cash or debit. Service is abrupt and quick.

The amount of sushi you get for the price is insane. $15 can definitely feed 2-3.

However there's definitely a dip in quality. Even though everything is delicoous, it all tastes pretty much the same with no outstanding flavors. Heavy on rice and Mayo imitation crab. Definitely got a bit sick of eating it after a while due to the plain flavor.

Great value, would come again for the occasional low quality sushi craving.

One line review: Still great value for sushi and sashimi.

This is one of our regular haunts and for good reason. The value is outstanding, and the fish is plentiful and fresh. Don't get your hopes up for a highly aesthetic experience; the attraction here is the portion and value for decent food.

      We had:

      - Mixed combo A (2 tuna nigiri, 2 salmon nigiri, 2 shrimp nigiri, and a spicy tuna roll -- trust me, that is a LOT of food. Don't be shy about leaving behind some of the rice, as I usually do.)
      - Vegetable sushi combo (three rolls -- cucumber, avocado, yam tempura)
      - Futomaki

Everything was good, and there was plenty of it.

At current prices, that was a hair under $30. We are until we were full and have enough left for lunch the next day. REMEMBER: No credit or debit cards; cash only.

      Parking is free nearby.

Bottom line: Still the king of econo-sushi, as far as I'm concerned.

This used to be the IT sushi place way back when (I.e. 10 years ago), infamous for serving up rolls larger than an average fist! In short, this has always been the place where quantity outweighs quality. I haven't been here for quite a few years, especially with so many options popping up on a day-by-day basis in Vancouver's highly competitive & demanding market for sushi.

I ordered dinner from Samurai as a last minute decision after work, mainly to cure a carb craving, and to pass out right after a satisfying meal, expectations remain low. I'm happy that the rolls ordered is not predominantly rice. Both tama-unagi roll & dynamite roll tasted good, I was disappointed that the shrimp tempura in the dynamite roll stopped after piece #2 from the tail with the balance of the roll just batter (see picture).

The usual chatty lady with the short bob that takes all orders was absent today, the shop is operating with a smaller crew. I do recall them taking some form of card payment in the past (it's been a while), that is no longer the case, currently accepting cash only. I assume I'd come back again far into the future, though this hasn't and won't be my go to for prime sushi.

Samurai, known for its huge rolls and portions, has unfortunately raised its prices over the summer. It is still affordable when compared to other places since most restaurants have also increased their prices.

Parking is available with street parking right outside. It is across from Oakridge Mall and the station, so it is also easy to get to if you are taking transit.

The food is good and filling. If you go during off peak period, they are quick fast to prepare your food. I like the house roll as it has a bit of everything and is insanely big.

Not the fanciest place or fanciest sushi, but it's nearby so we tend to order take out from here occasionally. One thing that i really dislike is that they never know how much my bill will be when i ask at the end of the phone call. They will literally say they dont know. Anyways my husband usually pays so i never had the chance to take a look at their receipt but honest to god I dont understand their receipt at all.
Bottom line is: they're fast and have minimal wait times. Its a good portion for the price but dont expect anything more.

A super cheap sushi house, so you cannot expect a high quality dining experience, but their sashimi are thick and the portions are large-- which are qualities you are looking for in cheap eats.

My to go spot for a clean dinner that is affordable!

The saba battera is disappointing though, especially if you unconsciously compare to higher tier places like Green leaf or Miku.

Used to go here all the time when I attended Langara. As a starving student, Samurai was a god send. I'm a big guy and one roll could easily fill me up. The place is tiny and there isn't much to say about the decor. Two tables for two and a sushi-bar table that can probably seat 5-6 people. Very important to know that it is cash only.

Regarding the actual sushi. I tend to stick the rolls pictured below, or sometimes the Alaska Roll or Dynamite. I have no complaints about the sushi. The price and size make it worth it. Don't come here expecting quality ingredients though. The raw fish can sometimes smell slightly less than fresh.
