After seeing my friend try Kazan and reading amazing reviews about this place, I decided to give this place a try. I came here on a Saturday around noon and made a reservation for three without any issues. The restaurant wasn't quite busy just yet, but I'd definitely make a reservation for dinner time.

We tried the agedashi tofu and calamari-both were pretty standard and delicious! It's hard to mess these two up in my opinion. The broth for the agedashi tofu was a nice balance between sweet and savory. Calamari was addicting with every bite.

We ordered three rolls (24th street, salmon three way, and Kazan roll) and the sashimi deluxe. The sushi rolls are the way to go! They were all definitely creative and different from typical rolls you'd find at other sushi places. My favorite was the Kazan and salmon three way: neither one were too saucy or too plain. If I do come back, I think I'd pass on the sashimi deluxe. We honestly ordered too much to begin with, but I felt that the amount of sashimi included was overwhelming in flavors (maybe a good thing if you order the sashimi and a single roll). The salmon belly in particular was tasty in the beginning but had a very strange and fishy aftertaste...

Kazan is an awesome sushi bar everyone should visit! Don't pass up on their rolls. :)

Tasty and fresh sushi set in a dim, intimate atmosphere. Space is small but nice with very friendly service. Weekend visit during early evening for a group of 3 as a walk in. Only a couple other diners and we were sat right away.

Pride (Rainbow) Roll - crab and avocado topped with tuna, salmon, hamachi, green onion. Good balance of fishes with creaminess and sweetness from avocado and crab respectively.
Shishito Fries - tempura battered and fried shishito pepper. Crispy and not oily which made them enjoyable to eat.

Checked this place out last week because I'm always on the hunt for a new great sushi spot, and I'm glad I did! We arrived around 8pm on a Wednesday night, no reservation, and were seated indoors immediately.
We tried: 24th st roll, Kazan roll, Lion King roll, and sexy sexy roll. While they are definitely not the best sushi I've had in the city, the rolls had great flavor, and they are HUGE. Definitely over ordered, haha.
It's nowhere near the best sushi I've had in the city, but I do think it's a solid option for the location, and satisfies the sushi craving. A lot of their appetizers looked and sounded good - I would consider coming back here to try some more of the menu!
Ambiance was also great, music was not too loud, and service was attentive. I've noted some reviews to mention the opposite so perhaps they've taken the feedback.

Don't usually see sashimi bibimbap on the menu, so when I saw it, I had to order it. Bowl of rice, salad, and sashimi with gochujang sauce you can mix in. Uneven cuts of fish, but it was still delicious.

Also liked their Last Samurai roll. Their spicy tuna had the perfect level of spiciness. They weren't kidding when they said it's an XXL roll. Each piece required two bites.

Decent sushi, but slightly overpriced. Might come back just for their sashimi bibimbap though.

Ordered 5 different dishes and all of them were horrible. Seems like this place is buying reviews or something because it was not a 4.5 star experience.

First of all there wasn't enough salt on the chicken dishes. Both the chicken teriyaki and popcorn chicken had a distinct lack of salt. The sauces for the popcorn chicken were off and not what you would normally expect from a Japanese restaurant.

The sashimi was gross, it wasn't bad but clearly was not fresh, likely defrosted.

There were pizza boxes sitting on some barstools (not a good sign from a sushi restaurant)

The menu has a wide range of items, if they had a good head chef the menu would be much smaller with less ingredients so they could execute on their offerings well.

I got a bad vibe when I entered and should have listened to that and left versus getting food there.

Stopped by for an early dinner on the weekend and was seated immediately (party of 2). We got a roll and sashimi deluxe to share. The roll itself was solid and tasted pretty good. Not too much rice either which I appreciated. However, I did feel that they went kind of overboard with the toppings. The veggies were fine but I feel like there was more than necessary. Moving onto the sashimi plate, this was a mixed bag. I would say half of the fish selection was good while the other half was either ok or didn't taste that great. The main pieces like salmon, tuna, and yellowtail tasted good though so I was happy with that at least. Overall, had a good experience though and would definitely just stick to nigiri/sashimi that you're familiar with and enjoy or rolls.

