This review is mostly for the playground. I used to live a block away when I was a kid, in 1992-1995. So I had been to the sparse playground with splintery wood structures many times and I used to practice my tennis serve against the bathroom wall when I joined the tennis team my freshman year of high school. I had not been here since, until a few weeks ago when I took my 3 yr old and he was in heaven!

First of all the playground is HUGE although you can't even see if from the street. You can enter from Clay & Laguna to be closest to it. In the middle is a giant man made mountain with long metal tube slides, rocky areas to climb and play, a rope bridge, giant poles to slide down and a large rubbery hill that my son loves climbing straight up!

Next to that is a very large yellow metal structure, for older kids, with some slides, climbing areas, and monkey bars. There's a small "merry-go-round" with ropes to climb on while your mom spins you. There's a small toddler structure with a slide and climbing areas.

But the very best part, and what sets it apart from most parks in the city is the water play area. There's a beautiful river rock lined trough, that is filled by hand with different pumps and spinning handles! While it says to play from the side, everyone seems to jump right in and run around until they fall and get soaked and bonk their heads. I watched 2 kids do this before my own son did. Loads of fun!

They added some landscaping to the hill. For those of you who are new to this park, you can enter from any corner. It runs along Sacramento St/ Laguna St/ Washington St/ Gough St. But unless you live across the street, you will have to walk up at least one GIANT hill to access the park.

it's interestingly warm up here too. You'd like a park on top of a SF hill would be cold & windy, but it's actually quite sheltered and comfortable here. There is a bit of a view of the city when you look south but nothing like the view from Alta Plaza a few blocks away. However when you look north there is a gorgeous view of the bay down Octavia St. and an interesting view of downtown, down Clay looking east.

There are also several picnic tables & benches around the middle of the park, tennis courts, renovated bathrooms, and pretty flowers and plants throughout the park. It's gorgeous and I really love seeing the improvements over when I lived here growing up!

Parrots, jays, happy dogs and smiling people. Large green park with beautiful landscaping, hilly with paved paths. You can hear the parrots squawking as they bed down around 6pm.
      Windy too, dress in layers.

Beautiful park. We brought a dog and so do 75% of park users here bring their pooch to run around.
At the top there are some benches where one can see parts of SF and the beautiful houses.
It's full of people and I general people seem to be good with their pets.

      30 check-ins

Lafayette Park has it all: tennis courts, play structure, dog park, central location, bathrooms, open space, and city views. It's in a very nice neighborhood, Danielle Steel's mansion is across the street on Washington.

This park is very similar to Alta Plaza Park but I think it might be a little bigger. I like it to come and sit on a lawn and read. It's close to Fillmore on the west end so easy to get lunch and take it to the park and Whole Foods is close on the east end on California and Franklin. It's definitely a neighborhood park and lots of people flock especially on nice days to hang out on the grass.

Fun dog park to let your pup run off some steam. I enjoy the downhill slope! Helps me burn my pup's energy while passively helping him build some muscle. Easy on street parking and a variety of dogs.

The field is Astro turf with litter bags and bins for pet waste.

In the bustling mixed-use neighborhood of Pacific Heights, Lafayette Park covers a good 4 block's worth of land to create a green space for the locals. Popular with walkers, joggers, and dogs, the park's location at the top of a hill affords visitors a few casual views of the bay, and features walking paths, plenty of places to sit, and some mature trees for shade.

Well-maintained for an urban park, Lafayette is not as widely used as other sprawling grassy areas in other parts of the City. Still for reference, there's a Whole Foods just a couple blocks away, so riff raff is at a minimum, and the only scrunchy faces a visitor must endure are more likely connected to a French bulldog than a transient spun out on skante and a $2 bottle of Kentucky Dale blended whiskey.

Hanged out at Lafayette park today. Lots of fun interactive games for the kids to play in. Lots of benches and seats to sit on and the atmosphere is pretty nice. Down the street you can see the bay and ocean, other views are of Sutro tower and one of the famous mansions. Parking might be hard but if you circle around, you'll eventually find something (parking is always hard in SF).

View of sutra tower from the park. In between rain storms.
Taking a walk up the hill. The side is blocked because a tree fell down after the big storm. Probably water logged as well.

I am reviewing only the fenced in dog play area. It's a nice park, however, some folks inside the dog fence areas are a bit too busy with their phones and not paying attention and picking up their dog's bizness, so if you wander toward the edge of the fenced in area, you can see some amber scattered about. For this reason, I don't always bring my little one here anymore.

So stinking cute! They have plenty of grassy area and benches (no tables) for picnics, enjoying the outdoors, and catching up with friends. There is a playground for kids and a dog area at the very top.

The best part is there are public restrooms that are kept in clean and operation conditions which is perfect for those that want to stay a little longer and enjoy the park or parents with little ones.

Beautiful, big park with a wonderful children's playground. Lots of grass, many areas for sun or shade. The perfect picnic park. The playground has soft padding underfoot. Plenty of swings to accommodate both infants and older children. & many interesting play features. Access to public restroom available.
