TL;DR: These are some of the best in San Francisco. I even hit them up for other types of contractor recommendations. I can't believe the quality of work that they did for me, and am incredibly relieved to have chosen them to do the work. I got a 95% efficient furnace and heated a 1350 sqft 1916 condo at 70 deg F through December for ~$150 total with no added insulation. I am amazed!

These guys are exceptional! I had been putting off installing forced air heating for a few years because every time the top 3 companies came to give quotes, they acted like it wasn't a big deal and gave me boilerplate responses. I had an uneasy feeling about their plans and didn't trust them. A coworker brought up Kevel and I decided to give them a try.

The initial walkthrough took 3x longer than the other companies. This is because they are extremely thorough. They figured out different ways to accommodate our building and did some rough planning to make sure it would all work out. We discussed needs and locations. They didn't feel hurried at all and were very interested in the quality of their work.

They're familiar with modern technology, so when there were questions about unexpected things in the building (100 year old building with strange history), they were quick to contact and text me pictures to get my opinion.

They did a full Infrared leak detection for me as well and pointed out areas of the house that were leaking cold air which would end up costing me extra for no reason, and sent that along with detailed photos in a PDF for my future reference.

I'd trust these guys to do anything for me. They are intelligent, polite, professional, and are always trying to do the right thing for everyone involved. I couldn't be a happier customer. I only wish they did more than HVAC stuff!

Could not have had a better experience. Huge thanks and appreciation is deserved. They emailed us each night to check in with the progress of their work. We had an absolutely amazing experience with Kevel, from beginning to end. They gave us a home energy audit, and we moved forward with a project incorporating some modifications to our system. I give them my highest recommendation!

1) Every person we interfaced with was professional, and helpful, and just nice.
2) Project was timely, and everything worked out as expected and promised.

The only minor drawback is that they are good at what they do, and popular, so there was a bit of time waiting to initially get our project in their queue. HVAC projects are also somewhat variable -- it's contract work and they are prone to weather changes, etc. so we understood, and the communication was excellent.

We recently moved to our new home and had to replace a super old antique furnace. We hired Kevel to completely redo all our ducting and install a new high efficiency furnace.

Brian, Jeff, and Eric are a fantastic team! They installed the furnace, installed all the ducts, put in a brand new smart thermostat, sealed our registers, and adjusted all of the air flow for each room of our house. They also took care to seal some old asbestos tape that we had inside our very old floor registers, ensuring that our new system was safe to use. On top of that, they took care of all the work needed to get us a nice California Energy Upgrade rebate for our new system. They finished all of this in under one week!

Not only does our house finally have heating again, but we feel a huge improvement in air quality in our home now! Thank you guys so much!

This past fall we moved into a victorian flat on a busy street... We had no idea how loud it could be on a daily basis!

We just had Indow Windows installed in our condo by Kevel Home Performance this week. We live on a very busy street in San Francisco and it has drastically reduced the road noise at least by 50%. We still hear some noise but it sounds much farther away than right outside our window. I finally get to sleep without being woken up in the middle of the night...!

Thank you John & Brian for being so professional and responsive throughout the whole process. Indow Windows has improved our quality of life at home several fold. We would recommend Kevel Home Performance to anyone who has 'traffic noise' in San Francisco. The inserts are substantially cheaper than wood frame double-paned windows and related construction costs.

Honest, hard working, flexible! The Kevel team came to our rescue when we needed to get our heating system replaced due to a medical issue. They understand allergies and health, and build that into the solution. Plus heating efficiencies. I asked a lot of them, and they delivered. I also checked three references before hiring them, and each one was outstanding. Hard to find contractors like this in SF!

All the 5-star reviews are right. Jeff, Brian and John are amazing. They are incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, prompt, detail-oriented and professional.

We had sky-high energy bills, and parts of the house were colder than others. From the very first phone call with Brian, I was impressed by Kevel. Brian asked very detailed questions, ranging from the temperature in different parts of the house to the humidity levels to the type of HVAC and kitchen ventilation systems we had. From that 45-minute call alone, he already gave preliminary, cost-free recommendations we could implement to help our situation.

I scheduled the energy audit, and Brian and Jeff came over exactly on time and spent the day meticulously measuring and inspecting every aspect of our house. When they were finished, they gave me a quick overview of what they'd found, including some more pointers for ways I could drastically increase energy efficiency in our house at no cost (they also gave me a quick tutorial on my air filter/HVAC system, which I hadn't fully understood).

