In 2019 it was time to replace our 2003 Trane HVAC units. In early 2019 I contacted Kelly, Ongaro along with Moore Home Services to review our home and to develop a cost proposal for removing the existing HVAC units and for installing a higher efficient furnace and air conditioning unit.
Out of the three contractors, Kelly was the only one that spent more time under the house accessing our situation than up in our kitchen talking to us. The Moore representative did not even venture down in our crawl space. Nonetheless, when Mr. Kelly did come up to the kitchen, he offered his suggestions relative to his assessments as to which Trane models would address our HVAC needs.
Proposals arrived with Ongaro in the $20,000 range, then Kelly at $13,000 range, followed by Moore with a $11,000 range. It was NOT a difficult choose who to go with - Kelly received our favor and our $1000 down payment.
Kelly's proposal had identical HVAC equipment as Ongaro's but what made the difference for us, was Kelly conducted himself with great confidence when he discussed with us our needs.
In June 2019, Eric and Trevor from Kelly Heating and Plumbing arrived, and they immediately instilled the same great confidence in their HVAC abilities as did Mr. Jim Kelly. After four days of crawling in and out of crawl space and many conversations with both Eric and Trevor in figuring out solutions to the job's many challenges, the new Trane Air Conditioner was up and running; just in time as the Marin June heat wave started its assault.
I was so impressed with the work that Eric and Trevor performed, that I gave them each a $100 bill, as my expression of a "Thanks for a great job!"
In closing, if you desire a fair and affordable proposal accompanied with a professionally installed HVAC system, I recommend that you allow Kelly Plumbing and Heating to provide those services to you.
Oh yeah. Anna Kelly is the office manager, and she too is a remarkable professional but you'll never really realize it because she works effortlessly behind the scenes in making the jobs move seamlessly forward.

Ryan Bishop (Service Technician) came to our home to inspect a constant water leaking from a PCV pipe near a window. Ryan found that the main draining PCV pipe was clogged. Long story short, he got the A/C unit in the attic unclogged and operating normal. He was great at explaining everything to me in simple terms. He will be back in four weeks to service our A/C unit and replace the safety pan. I highly recommend Ryan Bishop and Kelly Plumbing & Heating. Great company! Great Professionals!

The Kelly Team was outstanding from start to finish. I had several other proposals but only Kelly suggested putting the outside heat pump units in a more aesthetic and efficient location outside while also putting the air handler in the attic which created more space in the garage where the loud and bulky gas furnace was previously. Even with the extra work, the cost was still less than the other vendors....but most importantly, the installers (led by Mario) were expert craftsmen that put extra care, effort, and pride in everything they did.

I could observe at many steps along the way where they could have cut corners if they wanted to, but they always made extra effort to reinforce everything and make it aesthetically pleasing (air handler looks like an industrial art installation in the attic) while also fixing problems created by others in the past (pipes in bad configurations, etc.). Sealing the ducting is also a critical step and this passed the pressure test inspection quickly. Also, during the 7 days of work, Mario explained anything I asked about.

Kelly is a family run business led by owner Jim Kelly who plans and scopes every project and oversees the process to completion. I can tell that the employees are treated well as I can observe their pride and contentment in their work and some have been with them for 20 years which is a strong sign of the enduring quality of the firm.

After being a first time homeowner for 4 years now, I am finding that larger firms (particularly private equity owned ones or those targeting to be private equity owned) that advertise more and promote fee-based "club" gimmicks along with higher pressure sales tactics to sign quickly, etc. tend to charge more and are more prone to cutting corners, so I will always seek out the smaller, directly managed owner/founder firms like Kelly going forward.

So I waited a year to post this because I wanted to make sure the huge issue was resolved, which it was although it took many months and at least four visits from their service tech Ryan, and multiple calls, emails, and escalation to Trane. I will share my experience. I had received multiple bids on new HVAC (AC and gas furnace) and then came across Jim Kelly who also bid on a Trane Heat pump plus a backup furnace. There was a rebate on the heat pump making it comparable in cost. He was the only person to tell me about the heat pump option, and I am so glad he did because it was the way to go. Overall, Kelly Plumbing was not inexpensive but not the most expensive. They were fair.