Came here for sushi and ended up getting far more than we expected, as everything on the menu was appealing. All of the food we ordered was made fresh with quality ingredients, so much that we could taste the difference in comparison to other similar places. We loved every single dish we got... the lion king roll, three some roll, new england clam chowder croquette, tonkatsu ramen soup, and tuna and hamachi toro (it was all so good, the leftovers were minimal). We also received quick and attentive service, the one employee taking care of all the tables was super friendly and made us feel welcome. The restaurant was clean and inviting, with simple and charming decor and lighting creating a great ambience for date night... or any night! :)

      GOOD but pricey.

Stumbled upon this little Izakaya/sushi spot while trying to get a drink in the mission area. I had a good experience, but man oh man, this place is a little pricey.

The bluefin tuna sampler was my favorite thing that we ordered. Each cut was super thick, and it came with 8 total pieces beginning with the leaner cut and progressing towards the rich and buttery otoro. UGH so good but damn $48. I thought the third cut of tuna, the chutoro, actually tasted better than the otoro because it wasn't overwhelmingly rich. Still, all very tasty and served with grated wasabi and a wasabi relish.

The mushroom fries and the shishito fries were also very good, nice and crispy and costs $11 and $10, which wasn't terrible.

The spicy salmon kama had a nice kick to it, seared perfectly and still very juicy, not overcooked at all. $16 for kama is pretty standard.

And lastly we ordered a bottle of kikusui sake at $69/bottle and that definitely set our bill higher than expected, but you can't have fried tapas without sake. It's the cherry on top.

Overall, I would definitely come here again, but would be a little more careful on picking the expensive items on the menu. Although I'd say their fish quality is pretty great.

Favorite sushi spot in the Mission for the price to quality value. I love their selection of nigiri and the hot dishes offer some variety from other sushi appetizers. It's my go-to spot for a casual sushi dinner and better for small groups. It's a smaller dining area that's very lively and intimate. The owners are always super friendly and service is quick and helpful.

      What to order:
*Kazan roll - my favorite roll! Best if you like seared hamachi and the sauce is very refreshing and savory. A little on the saltier side but this is what makes it tasty!
*Sake toro hand roll - the BEST hand roll with generous slices of avocado and thick seared salmon belly. It's smoky and rich. I love that you can turn almost any nigiri on the menu into a handroll upon request.

The hot dishes are pretty good but I would skip the mushroom fries as the breading slid off the oyster mushrooms. It was like eating a mozzarella stick without the cheese because it fell out. Tasted good but would've preferred breading and mushroom to stick together.

      10/10.

I went to Kazan for a birthday lunch & it was surprisingly RLY GOOD.

It was EMPTY when we came in on a Thursday around 130pm so we were a bit sus about if we came into a mid restaurant. Naaaaahhhhh
Once the food came out LEMME TELL U, it was so good. I got the lion king roll (my FAVORITE - 10/10), firecracker roll (9/10), threesome roll (8/10). I also got the Chirashi bowl which was pretty good-- really fresh & filling. But i honestly liked the rolls better.

I wouldn't say it's a place for a fancy meal- i think it's more fitting to come in for casual vibes. The lighting was really dark but we got seated near a window so it was okk. Would def recommend & come again.

      Another plus- it's dog friendly!

Decent spot to get Japanese food in the Mission. The restaurant was not busy and the server was able to seat my boyfriend and I promptly. Once we ordered, the food came out swiftly one by one and this was great since we were both famished.

      Highlights:
Beef Teriyaki- the beef was cooked to perfection and was succulent. The oils of the beef coated the rice nicely with each bite I had. The teriyaki sauce was a perfect balance of salty and umami.

Salmon toro nigiri- lightly seared just for the oils to seep out and coat the outer layer of the fish. The ikura was slightly briny which elevated the delicate flavor of the salmon belly. Delicious.

Anago- my boyfriend really enjoyed how fresh the Anago was and it wasn't masked with an abundance of sauce.

Unfortunately the real crab roll fell short which was disappointing since the California roll wasn't too bad. The crab was not fully defrosted, felt cold and lacked flavor depth. The California roll, on the other hand, was great and had the perfect rice to filling ratio. The only thing I would've loved more is if there was a bit more mayo to give it a creamier taste.

The Kazan roll wasn't bad but was hidden underneath a bed of salad. I did like the unique crunch that the carrots within the roll gave and the seared tuna on top was delicious.

Popcorn chicken was not what I was expecting. The outer layer was perfectly crisp but the chicken itself was a bit dry. The spicy sauce was great though but definitely be careful if you can't handle spicy food.

Overall great experience and will be back to try their other options.
