This is your average local sushi place to go. Nothing fancy, just good sushi and Japanese food. Surprisingly, their nabeyaki udon has been my go to food when I needed a warm soup. It's also nice that they have free parking.

Good hole in the wall mom and pop kind of place. The service was great. She was friendly and explained things on the menu. Miso soup was an instant basic kind. Rolls were really tasty. Beer on tap was good. Would return.

We've given up on Kana as a sushi restaurant but they make the best teriyaki!
Unfortunately, the sushi rolls are never rolled tightly enough and fall apart as soon as you try to pick up a bite.
We've given them a number of chances hoping it was just an off night and they were training someone, but after giving them many chances over the past few months, it's not getting any better. The rolls are still poorly put together.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1May 26, 2016Previous reviewIf a friend had not recommended this place we probably would have left soon after being seated. It ended up being a good find for a casual spot to have reasonably priced and good quality sushi.
When we were seated, the first thing I noticed were the old, dingy seat cushions - I had some internal dialogue going on to convince me to sit down. As soon as my husband sat down, he put his arms on a noticeably sticky table. We both looked at each other quizzically - I knew what he was thinking - so I reminded him a friend recommended it.
The service isn't that great (waitress never came back to check on us or clear away empty dishes), but the bottom line is that the sushi is really good - and, for the price - I guess I am willing to overlook the rest of it.
I'm not sure if we'll be dining in again, but I definitely see Kana in my future as a take-out destination. - Rich L.Sunnyvale, CA324456Mar 14, 2024
I consider this a dive bar sushi joint. Skill, taste, quality, etc... is a dive bar style... you're here to get drunk and go home or rather get thick slices of fish and drink enough to not know the difference. Glad I did not get sick after eating here...
Salmon skin hand roll(not even crispy or enticing) scallops (poor texture) ... blah blah blah....Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 13, 2023
3.5/5
Went in hoping for a quick sushi lunch but unfortunately ended up waiting a long time to even place our order. There were only 2 staff on the floor, with one doubling as the main sushi chef. However, the fish quality was the saving grace here, as the nigiri, sashimi, and hamachi lovers roll were very fresh and tasty. We also enjoyed the kaki fry (fried oysters) which was surprisingly tasty! Would probably come back to give this place another chance.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Jul 22, 2023
Okay sushi place. The prices are cheaper than other sushi places, so you get what you paid. This place might be understaffed. There were only one more table in the restaurant, but the food came out pretty slow. The sushi chef also prepared for online orders, and I saw some people were waiting for their pickup orders.

I'm so disappointed.. reviews were good at this place?!
I ordered two rolls, spider roll & 49er roll.
(My order was for pickup/take out)
The sushi has the tinniest pieces of avocado & stuffed with imitation crab, the crab was not tasty either.. it was very overwhelming! The salmon on 49er roll wasn't bad but not fresh either.. it takes me a lot to leave a bad review but this was disappointing $30 and the miso soup was what I enjoyed the most, I had to scoop out some crab meat to enjoy and eat with a lot of ginger slices to tolerate it. If I had something else for lunch I wouldn't have ate as much as I did. Not worth it.
ALL OTHER VIRWS SEEM GREAT & PICTURES LOOK BEAUTIFUL SO I THOUGHT IT WOULD'VE BEEN GREAT! :(Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Paul D.Berkeley, CA20415Jan 26, 2024

Bento box was $24.00 and mediocre. Bugs flying around but the server at least had a smile and was nice.
Not a whole lot else to say.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 16, 2022
Pleasantly surprised.
Definitely don't just be a book by its cover - you may have an underwhelming expectation when you see the place from the outside.
We wanted to try a new quality sushi spot. We were looking for a more wholesome ambience, not so much the light and glitter you would expect in downtown Walnut Creek restaurants.
We enjoyed the food, quality is good and quantity is plentiful.
We had the beef teriyaki bento and the chirashi.
Will be returning in the future to check out the other food they have in the menu.Helpful 4Thanks 2Love this 3Oh no 0 - 102138213Mar 21, 2022
OKAY. YALL. My bf and I were craving sushi and we decided to check out this spot due to the rating and reviews. First impression was literally :| lol. We definitely judged before sitting down and indulged. The interior needs improvements, but we understand especially during times like these. Customer service was awesome.
We took our first bite of each roll and our eyes literally rolled lol. The presentation, quality, sauces, and layers all complimented each other. Wasn't too overwhelming nor was it bland.
It was so hard for us to find a go-to sushi spot in the east bay and this might be the one at the moment. Prices were also reasonable. We were happy with our orders and would love to come back to try out more of their speciality rolls.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Ryry K.Fresno, CA107513Feb 28, 2024