A few days later, they emailed me a detailed report of their energy audit findings, and a list of proposed solutions. I had known from the get-go that I was going to hire Kevel to upgrade our home, so I was happy to see what they had pinpointed. Brian set up another call to go through their report, and we agreed to have them start work.

The work on the house took a week. Jeff and John were both extremely smart, hard-working, and trustworthy. They even helped us fix our Nest thermostat (which hadn't been getting enough electricity from the existing wiring) and install the Nest smoke detectors we'd bought but hadn't gotten around to putting up.

When they finished the project, they ran more tests, making sure to balance the air flow to parts of the house that needed it more. They did another energy audit test, too, and the house passed with flying colors.

We noticed a difference in our comfort levels and energy bills immediately. Jeff followed up several times to make sure everything was working well. He also wrote up a detailed Improvement Summary.

Kevel also took care of all the rebate paperwork that we were eligible for due to the energy upgrades. Jeff even checked up with the agency to make sure our rebate was being processed swiftly.

I couldn't imagine a better experience than working with these guys. I will definitely be calling upon them again if we move, and I highly recommend them to anyone who is interested in making their home more energy efficient and eco-friendly.

Brian, Jeff and the crew are the best. Super customer service and results to match. Whole house assessment was recommended and completed on my home in San Jose. My home was so much more comfortable and my PG&E bills were reduced to match. These guys are detail oriented and their customer service skills are the best of any contractor that has worked on my home. I recently sold my home and one of the selling points was their energy efficient upgrade. Brian took the time and effort to find an efficient replacement furnace that was limited to a specific space in a hallway closet. They will walk you through the whole process from beginning to end including rebates with minimal effort on your part. Will use them again at my new house.


This work was completed over 2 years ago. I have had that time to enjoy the comfort and low energy bills. House guests have remarked on how cool my house was during the summer. One contractor, who was doing 2 days of electrical work couldn't believe how cool my house was without using the air conditioner. He couldn't wait to get home and tell his wife.

You are not going to find a better, more meticulous and professional team than Jeff and the gang at Kevel.

We had bad energy leakage and balance issues in our house which led to huge energy bills in the winter.

Right from the beginning, Jeff and Brian were communicative and thorough, first doing a full audit of the home to determine where the improvements could be made effectively, and then presenting a very well put together proposal with different price points for us to consider. The information given covers every aspect you'd want to know about, from estimated energy savings, to safety issues (in our case we had some asbestos removal), to recommended courses of action for maximum rebates from the government.

They were also very open and responsive to the few significant concerns we had along the way. We were concerned about a few details in the asbestos removal portion of the project. Jeff did an excellent job listening to our concerns and acting to change the proposal in a way that really made us feel better about it.

Pricing also I thought was very fair.

And, the results in the end speak for themselves. Our energy bill plummeted compared to the same time period in previous years, and we can feel the difference in warmth in our 2 year old's room. That was keeping us up at night (not to mention the $300+ energy bills to compensate for it), and we are literally sleeping better at night thanks to these guys.

Kevel performed an energy audit and then installed a new HVAC system at our home, including sealing the ducts, and making our old house much more comfortable with stable temperatures. Before their work, in the winter the inside temperatures would drop as soon as the heater turned off. Now we don't have the temperature swings. Also, as others have said their service is also top notch. They clearly explained everything along the way. We casually mentioned we were interested in registers and grilles that matched our late 1930's home and they sourced the perfect products. We've had a few questions after the installation and they were super attentive in their response. I cannot recommend Kevel more highly.

I was such a skeptic but the guys at Kevel took extra time to walk me through the findings of our house evaluation and their recommendations. We had a super drafty house with colder rooms (one room being our nursery) and a relic of a furnace! Not to mention the on-going bickering between my husband and I over how hot or cold it was in the house! After Jeff finished the work, we immediately felt the difference in the draftiness of the house and when the heater runs, it warms all the rooms evenly which feels great. A few years ago we changed all the windows in our house thinking it would solve the problem - I totally wish we called these guys first!

Definitely worth the investment and they were a joy to work with. The only time I've ever had work done to my house where the cost didn't change from the original quote and they finished on time!