This is a top notch system, fully modulating heat pump, variable speed blower and furnace, two zones, and a central Daikin air purifying filter setup that had to be custom adapted to this system. They also did some major duct work revisions. It took five full days. I cannot give enough praise to the crew that installed it: Mario who was lead, Fernando, Diego, and Eric. I also met Ryan at that time as well. I have a lot of experience with different plumbing and HVAC crews over the years over multiple houses and systems. These guys honestly are as good as it gets. Totally professional, on time, neat, high quality work, did not cut any corners. They were just great.

I was truly happy.....Until the yellow error triangle appeared that was the bane of my existence for many months. Now Kelly Plumbing & Heating had already been paid in full, but not once did I ever feel abandoned despite a long process of resolution. Not to bore you, but the error indicator had something to do with faulty outdoor temperature readings at the Heat Pump temperature probe that caused switching back and forth between using the local reading or the temperature from the internet which is more representative of the area. It would be crucial to get an accurate reading outside my house because that would be used to direct the heat pump to heat the house vs using the backup furnace I had installed (you can set a temperature threshold for the crossover). So in order to use the heat pump it was imperative that this be working.

Over several visits Ryan changed the temperature probe, then tried running a direct wire from the relay board to the Heat pump, then tried putting in a new thermostat. Finally it turned out to be a bad relay board, which when replaced actually solved the problem. Ryan and Kelly Plumbing were fully committed to solving this. Trane had been willing to replace the entire heat pump if needed, which would have been crazy because it was a brand new unit. At one point during this whole process Jim Kelly asked me to contact Trane because they were not getting paid anything to make all these follow up service calls, so I agreed to do that and open a case. At no point did Kelly ever shirk their responsibility to provide ongoing service to get this issue resolved.

You know, my life experience which is exemplified here, is that if you deal with the right people and you don't cut corners then things work out. My experience was anticlimactic because I should have been feeling great about the expensive, new HVAC upgrade but instead I was just irked by this brand new install that kept flashing error messages for many months until ultimately they figured out what was wrong and fixed it. At that point it was just sigh of relief not to deal with the annoyance any more, as opposed to actual pleasure focusing on just enjoying the system because it took so long to get resolvEd. I feel that another plumbing company likely would not have been able to solve it or would have given up sooner. Thank you Jim and Ryan for hanging in there in getting us to the finish line.

I would give more stars if they were available. Outstanding service from estimate to completion. Mario and his team showed up promptly every day to install our heat pump system and were very professional and courteous. Thanks to them we'll be comfortable in winter and summer.

Kelly Plumbing and heating installed a new gas furnace and gas air conditioner for me in October 2023. Their knowledge and the quality of their work is excellent and they are a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend them.

I called Kelly Plumbing & Heating after receiving multiple estimates for servicing our HVAC and was fortunate enough to speak with Jim. He is extremely knowledgeable, honest and caring. He spoke with me for an hour (wow!) and educated me about what we really needed to do - nothing of which financially benefited him! He could have sold me various things that other companies said that we needed, but he did not believe those to be necessary. It is so rare to find people like him these days. When we change our HVAC system in the near future, we will undoubtedly go with this company.

Always pleased with the responsiveness and knowledge and patience demonstrated by the Kelly Plumbing & Heating team. Ryan came out quickly as promised and replaced our dead thermostat during the hot spell a few weeks ago. In spite of the clear training Ryan did with us during the installation process, and because we are creatures of habit, once Ryan left, we had a hard time figuring out how to use all the bells and whistles with the new thermostat. Ryan returned (with a smile!) and patiently re-trained us on how to use all the new features so we could make the most of setting times/days/temperatures. We so appreciate the Kelly team as they always deliver excellent service and lasting products--that's why our one and only call for help for new/replacement products is always to Kelly! They are dependable, and always deliver high quality products and services. We so appreciate them for all they do when we need their help!

A few years ago, the 20+ year old furnace in the house we just purchased completely died. It was the middle of the coldest spell Marin had seen in a very long time. It was honestly 40 degrees in my house. Jim and his guys came in and replaced everything with an updated furnace system and we could not be happier. We recently had to call them to deal with an issue (our own fault) and they sent RYAN immediately who, we've come to know and respect for his professionalism, efficiency and great personality.

Fast forward to now and we have the exact opposite issue - it's too hot without air conditioning. We contacted Jim and he sent out his crew to help us out. MARIO (who actually installed our new furnace) ERIC, FERNANDO and DIEGO were professional, respectful, on time, neat and incredibly personable. We now have air conditioning and are ready for the next heat wave.
